Pretty exciting times in the world of graphics this time of the year. I doubt the 780 Ti or the 290X will best the Titan across the board. I'll have to sit this one out until something better comes along. Most likely next year when nVidia releases Maxwell.

We are likely talking a few percentage points anyway for any of them. Not worth an upgrade for sure. Other than you might be able to sell your Titans for enough to buy the new cards outright?

At least AMD and Nvidia have found a way to make things exciting again. I wasn't expecting anything really noteworthy to happen until 20nm.

This announcement makes me think that the 290x is significantly faster than GTX780. If not they were not even bother to release a new SKU.

They probably just want to make sure they have competition for both the 290 and 290X.

Since the 780 and Titan are so close in performance, it seems that Nvidia has already decided that they don't care if the 780 Ti needs to be faster than a Titan. How awesome would it be if they released a full GK110, sans double precision support? This way, they have a 290x competitor, and the Titan still says relevant.

There have already been rumors of this card, but everyone was calling it "Titan Ultra". though the were predicting this very announcement, date and all.

And that happens when you have 438mm vs 500mm+ in the same node.

I bet GTX780 Ti will be faster than TITAN. NV will probable keep TITAN as is, simple by keeping it the only DP high performance GPU.

Yup, Titan for those doing casual CUDA.

If true, the question is how would Nvidia know that? Spies?

Tech sites have their 290 review units, I imagine among that group there may be an individual or two willing to reveal some information to friendly Nvidia or Nvidia connected contacts.

I find it kind of annoying when companies do paper launches like this. If there is not yet a product, with reviews and available in the shops its not a real launch. AMD got really ridiculous with the 290X and preorders but at least they provided some idea of market segment and performance with their paper launch. Nvidia just showed off a heatsink on some PCB which may or may not be a working card. They both haven't given us a lot to go on.

Until it gets onto the hands of the reviewers and they take it through its paces we cant really compare the two.

The choice has become so much more complicated with TruAudio, Mantle, G-sync, ShadowPlay etc etc. We aren't just getting a card with performance in a particular area we are getting a huge bundle of special features with each as well.

nVidia said the cards will be in stores in mid november. So what's the problem?

Pretty sure that the GTX 780 TI is a GK180 2880 core.

Considering that it have 6+8 power like GTX 780 but beat it and its the greatest GPU ever made, it must be based on the new GK180 which is more efficient than GK110.

A full GK180 2880 core GPU consume the same as a GK104 2688 core GPU. The bandwidth have also increased from 250GB/s to 288GB/s on the GK180.

the bandwidth is already 288gb/s on the gtx780.

My bet is 15% faster than Titan, 10% faster than 290X. Uses more energy(or maybe same energy as Titan), overclocks more. Clocks starts at 9xx and boost up to 1xxx.
My wish for the 780Ti: custom versions.

Last time you said it is gk110. Something changes since then?
Can you share efficiency data of gk180 with us?

There s a few people by there that think that increasing
the SP count by 7% will result in the same comsumption.

Unless it is at lower frequency this is wishfull thoughts
that are at odd with physical laws.

The 7% said extension will forcibly increase power comsumption
by at least 5% in best case scenario and assuming Nvidia
release a fully fuctional chip it wont do better than 5% lead
over the Titan , with said 5% higher watts numbers.

There are other possibilities, improved fab, tweaked design, better reference board design...

Nvidia seems to lend creedence to the notion that it is a tweaked GK110, as it no longer carries the GK110 name. GF100 and GF110 were basically the same chip, yet we know what kind of improvements they saw. This is just point of fact, not that GK110 suffers such deficiencies that a similar increase in performance/reduction in power would be possible with GK110.

Sorry but theses are pure wishfulll thoughts as well..

Wich improved fab.?. The process is totaly mature , the design
is done and cant be changed overnight , as for the reference
board it wont change nothing to the physics , literaly ,
that they have nothing else than 7% higher brute force
than the Titan assuming they increase the thermals by 5%
and still this will not be enough for a clear cut in perf crown.

Sorry to burst the hopes so abruptly but did you
actualy believe that Nvidia could had a trump card.?.

No that was just my way of ignoring you because I don't feel like arguing history with someone denying it.

I don't think anyone called the GTX 780 Ti a trump card, but if you need that straw man to defeat, I believe you've won.

I find it surprising that people believe they did not when they clearly did not release any of their high end hardware to begin with but simply matched/competed with/beat the competition with cards that were pretty mid-level. They have been able to release card after card that one ups the previous one on the same process this gen.

I've never seen so many high-end cards competing at once! GTX 690, 780, Titan, 780 Ti vs 7990, R9 290, and R9 290X.

Hope to see some nice price cuts.

Some people would be happy with just actual prices.

It just that they almost exhausted their reserve and the last
remaining eventual drop is 7% more processing power on the
paper at same frequencies.
