When comparing within the GeForce line of cards, usually the more money you spend the better you get. Of course with the exception of the GeForce 4 MX, all the GeForce 4 cards are better than the GeForce3 cards. It just depends on how much you are willing to spend.
A simple internet search will give you more benchmarks and reviews than you can read in a day.

i remember the G4mx line to be modified geforce2's with a geforce4 memory controller. I suggest you stay away from those and get a geforce4ti4200 instead.
ed, if you look at Anand's latest budget video card shootout, you'd notice that the GF4MX440 and 460 hang right there with the GF3, not bad for a sub $200 card, whereas the GF3 is a lot more expensive.

IMO the GF4 Mx's aren't around GF3 performace.

Go to this review of sub $200 video card reviews. This will give a good idea of the lower end video cards on course with your CPU MHz speed. Very good article.
