I just stepped up to the pump and ordered. Free shipping, the price is inline with the introduction of a top of the line card, free goodies...but best of all it will be an nvidia reference card manufactured by nvidia. Thats the hot deal for me.

I could be wrong, but after all the hype, paper launch and holdups on this card I'm banking on nvidia only letting the best of the best be put in the shipping cartons at launch. It wouldn't be good for them if something like the Gainward ti-4200 fiasco were to happen here. Quality product should come forth shortly.

I retract my former statement due to THIS posting on 3dchipset.com:

Link

This BFG in this snippet is CONFIRMED to be the 500Mhz core speed AND using the "Leaf Blower"
cooler.

For those who don't want to click the link:

Myself as well as some of our viewers who emailed me wanted to know more about the offering BFG Technologies was offering for pre-order. I emailed them and John Malley sent this to us:

1) This is the GeForce FX (NV30) chipset. There is no ultra version that I am aware of.

2) We are selling the GeForce FX with the following specs:
128MB DDR2
500MHz Core Clock
1GHz effective DDR2 Memory Clock
Dual 400Mhz RAMDACS
VGA, VIVO, DVI-I connectors
16GB/sec memory bandwidth (32GB with compression)

Here is an update I received from John Malley. The Asylum GeForce FX will indeed be equipped with Nvidia's new Leaf Blower cooler. Below is the specs and requirements I received from John:

Minimum 350W system power supply *required*
Requires an AGP compliant motherboard (Some motherboards violate the AGP specification. The card may not physically fit in some systems for this reason.)
Requires a vacant PCI slot adjacent to the AGP slot. This board occupies two slots: AGP and one PCI.
Requires an available to hard disk drive power dongle (smaller floppy disk drive connector is not sufficient)

Seems like the $400+ cards are going to be the 256MB versions.

paying $400 for a video card certainly isn't

dude, read prior posts before posting. you get free shipping and a t-shirt. besides, just becuases its a lot of money, its not a hot deal???

True, also keep in mind that this card was rumored to cost around $500-$700 , so $400 was quite a nice surprise to alot of us.

Plus some other stupid facts:

The Geforce 4 FX .13 chip has 125,000,000 transistors , cost $400
350,000,000 triangles per second ( the Geforce 2 GTS did 25,000,000 triangles per second)

The P4 3.06 ghz .13 chip has 55,000,000 transistors, lowest Pricewatch is $630
(incidentally the Geforce 3 had about 55 million transistors as well)

HAHAHAHHAA checking out the price per transistor sure is a meaningful way to estimate the price of a product!!!

Is it just me, or is anyone else a little wary about preordering an extremely complex video card from a manufacturer resurrected from the dead husk of a bankrupt cardmaker which used to be one of the world's largest cardmakers/distributers?

I think I'll wait until Best Buy puts out the PNY cards for preorder - the swag and a demo (albeit beta) I've already played and QUICKLY uninstalled don't interest me. A stable company which most likely isn't going anywhere anytime soon is.

I also wonder if this still is the "Ultra" version due to this posting on HardOCP:

I just wish companies would RELEASE the info already.... :|

No matter, though - my Ti4600 is still plenty fast for what I need it for. Be it 70FPS or 250, it's still enjoyable gaming. I WILL get a next-gen card, but I'll wait to see what my options are before squandering my 10% coupon and 118 dollars in store credit

Actually, I think the talent portion of the company, i.e. engineers, programmers, etc. are with the new company. The old brass is not running the show.
I do agree with the ti4600 being fast enough for now. For my next card I'd want an AIW 9700 pro or better.

Agreed, except that (as was the case with 3dfx), the talent isn't enough. I hope they've got good accountants.

Anyone want to start a betting pool on Gateway getting in over their heads again? Or even BB for that matter? Vegas should do ODDS!

In favor of a massive pricemistake: 1 pays 15000
In favor of a complete MSRP-fest: 1 pays .20

Besides, I've gotten to the point where I actually want to HEAR about games that'll be using the next DX iteration before buying a card to play the games that may or may not be plentiful. Besides, the only game I want one of these for is Lock On: Modern Air Combat. Damn RIGHT I'm a simmer!

Nice! Wondered how much performance boost I can get by putting a GFFX GPU into P4 Motherboard, 8Ghz Nvintel. :Q

If not, I would try Nforce2 board, they are both made by Nvidia, compatibility shouldn't be a problem. 8000+ Nvidiamd. LOL.

Seriously, I would consider my second Radeon 9700Pro purchase @ $200 range when the GFFX finally come out in quantities. ATI did that before with R8500 against G4, they will do it again. Wait a minute, someone is whispering R350 at my ear. Damn, I would never get a chance to finally settle down playing one PC games this year.:frown:

For those thinking that PNy or some other company will be releasing a better card. Research a bit and you will see that ALL NV30 cards are the same. You will see nill performance increase from any other vendor because Nvidia is making ALL the NV30 cards. At least for now. But if support is your concern, you'll see that BFG isn't a bad company, and from the people I know that have purchased BFG cards, they are very happy.

You know, I almost started to consider biting on this deal because of the feeding frenzy, but then I realized that I have a BestBuy close by; meaning it will be in the store when it's released (so who cares about free shipping) and it will be at the same price; I'll still have to pay tax on it, and like with the 9700 pro, there are no games available that will do it justice - just glitzy demos (who cares about 209 fps in Q3 - I never even play that game anymore). I certainly don't care about a free t-shirt or would I care to wear a BFG skullcap around town and look like an idiot walking billboard. The rest of the coupons are nice, but I don't need new speakers or anything else at the moment. I don't think I'll miss out on a whole lot by just waiting to see how this card pans out and wait for NewEgg to sell it cheaper with no tax.

Much as my nvidia mind hates to say it.. I believe the ati will be ahead on the day of release.. too many factors say ati has a card ready.. even if it's their version of an ultra it's very possible they'll put something out that stomps nvidia again. My next card will most likely be an ATI unless I see overwhelming indicators stating nvidia has the best.

They don't. R350 is .15 micron and is going to just be a clock speed/RAM upgrade refresh of the R300. RV350 will be their first .13 micron chip, which will be focused on the value and mobile markets.

As consumers that is the healthiest mindset to have, I too am not loyal.

Chiz take that 9700 back ASAP! Put that cash down on a GFFX!

Oh and I am can almost guarantee that you could sell the Pre-order pack for at least $50 on Ebay if you wanted to keep your costs down.

Here is how it will work for me:
$433 - $50 = $383 shipped

Just a thought..

ATI will either have a new version of the 9700 to comptete with the FX, or they will undercut the FX by lowering the price of the 9700 substantially.

This could lead to a considerably lower price for the FX in the not too distant future.

My prediction is the 9700 Pro price will drop to $250 retail at the time of the FX launch, which means street prices close to or under $200.

Hehe, well the problem is, I just sold my Ti4200 Turbo to a fellow ATer, shipping it today. So I won't have anything other than a GF3 Ti200 to tide me over which doesn't cut it at 1280 (my 1900 LCD's native resolution) ....and March is too far away

I've heard reports that Leadtek and MSI will be quicker to market with the GF FX, so I may end up going that route. The extra goodies would be nice, but I already have tons of computer related stuff all over

Odoe, I'm quite aware that all the initial cards are confirmed to be reference designs made by nVidia themselves. I just want one attached to a company I'm quite sure isn't going anywhere anytime soon. I TRUSTED Visiontek, now I trust PNY more than I do BFG Tech. In three years, if they're still around, I'll adjust my feelings accordingly.

Well, it all comes down to price/performance. Since I paid about $200 for my Radeon 9700, it will be hard to justify getting this card for $400 for a 20-40% performance increase.......my two $.02....

Why do people preorder stuff? It's always at full price, it locks you in at full price, and I've yet to see anything on preorder run out for more than one or two days after it's released.
