Learn something new everyday. Used the link and found one on Newegg.com and it will be here Friday. Decided to do the FE route this time and custom cooling down the road.

Awesome! I'm glad you were able to snag one! NowInStock can be pretty helpful in the future for any big release that's bound to have stock issues. I learned about it back when I got my ASUS ROG Swift, and it helped quite a bit there.

At long last

Going with a blue-themed build?

That's the plan. I already have blue LED case fans and a blue pump top so I figured I'll go with blue fluid. Got some bitfenix blue sleeved cables as well to match.

The techpowerup article has the Asus ROG Strix GTX 1080 Ti unable to OC as high as the FE edition. Ouch. Was hoping that removing thermal limits was going to give it some legs. At least the price is right at only a $40.- markup over the FE. It's quieter and cooler, just not faster.
I'll wait for further testing. I don't believe adding a better cooler to the fastest card would hurt it.

God I want a 1080ti

I am thinking about picking up 1080 FTW or something for about $540. I don't think I could stomach $200 extra for an aftermarket 1080ti. I only game at 1440p. Also trying to decide if its worth upgrading over my OCed 980ti.

A 1080 is not worth it over a 980ti in my opinion. If you are concerned about wasting money on an upgrade that isn't worthwhile, then a 1080 will leave you feeling a little sad I think. I would certainly not get a 1080. A single 1080ti replaced my two 980ti's and I am quite happy with it, so coming from a single 980ti you would see a pretty big jump. However, I was basically coming from a single 980ti as well, because using two cards for performance scaling works about as well as using dog poo for shoe polish.

That seems to be ref 980ti vs non ref 1080ti. Non ref vs Non ref or Ref vs Ref its more like 80-90%.

It would have been pathetic if they didn't see a huge jump with the advantage of going from 28nm -> 16nm.

Poor consoles are still trying to catch up to 1080p@30fps and the gap isn't going to get any closer.

Those poor consoles also cost less than half than the single card you are comparing it against for the full system...

Welps either I lost the lottery, or something is wrong on my end. I should have benched it with the stock shroud for comparisons :/

I got my EVGA Hybrid CLC installed, but I've been busy so I didn't get to bench the card with the stock cooler. Either way, seems the mod works temps are fine, and core never goes over 50c in the tests I manage to complete. But my OC limits are rather low.

I can't seem to more then +150 offset to the core and finish a Unigine Heaven with out it pausing. It doesn't flat out crash but it is apart my driver is either crashing or restarting.

Max core I see is 2025 and it doesn't seem to sustain it even with maximum power option on. Unless I'm doing something wrong. Funny thing is, I run more stable with offset +150 on core/memory with Power @100% then if I increase power limit. So not sure what wall I'm hitting or my die is just the loser of it's yield.

Welps, tad disappointed, but glad the hybrid worked. Took about 30 minutes to install.

1080p @ 30fps is 1/4 the resolution and 1/2 the framerate. So what's your point?

I'm hoping I get a good OC on mine, if I hit 2050 I will be happy. 2.1k would be great. Just installed the waterblock on mine last night and will probably put it in back tonight.

That you are comparing apples and oranges?

Comparing resolution and frame rate on two devices is apples and oranges? Still not getting your point, or are you just trying to argue for the sake of it?

That's a sexy block. Hopefully the OC Gods shine down on you. I can't seem to keep mine stable >2K ghz. Seems happy right around 1988. Few runs it will hit 2050 mhz for just a few seconds then crash back down to 1988 mhz. I'm wondering if it's a power issue for me. Wonder if I should give it a little more voltage. :/

Sucks going from a 2,050mhz GTX 1080 to a 1988mhz GTX 1080 Ti.

Freaking FedEx seems to have completely been immobilized due to the snowstorm. There's no delivery date on my package anymore... and I paid for 2 day delivery.

Try giving it a little more voltage if possible. I doubt you're hitting any thermal limits at 50c. The difference between 1988 and 2.1k is probably negligible in real world performance but I know the feeling

Sucks. Looks like mine made it from California to Tennessee today and will hopefully make it here tomorrow so it's at least making it that far across the country. Just the last leg is the problem.

You are comparing a $700+ video card against a $200-300 full system console. Apples and Oranges

Let's back up. I was comparing just the capabilities of this card to what the current consoles are doing today. They can't even do 1080p@30fps in a lot of games while this card is able to do 4k@60fps in many games. That is a very valid comparison as games are cross platform and the limitations on the console side can have a negative impact on PC. A gap that will only grow over the next 3 years. You are the one solely focused on price which was not the point of my post so you can either a) talk about capabilities and the growing performance gap b) go argue price somewhere else or c) continue to talk about fruit

How do I monitor vram temps? Wondering if I'm hitting a temp issue there since with the hybrid mod I no longer have active cooling over the vram plate. The fan is still in blow but because of no shroud the air flow doesn't get to the opposite side of the CLC plate very well.

I was able to do a +150/+150 run of Unigine before coming to work. Shows spikes of hitting 2025 even 2050mhz, so I'm guessing something is holding it back.

Haha, at this point I'm just nitpicking, with the CLC in place temps aren't an issue and the card is quieter than my system fans (which I should probably replace or let the MoBo PWM control em because they are a tad too loud.)

This card is about 6 days old, and the PS4/XBone are more than 2 years old now.

Let's see where we are with Scorpio some time next year.

I don't think anyone here would be defending the universally understood poor performance of your average console when it comes to PC, but you're always going to have these issues with a piece of hardware that is designed to have a long, tedious life span.

....that being said: yeah, these consoles are only 2 years old, and back at a time when 1080/30p really wasn't all that hard for a midrange PC dGPU to accomplish. (but again, just one card). And I doubt the Vega card in Scorpio is going to be directly competing with the 1080ti, but is "purportedly" capable of 4k60p. I'm assuming that there will be quality setting compromises to achieve this in a console.

I don't think you can monitor VRAM temperatures. However, if your VRAM is getting too hot that might be your problem.
I use a fan controller to control all the fans I have in my system. I also prefer it over the Mobo as I have knobs rather than software controlling them.
