GeForce2 GTS 32mb DDR - Question

I recently purchased a OverClockerz GeForce2 GTS 32mb, and it is not as fast as i thought. I get about the same FSP in Couter Strike as I did with my old TNT2 PRO. I downloaded the drivers that came with the card, and I even downloaded the detanator3 drivers from the nVidia site.

If it helps, here is my current rig:
duron 700@900
ABIT KT7 (non A)
256mb PC150 CAS2
27gb Maxtor
a FOP38
50x CD-ROM
56k modem
NIC card
SB Live! Value
and the video card.

I have a Sony Multiscan 200ES (and it says Trinitron in the other corner if that makes a difference)

Any ideas/comments would be much appreciated!!!

i dunno wut 2 say but there should be a large difference in FPS...from a TNT to a gts

What resolution have you been playing at?
If you're running in low res, like 640x480, or 800x600, you might be CPU bound and thus not see much of a difference no matter what card you try.
With a Duron900 you shouldnt become CPU bound too easially though.

On a side note, my experience with CS and framrates has been that there's just no possible way to make CS run perfectly.

I've gone from a P2-266 with a V2-12 MB, and now, loads of upgrades later, Im using a Duron600@900 with a GF DDR, and it doesnt seem one bit faster, the only difference has been increased resolution before it slows down further.

I can never get CS to run at more than 100 FPS, no matter what I do.. it's just stubborn. :|

You are not cpu bound....anyway, did you download the latest 4-in-1 VIA driver pack?

try turning up the resolution. or turning fsaa on... makes it look a lot better

Half Life is a Quake 2 engine game and has no need for a GF2 at all. What are you using to test the FPS. That silly thing they have while your playing ?? The GF2 can easily run Half Life at 200+ FPS without a given a flinch.

Do you have VSync on?

A TNT2 or GF2 should both easily hit your monitors refresh rate so if you are VSync'd you get equal scores.

The fps cap on half life is 72

actually the fps max in HL is 99 or 100, unless it can go higher with vsync off never tried it. Just type in HL console fps_max 100, or whatever you want it to be.

The most I have been able to get to show on the net_graph is 100. I have always felt as if there is some kind of cap on the online game or on the graph itself tho. I run a GTS 2 and it acts as if it wants to go higher.

And yes, the default fps_max is 72. Change as the previous post says.
You may have to change your adapter settings and your monitor refresh rate also.

heh...maybe you don't quite understand. I am getting aroud like 20-30 FPS....that is somplete sh!t!!!!!!! I am running at 800x600, and I have no idea what vSync is. Can anyone fill me in? And what is fsaa?

Also, when I go into the video modes screen, there are 2 choices - Software/Direct3D/OpenGL . Mine was set at software - is this bad? heh...

And to the person who complains about being stuck at 100fps.....bah!!!

Yes DO NOT use software, I dont know HL but D3d or Open Gl is ALWAYS better than software.
