Well damn, I just over crying in the other thread saying "if it's $700 I'd think about, but it won't be $700."

There is a crow logged in my throat as I type this.

Sold! Day 1. Not waiting for AIB's like I did for my GTX 1080. Just buying it like I did when I snapped and scooped up the GTX 980 Ti. (Just did 16hrs of overtime so it's already paid for! )

Ha ha , one of the lessons I have learned over the years is that always wait for the Ti !

Day 1 purchase for me as well and sticking to a single GPU this time around. Hopefully, EK releases a waterblock for the reference boards soon so I can add it to my custom loop.

I think it will be a bit downgrade for you but from what I have seen SLI rarely works out of the box with new games today so you will also have significant less hassle for sure.

I agree with NVidia's timing being absolutely brilliant lining up with Ryzen. They know full well that countless thousands of people are building whole new rigs, and the 1080ti is here just in time. I don't like Nvidia's pricing, but the desire to have a shiny new GPU to go with my Ryzen build is too great to resist I'm afraid. Only difference is I won't be getting two of them this time. Too expensive and hasn't been worth it lately. I'd rather get a new GPU every year than rely on SLI carrying me for longer than that. Single 1080ti today and look forward to single 2080 or 2070 next year.

It will be a downgrade in games where SLI scaled well however in retrospect I should have just gotten a single 1080. It worked well in most games (90%) I played, but it was always a concern that a certain game wouldn't support it. Gears of war 4 never supported it and my 2nd card was a paperweight while playing that game.
Also, I'm offloading them to avoid taking a bigger loss if Vega is good and the possibility of another price drop.

Yeah no kidding. The GTX 1080 resale value just plummeted. Welps, wife gets mine so doesn't affect me much.

Nvidia with the combo breaker. That's game for AMD.
But hey, this may do what I expect. If AMd was THAT aggressive with Ryzen, if they can be aggressive with the Vega launch and hit the proper price brackets correctly it will work. The ONLY way this works is if Vega is FASTER than the 1080Ti (I doubt it but hey I HOPE SO). Or, if Vega's maximum price of $500-550. I feel like AMD went with the ULTRA value with the CPU side to the point where it's hard for consumers to justify spending $500 more for extra performance.

This is again one of those times where I wonder if I should just bite the bullet and get a 1080Ti, or wait for Vega. The last time I waited I got Fury Xd...

Nice at $699, Vega will not be $999

At least we are back in Kepler (GTX 780ti ) price points again.

LOL, yeah Fury was kind of a tough one. Nvidia did break AMD's combo. Nvidia is capitalizing on Ryzen's success when it should be AMD doing that with Vega. It would have been perfect and they could have rode the Ryzen hype train right into the Vega release, but...a huge opportunity missed for them I'm afraid.

You mean nobody will buy High-End GPUs in H2 2017 ??

Why is this titled as Faster than Titan X?

Maximum overclock of our sample is +232 MHz to the GPU's base clock, which increases max Boost from 1835 MHz to 2063 MHz (12% overclock), and 1405 MHz on the memory (12% overclock).

https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/NVIDIA/Titan_X_Pascal/27.html

That seems to be just slightly faster than what the 20% OC was giving them during their presentation (2038).

Since the Ti is cut down on memory and has less rops, how can it be faster if its running slightly lower clocks?

The AMD Ryzen hype train is definitely going. Already have a few friends asking what to buy. So seems I'll be building a few rigs this weekend :/

If the GTX 1080 price cut is immediate, I feel this is where NV is going to make a killing. the 1080 Ti is still priced for the enthusiast buyers, But at $500 if the current free game promo continues, easily going to sell to new AMD Ryzen buyers. As it is, For Honor is getting a lot of positive word of mouth in the circles I frequent. Hopefully I get it with the GTX 1080 Ti (I love free stuff).

For consumers, this has to be just about the best case scenario for the 1080Ti launch. It has essentially the same performance as the Titan XP, it will launch at the same $700 price point that the 1080 did, there's no FE tax, and it's launching pretty much immediately. If I wasn't moving at the end of the month I would probably swap the ATI out of my system for one of these. If Vega isn't out or at least reviews by the end of April, I might be switching teams.

The NV CEO straight up said it was faster than Titan X. My guess is the extra ROPs makes a negligible difference in performance in most workloads.

The memory is clocked higher out of the box on the 1080 Ti as well. 11 GHz now versus 10 GHz on the TXP.

I don't know why people are complaining about $700 for 1080 Ti versus $500 for Fermi 580. Ten years ago we had 7900 GTX 512 for $600, 8800 GTX for $650 and 8800 Ultra for $820. Adjusting for inflation, $700 for a top end GPU in 2017 is more than fair.

I don't think that's what he meant, but of course people will be buying high-end GPUs in H2 2017. Unfortunately, AMD won't have any... not if Vega is so pathetic it can barely compete with a year-old mid-range Pascal as what we've seen indicates.

Amazing card, amazing price. Its clear the optimal GPU price is 699.

Solid reasoning and conclusion.

I would have said the optimal GPU price is $384. But I forgot for a company it's profits which must go up, not simply be making a profit.

First day purchase for me as well. I will wait for reference reviews, but my gut feeling says i am done with custom cards - blower is pretty much needed for sub mATX builds. If @2Ghz boost clock it's at reasonable noise/temp i will jump to it.

Oh well, now i am gonna feel bad about getting 1080s last year If only it was so easy to replace them with Ti´s for minimal costs. I guess i stick to what i have and will wait for Volta.

EDIT: Out of curiosity, if i tried to sell at least one of my 1080s and replace it for Ti, would i be better off playing games on single Ti, rather than on 1080 SLI? Currently i play on single card anyway, since i have 24inch 1920*1200 display, and single 1080 is good enough to play even BF1 maxed at above 60FPS at that resolution. I was planning to get 4K display in near future though, so question is, single Ti or 2 1080s for 4K?

My other use for the cards is archviz rendering, where the cards dont need to be matched for both to work, so i would be definitely better off with 1080Ti + 1080 combo than 2 1080s for that purpose.

The GPU is genuinely positive surprise. Good value, compared to what we have seen to this day.

P.S. Nobody spotted that GTX 1080 got price cut to 499$?
