GTX 780 SC should compete quite well overall compared to R290X. There is little doubt that GTX 780 Ti will be significantly faster overall in comparison. I suppose we will find out soon enough.

From what has been leakead so far I tend to disagree with you. Keeping power in check and releasing a more fully enabled die is not going to be enough to catch up in games that favor AMD. Just like games that favor nvidia will still be there.

I think the R9 290x is going to likely trade blows with the 780 Ti. Which will be quite a coup for AMD considering the die size.

No idea what the resolution was for the testing. Looks like a GTX 780 Ti would need to be more of a Titan than a 780 to be competitive....Based on these results....If they are accurate.

What is with the random overclocking?

While a very important part of a review, it is usually in the back for a reason....overclocks aren't guaranteed, and can even kill a warranty. Nice to look at, but not weighed very heavily on one review alone.

On the bright side NDA must be lifting very soon

I don't know. Not sure what a good clock is for a 780 but it looks like the lightning is cranked up there.

I'm not shopping for a card anytime soon anyways.

The r290 looks more interesting than the others depending on it's price point.

I want to see some crossfire leaks! Wondering how the bridgeless solution works compared to the traditional bridge solution. Less stutter? FPS? Looks interesting.

It'd be funny if...

There’s not much more I can say at this point, except that I have several cards tested at 3840x2160, and R9 290X doesn’t just do well against the GeForce GTX 780…With that, I should probably get back to the lab before I get myself into trouble.

...also referred to the 780Ti. Makes sense if it did, or else he probably would have said Titan instead of 780.

That R290 non-X looks delicious, just like the 7950 all over, amazing potential with OC and good $$.

GTX 780 SC is already faster than Titan. There is little doubt that GTX 780 Ti will be significantly faster than even the GTX 780 SC (because otherwise it would be pointless to release it). Obviously there will always be some games that favor AMD's architecture, just as there will always be some games that favor NVIDIA's architecture, but GTX 780 Ti should capture the overall single GPU performance crown for the remainder of this year and for some time next year too.

FWIW, GTX 780 on it's own doesn't come close to maximizing performance for a GK110 die. Case in point is Quadro K6000, which has 25% more CUDA "cores" and a significantly higher GPU clock operating frequency in comparison to GTX 780, and yet has a TDP rating of "only" 225w.

This comes directly from nVidia:
A Last Surprise
While NVIDIA said that The Way It’s Meant To Be Played Montreal was not about a graphics card launch, but about gaming technologies and experiences, Huang surprised the audience by announcing a brand new GPU, the GeForce GTX 780 Ti. No other details or specs were released, but suffice it to say that it will continue the tradition of delivering industry leading performance in every dimension – speed, power efficiency, thermal and acoustics.

maybe I should ask the mods to add Ti after my log in for respect
-same crap different sku nv[high cost] has been milking the gk110 same chip titan/780 owners paid for but did not get , not sure how you posters can go with this except for the fact you would never buy one or even consider it , but will wave the green flag anyways.
[I have only used nv gpu's]

I don't think a fully enabled GK110 die was logically possible until recently.

Even K20X was fused off one SMX, just recently Nvidia released a full die chip for HPC... And now we hear rumors of a new GTX card... Dot Dot Dot

And the R9 290X will be able to save you some money off your heating bill this winter as well.

I can say from experience, 250w from an AMD card heats the room just as well as 250w from an Nvidia card.

Unless AMD reaches the potential in HPC that GK110 has, than die size is just a disingenuous cop out.

Of course it does. But, I am going to have a little fun here and there with the power and heat output of the 290X...if that is ok (just for a little while, that is).

He specifically referred to heat, acoustics, and power demands of this card. You know good and well he was taking a dig at the 290s.

I wouldn't be surprised if that core speed (1162) was default boost. My Classifieds both run 1150 default. Now 1672 on the memory isn't default (1500), but it's not a good overclock by any stretch. Mine will do 1851 before even adding voltage.

yay! I've been holding out on a second 780 for 2-3 months now. Depending on how aggressively AMD prices their cards, it will hopefully drop down in the 550 range.

Oh, absolutely. Die size is a metric that makes or breaks a card.

More performance out of a smaller chip is impressive engineering. I didn't say that it makes it the best GPU because of that. It just makes it impressive that they were able to squeeze somuch out of a smaller die than nvidia.

Of course nvidia has had the same die basically for two years and this one is newer, but it still gives me hope that amd will continue to push nvidia at least. ( they need to show us something on the CPU side...)

Uhm, it was more or less confirmed that Monday is only Tom Pederson, NV's fairy marketing dude, demo'ing stuff at PC-perspective for their podcast or something along those lines. No new announcement.

He's there to demo stuff at PCPer, it's not an NV event, per se. I'd assume that with g-sync being the most exciting news to come out today, that it will be demo'ed for PCPer's stream/podcast/whatever.
