Wait, so this card is going to be faster than the Titan?

Shouldn't they call it Titan TI or Titan Ultra? Very weird nomenclature, makes it seem like it's slower than the Titan.

If it was called the Titan Ti or Titan Ultra people would expect it to cost $999+

The safe bet is that it's a Titan with 3GB VRAM clocked higher like a GTX 780 currently is vs a Titan. Without the useless DP performance on a gaming card.

DP may have more benefits in the future especially with the GPU taking on more compute tasks. suppose they want to replicate something and dp is needed for that or makes it easier? also, hyperQ very much can be useful for gaming. limited hardware scheduling is not a good idea either because then the drivers have to be continually tweaked to maximize performance and that is more of a waste than i am.

and if it's called 780 ti then i think it will have the GK110 feature set. if it doesn't then i will be sure to get the plain 780.

Maybe this is what they waited for? Maybe they have a r290xT sitting on the shelf? Would be funny if so? Would be even funnier if they are currently using gimped drivers for the r290x.

My guess is they know Titan loses to R9 290X or this card wouldn't be needed. So this will allow them to hold fast with a small lead in enough games to still claim supremacy.

I believe it is being introduced because Titan is too expensive to produce as a R9 290X competitor. 780Ti will IMHO be marginally faster or trade blows with R9 290X.

Nvidia simply need to produce a cut down Titan with the DP removed and 3GB VRAM, add in a Core clock boost and you have a card faster than Titan.

This is why anyone who wishes to see the downfall of one company or the other just needs to buy a PS4 and be done with it.

NV could have released this card months ago if AMD had put pressure on them.

Can you imagine where we would be if NV, AMD, and TSMC had all been on top of their game in the last 24 months?

It might make Titan owners a little upset on the gaming side if its faster and cheaper. It will destroy the value by half.

There's no reason they have to keep Titan positioned in the overall product stack. It's not part of the 700 series.

They may be planning on phasing it out anyway. I can't imagine Titan sales are good since the 780's debut, and with the 290X around the corner there will be little reason to get it, outside of those that need it for compute.

DP and HyperQ have nothing to do with gaming.

I am kind of disappointed that all nvidia did was stand on the stage with card in hand and say its name. Not even a slide saying where it fits in their lineup. Ti in the past has meant faster and slower so we really have no idea what this thing is out to do, its price or anything beyond mid November availability. Would have been nice to at least be told it was targeting above the existing 780. Nvidia's CEO did say it was the fastest gaming GPU in the world but I didnt take that as a serious comment about its market position.

Agreed the game has slowed because there's only two players...this is what competition brings and I want much more because it helps the pockets of the needy but AMD hopefully will get it on.

They want to see how the 290X performs, if it performs better than expected, then they can throw in a new bios with new turbo clocks and bam. You have the fastest single in the world again. They want to keep that title.

or... they are just going to look slower on the reviews.
it was obvious that Nvidia could easily release something GK110 based faster than Titan, and if the 290x was not clearly faster than Titan, it will certainly not going to outperform this card.

I don't see a reason to not use it if it is really as similar in terms of API structure (function calls and such) with the console development as AMD is describing. The development cost to benefit ratio would be very favorable.

It should be noted that Carmack has worked closely with Nvidia for a very long time.
