I don't know how to express how useless that is without breaking the rules.look at those numbers. when you take out the outliners, what do you see? 480 = 980. GG no re

LOL why would you take out the outliers? Oh, and also, why...... Are they outliers? Why isnt the outlier Hitman? Just curious.

Thread title says July 7 which is what everyone was expecting.
Geforce GTX 1060 Thread: July 19 Launch (NDA July 7) - faster than RX 480, 120W, $249

NDA for specs, July 7th.

NDA for benchmarks July 19th.

I recall AMD did the same roll out for RX 480. We got official specs bout a week before review. Hell they did it with GTX 1080 and GTX 1070.

Why isn't Hitman the outlier?

Why isn't DX12 an outlier? It seems some reviewers are treating DX titles as afterthoughts these days...

No wonder I didn't see any more discussion on this since they didn't actually release anything today.

I guess it's more of the same, hurry up and wait. $249 seems to compete with the 480 and custom versions will cost the same for the 480 as well as the 1060. Unless of course it doesn't come out for sale at that price and comes in at $299.

I do miss the day when I bought my 660. The reviews hit and I bought one the same day. If this card is like the last two, by the time they hit, you won't be able to find one anyone, they will be overpriced, and many buyers will settle for the dropped-in-price 980, or an AMD card.

If that leak pcper reported on http://www.pcper.com/reviews/Graphics-Cards/NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-1060-Preview-Pascal-GP106

Is correct, I think 1060 will be on par with rx480 in terms of performance. 980 looks faster than both by a similar margin.. with AMD already testing a driver which would close the gap.

980 is 6.4% faster than 1060 and 9% faster than rx480.. with this new driver giving AMD another 3% perf. So it should be pretty interesting, I expect them to trade the blows, with rx480 gaining in the future with more DX12 titles slated to come out.

Hmm nice,

from the pcper GTX 1060

From a forum user (Greece) RX 480 Sapphire

RX 480 Sapphire stock clocks

1300MHz core, 2200MHz memory, undervolted to 1.1V. Have a look at the Graphics Score.

Ugh... Thank you AnandThenMan.

I was just telling you the actual NDA lift date, not the announcement date.

1060FE 6GB to be $299usd.

AIB 6GB versions to be $249usd.

Add per Hilbert, pricing sure puts a downer on things.

I hope it will beat reference 980ti. Also, would be nice if it showed nice OC scaling, not like other Pascal GPUs

Some updates from NVIDIA:

- GTX 980-level performance, twice the energy efficiency in VR
- Average 15% faster and 75% more efficient than closest competitor
- GP106 GPU, 120W, $249 MSRP ($299 special limited Founder's Edition)
- 1,280 CUDA cores, 6GB of GDDR5 at 8Gbps, and a boost clock of 1.7GHz
- Founder's Edition can be easily overclocked to 2GHz with single 6-pin power
- Founder's Edition will be available at nvidia.com, custom boards from ASUS, Colorful, EVGA, Gainward, Galaxy, Gigabyte, Innovision 3D, MSI, Palit, PNY and Zotac on sale July 19th
- Reviews July 19th at 14:00 BST / 15:00 CET

GP106 is definitely not half GP104:

If you were wondering how GTX 1060 looks under the hood, look no further. It is now confirmed that GTX 1060 utilizes Pascal GP106 GPU, which is definitely smaller than GP104. What’s interesting here is lack of two memory modules on the board. It looks like there is enough space for 10 modules, meanwhile only 6 are installed on the board (6GB). Does it mean GP106 board supports up to 8GB frame buffer? Maybe the same board will be used for Quadro variants?

Maybe a 256-bit 8GB Geforce GTX 1060 Ti is in the cards? Also saw this:

1280 CUDA cores, 106 TMUs, 48 ROPs.

AIBs are already announcing their custom boards (including custom PCB).

- Gainward

The difference is Gainward GTX1060 gale use 4 + 1 phase power supply, Gainward GTX1060 Herd with 3 + 1 phase power supply.

http://vga.zol.com.cn/592/5924639.html

- Galax

http://vga.zol.com.cn/592/5924650.html

- Inno3D

Inno3D goes directly to clock information the way a little bit upwards. So the models GeForce GTX 1060 Gaming OC X2 and GeForce GTX 1060 iCHILL X3 work with a boost clock of 1,784 MHz (+76 MHz), the GDDR5 memory is on effective 8.2 GHz overclocked (Reference 8 GHz).

- MSI

www.tomshardware.com/news/nvidia-geforce-gtx-1060-launch,32214.html

- Gigabyte

The GTX 1060 G1 GAMING is forged with the top-notch GPU cores through GIGABYTE’s very own GPU Gauntlet Sorting technology, pushing overclocking capability to the limit without compromising the system reliability. Stepping up from the reference’s 3+1 power phases, the 6+1 phase design on the GTX 1060 G1 GAMING makes the MOSFET working at a lower temperature to provide more stable voltage output for superior overclocking.

I like that they are releasing aib on the same date. Now I just want to know how well it performs against an 8gb 480 and what that means for me if I upgrade.

Personally I believe the AIB models will be up to $299 as well. That's about $320+ with tax vs the only $399 1070 on newegg that's never in stock lol.

Pricing doesn't look good. I was expecting a more aggressive pricing approach against the rx480. So far it looks like a 390 vs 970 all over again, but this time at a lower performance point.
Edit:
I hope it will beat reference 980ti. Also, would be nice if it showed nice OC scaling, not like other Pascal GPUs
Just wow!!!
Are you serious?

There's two GP106 GPUs. Thanks to topway @ Chiphell:

GP106- 400 -A1 DDR5 6G
GP106- 300 -A1 DDR5 3G

Considering NVIDIA only announced a Geforce GTX 1060 6GB, is that 3GB SKU a cheaper Geforce GTX 1060 or another VGA (Radeon RX 470 competitor)?

Many die shots here:

www.chiphell.com/thread-1614307-1-1.html

Can anyone estimate the die size?

Except that's not PCPer, it's from a leak days ago.

If performance is a bit better than a 480 I wouldn't expect nvidia to release it at a lower price.

What reason is there for AIB's or even retailers to sell their cards at the MSRP (Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price) when they know there is another card out there selling for the founders edition price. That's leaving money on the table, and these aren't your friends, they're businesses, both the retailers and Card Partners. If stocks are low I too expect the 3rd party cards to start at $299. I'd love to be wrong but I doubt I will be.

This dual pricing has really done a wallop on the public perception. Kudos to nVidia succesfully FE'ing the public.

There is not that much room between 980 and stock reference 980ti. Then it could be a worthwile upgrade for everyone with 970 and less.

What reason is there for AIB's or even retailers to sell their cards at the MSRP (Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price).

If manufacturer doesn't sell their products at Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price, than why would any 3rd party sell cards cheaper?

Who thinks when these release they will actually be $249? I bet they will stay at FE prices since demand will be quite high at first. Seeing how AIB models come out the same time as the FE, don't expect AIB to start at $249.

Once prices and supply settle to what they are supposed to be, and we have good AIB selection, this is gonna be a great time for the mainstream 1080p gaming market.

$200 RX 480 4GB
$250 GTX 1060 6GB
(The $240 RX 480 8GB will be left in an awkward spot once prices settle)

290X/780Ti performance for $200. 980/390X performance for $250. Definitely not game over for the 480, since a $50 price increase is not insignificant to those with a tight budget especially when it's a 25% increase. Both cards seem very viable at these two price points, although historically neither are impressive and both look to lag behind the 1070 by quite a lot leaving room for another card.

IMO, I think the RX 480 8GB will actually do fairly well even at its price due to the volume of ignorant buyers who pick cards thinking "More GB = Better Card." Now, I don't think it will do better than the 1060, because the xx60 brand is very strong.

FE = overpriced product. I'm sure that every forum poster knows this. It's a lie(let's call it marketing) meant to rip off the uninformed nvidia customer base and taking a big ... on what MSRP means. AIB's could not care about this since there's a probability that they knew about this tactic in advance. They will just increase the price. It's a win-win and the less informed customer gets ripped off.

I followed the same thought process. VRAM is important to the casual buyers, but I think brand name has a bigger impact.
