Go for the Pro. You get 90% of the performance and it costs less. If you are going to spend the extra money, splurge for a GF3

LegionX:

No, there are two different kinds of nVidia "Pro" cards on the market. There's the GeForce2 Pro, which has 5ns memory (although some have 5.5ns memory) and is clocked at 200/400 (or 200/366 if has 5.5ns memory). Then there's the MX 400 core, which some manufacturers are calling a GeForce2 MX Pro to distinguish it from the original MX and the MX 200.

agentq232:

Make sure that the card you are getting is a GeForce2 Pro, not a GeForce2 MX Pro. The GF2 Pro should cost a bit more (in the $150-200 range) and should have 5ns or 5.5ns memory. If you have any questions about the card you're buying, post a link or some specs here and we'll take a look. In response to your original question, I agree with Swanny: get the GF2 Pro. You'll save yourself some money in the long run, money that you can use to upgrade to a GF3 later on.

I have a question Apple,

I recently bought a new computer, althought i wasnt for sure on the Video Card.
I purchased a Hercules 3D Prophet 2 ULTRA GTS (64 mb DDR) AGP...

Was wondering if this was a simple Typo, or if its different than the regular ULTRA 64mb.

Much appreciated,

k0w

k0w, you have a GeForce 2 Ultra card. I'm not sure which "typo" you are referring to, though.

agentq... As Swanny said, either splurge for the GF3 or get the Pro.

Hiya Guys (and Girls),

Sorry about not being clearer earlier.
I was referring to the ULTRA GTS, and the ULTRA (note: lack of GTS)
Ive looked around everywhere, and found no documentation on it,
i had just assumed that it was the Ultra based card

Check it out @ Hypersonic PC's -> Cyclone Model

Thanks again for the super quick replies,

agent, the msi 831 pro has 5 ns ram. Pretty good deal for a 64mb pro.

The GTS has a 200MHZ GPU and 6ns memory.
The GTS Pro has a 200MHZ GPU and 5ns memory.
The GTS Ultra has a 250MHZ GPU and 4ns memory.

Even if it doesn't say GTS...it is.

Actually it's even better than you think.

The Hercules is probably the most desirable of all Geforce2 brands.

The prices they fetch are unbelievable. I've heard that Hercules cards tend
to have better memory and people seem to have better overclocking results.

Good choice

You're exactly right, i read an article on one of the other forums/pages i read;

- taken from planethardware.com

or

- direct URL HERE

"When we decided to clock our card, we were able to get it to some impressive levels - without one single lockup, we were able to crank the card up to 310MHz core clock and a 300MHz RAM clock! Thus, since the RAM clock speed is doubled, we were able to get it to 600MHz. These numbers represent a 24% gain in core clock and a 30% gain in RAM clock. It's worth noting that we could have conceivably gone higher, but we decided not to push it due to the lack of a good cooling system. "

Jeez, 600mhz DDR equivalent ( /me trying to restrain from peeing myself)
I realize however, that not all cards are this workable, but still
Wow ...

Enjoy,
