lol talk about cherry picking of the highest order. You are complaining about features that no gamer actually benefits from. All that matters is the performance number. The RX 480 has more features than a 390 but practically they are the same cards. The 1070 has more features than 980Ti but practically the same cards.

Just because the 1080 rests higher on the chart at release doesn't mean it's better price/performance. Techpowerup's chart is garbage anyways since they stick to MSRP of even very old cards which makes no practical sense.

And I don't look at price/performance in such an absolute manner at the high end. The Ti is 30% faster than it's nearest competitor and 40% more expensive. That to me is actually a win.

The 1080 was 25% faster and 60% more expensive than it's nearest competitor at launch. Now that's bad from any value perspective especially provided that the 1080 didn't even have more VRAM unlike the 1080Ti.

You were the one stating (incorrectly) that the 1080 had worse price/perf ratio. Sorry facts don't agree with you.

You are complaining about features that no gamer actually benefits from.

Yes Pascal wasn't much of a change over Maxwell but they did run with much less power and also included async compute which has good gains over Maxwell in DX12. Or does power now that matter? So hard to tell with the moving goal posts.

The Ti is 30% faster than it's nearest competitor and 40% more expensive. That to me is actually a win.

You do realize, that is still worse price/perf right?

Yes, compared to the Titan XP it is much better value... because its a price drop of that same chip.

There are no improvements just a price drop. The cooler isn't better and still throttles even though they claimed its the best one yet!

lol I said at launch the price/performance was worse.

I don't think you know how it works. The absolute price/performance of the 1080 was worse at launch compared to 1080Ti. Now it's better yes didn't deny that but you are really not trying to get what everyone is saying as well so no point.

Everything is a price drop. New features generally come through drivers. The Polaris is entirely a price drop I wonder if you claimed that back then?

As far as power consumption is concerned remind me when was the last time I considered that to be a big deal. It's the number 1 most overrated factor in PC gaming as far as I am concerned. As long as something doesn't demand a new PSU I really don't care about power consumption. The only time I would care about it is when all other variables are constant.

Wait... are you trying to say that the performance of the 1080 at launch for the price compared to the 1080 ti performance at launch vs its price? Because that will always happen unless somehow GPU got slower year/year. That is no achievement, it's a given.

Only software features come through drivers. Hardware features come from... hardware. How is Polaris a price drop? Its completely different chip than 390. Yes price/perf its much better as well.

No.

The 1080Ti only has marginally worse price/performance than the second best card whereas the 1080 had terrible price/performance compared to the second best card. That makes a 1080Ti launch purchase a much better deal than 1080 launch purchase. Not everything is measured in pure numbers you know.

The performance and gaming features are exactly the same. It doesn't matter what different jargon is used apart from the power consumption the 480 and 390 are practically the same cards. And the price drop in that case wasn't exactly Earth shattering either. We went from 280 to 240.

So with a new AMD Ryzen 7 1800X CPU, and two of these cards... Pushing the limits of Power Supplies...

For just the CPU and two graphics cards one would be pushing 2000 bucks alone. But that kinda money would get you 28.8 billion transistors in your box... That should do it!

Yeah but in about 8 months, some other jerk is going to have 30 billion transistors in their box, and then you'll feel bad.

Was able to snag an EVGA one from Newegg
Now incoming as well:

i7 6800K
MSI X99A Gaming Pro Carbon
32GB GSKILL DDR4 Quad Channel
Corsair H100i V2

And earlier a week ago I got Phanteks Evolv ATX (non tempered glass) and Phateks LED Strips (I have HAF 932 now)

I just spent $1700 coming from rig below, damn it

Tax money and bonus from work were sooo good this year

At least selling the stuff below will get me around 800 back

I managed to snag the evga founders edition from newegg. It comes with a coupon for wildlands or for honor. Meaning you pick the one you want.

Nice! We're going to have the same rigs. 1080ti + 6800K on the MSI X99A Gaming Pro Carbon. Hoping it handles Rocket League fairly well. My card was said to be shipping soon and should be here tomorrow. I need to get my homework done tonight so I can focus on the build the rest of the weekend. I will have a LOT of work to do. Oh boy this is always the fun part.

Pretty much what I'm doing this weekend as well. Taking apart my PC and putting my existing GPUs on Craigslist. Need to clean all the fittings, blocks and the radiators. The TI deserves a nice clean computer

Feels like a waste of money to me to use Ryzen 7 in that kind of setup. I would NEVER pair Ryzen 7 with that much GPU power. You're just bottlenecking yourself CPU wise. HEDT Platform from Intel is the only thing with enough power to let the high end GTX ti/Titan XP processor to truly shine.

Honestly, I'd rather even have a 7700k than Ryzen 7 in that setup and I think the bare minimum for that is a hexacore from intel.

OK, well I talked to EVGA, they said it was confirmed. I wasn't happy with that so I checked with my bank, the payment was approved but not processed yet. EVGA told me I should be good to go, but I am skeptical. I am so obsessive its crazy. Damn I need like GPU's anonymous or something.

You're welcome!

Newegg out here drip feeding stock. Maybe I can grab one tonight.

EDIT: nowinstock gave me an alert and ZOTAC's model came in stock just long enough for me to snag it. Also picked up a waterblock so I guess I'm in it now.

What TIM do you guys use for GPUs? I've been using AS5 (since them tubes last forever it feels), but might pick something up at Microcenter if it's "better" for GPUs.

I picked up a Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut last time I needed to use a TIM. It's been pretty good but honestly I don't feel there's a big enough difference to purchase new TIM.

I use as5 as well or whatever TIM comes with the block. Works well for me.

I use the kind of old-school Gelid GC-Extreme: it was among the top (apart from liquid metal) years ago but may have been superseded.

I am not aware of GPU-specialized TIM, if there are any.
