Ok, now everyone ask yourselves, no matter what side of the fence you sit on or balance on top. Do you really care how many 1080s Nvidia sells or doesn't sell?
Why is this a subject for debate, and why is this cared about? I can understand friendly observance and commentary on how well or poorly a product sells, but some of these posts are really heated and filled with animosity.
So come clean folks.
I don't personally care if 1080 out sells or undersells other products. But I'm super curious why others are. Shed some light.

I don't care one bit It says something if such a pricey card sells so well of course, I'm not quite sure what.

I've mostly only been posting to point out some sane/obvious things.

Nvidia Does Not Have Any 16nm FinFET Yield Issues – Demand Overwhelming Supply On The High End $699 Price Point

So the question that needed answering was whether Nvidia was having supply issues (or more accurately, was it suffering from bad yields of 16nm FinFET from TSMC)?

The answer to that question is no. TSMC does not have any yield issues pertaining to the 16nm FinFET node and Nvidia does not have any supply issues either. Fudzilla’s sources have also seemingly confirmed our own. The rumor about ASUS was also redacted by the retailer and the company spokesman has confirmed to us that there is no known issue with GTX 1080 supply from Nvidia currently (meaning the 1080 STRIX is still under production!). That said however, the company has been experiencing demand way above what it was expecting in its high end lineup, which is why, due to simple supply and demand, the prices have been going up.

In your endless spamming of this forum with commercials you might want to take the entire piece of crap from wccftech and not just 80%. Its selective manipulative quoting.

Perhaps turn down bold in your headline and instead mention source?

Did it slip your attention? Was it an error?

This is what you left out:

"In business this “lag” (oh the irony) between unexpected levels of demand being met with supply is something that is completely natural.*Due to the fact that the GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 represent a structural break in the GPU performance trend line,*the interest of gamers in what is usually considered the high end (the $699 price point) was overwhelmingly more than they had been counting on.*It is also possible, and be advised this is purely some educated guesswork on my part, that Nvidia accelerated their roadmap to hit the shelves with their GPUs earlier than AMD, sacrificing some of their supply side for the first mover’s advantage."

Awful article. Yields are extremely privileged information and nothing in the article offers anything more than clumsy conjecture based on supply.

"So how do you differentiate between legitimate supply “lag” due to demand exceeding forecast and supply issues? The answer lies in simply looking up Nvidia GPU availability right now. In theory, Nvidia was caught off guard only in their high end lineup which is the $699 price point. That means, that the middle end lineup should be unaffected. If you head over to Newegg.com right now you will see that its only the GTX 1080s are currently out of stock. The GTX 1070s on the other hand are still widely available. If you really wanted a GTX 1080, you could head over to Amazon.com and buy one at a premium of at least a $100 bucks."

You could quite justifiably reach the opposite conclusion that the wider availability of the cut-down part points to yield issues with the 1080. Not that Nvidia didn't forecast the large demand. The existence of the Founders Edition seems like a large hint that Nvidia already knew that it couldn't supply enough cards to meet demand at MSRP.

Nvidia aren't stupid, irrespective of the facts (and yields will never be made public) they are always going to say that the issue is unprecedented demand not some issue their end it's just smart PR.

Detractors will says this is due to bad yields and sycophants will say it's due to record demand. As usual it's more likely a combination of both strong demand and constrained supply.

I was just in Microcenter. They do not even have a shelf laying empty for the 1080, stocks are so limited they simply have not even rolled them out to the floor yet.

On another note.. I saw a $369 BRAND NEW 980ti sitting there. Wow.
