geforcefx stopped working

alright so i had this geforcefx 5600 working fine, got some uv paitn form a site that said it was supposed to be safe for all parts inside a computer, even video card, they lied, now my video card isnt working, what i am hoping is that the paint has caused it so the part of the hardware that plugs into the motherboard isnt getting electrciity through the paint from the mobo, the paint is supposed to come off with just soap and water, but i dont want to use water, how do i get this stuff off the card without damaging it anymore and possibly salvating this good card?? i heard alcohol could work??

You probably shorted out your card. Pics of it under UV light so we can see what you traced?

Far as cleaning it up ... as long as the card isn't wet when you power it up or you scrub it to nothingness, a gentle cleansing with just water might work. Don't use alcohol.

pure alchohol with no water content at all should work.

If you painted the heatsink or memory chips that would cause severe heat issues.

well it was a spray, not a trace, so everything is painted including heatsinks, but what to use, water or alcohol, you guys got me all confused??

I'm unsure - the directions say "soap and water" but if it's a spraypaint I assume that's with hard scrubbing though. The reason I suggested against alcohol is because it can leave residue, but now it seems like the better choice. Of course, that's if the card will work at all.

Did you mask off the contacts when you spraypainted it? If not, *hopefully* all you need to do is use rubbing alcohol (or maybe acetone/paint thinner?) to clean the gold contacts where it plugs into the motherboard. Of course, if the paint is even mildly conductive or capacitive, you've probably ruined the card forever.

I hope you let it dry completely first. If not, you have one very dead card, guaranteed. In either case, coating the RAM and heatsink might have hurt it as well.

The page *says* it's nonconductive, so presumably it actually is (unless you sprayed on so much that the bottom layer never dried). Did you try cleaning off the contacts?

After looking at the page and some examples, it should work if the contacts are cleaned. They show a NIC totally covered - except the PCI connector - and I assume it works.

well the isopropyl took off the paint like that.. im gonna test my video card out on my roommates computer tomorrow, if it works, then thatll rock, hopefully ill just clean off my ram too and ill be good to go, otherwise, im probably just going to go cry in my bed like a little schoolgirl, thnaks a lot guys for all the help

good news, the video card, after cleaning the contacts, is back in buisness, it is getting a lil hot so i will clean off the heatsinks and wahtnot
bad news, my computer is still not working, hopefully after a cleaning of the ram and processor and all vital parts, it will be working once again!! thanks for all your help guys!!

well anywho, everything is up and running now, had me in for a huge scare there for a while, for any of you who ever decide to do this to your computer, cover the contacts before you spray, saves you a lot of aggrevation haha pz
