For my next upgrade I'm looking at getting a i875 based board and with it some dual channel DDR memory. I've read a couple hardware site reviews about this memory, but does anyone here have any first hand experience with it? I'm thinking about getting 2x512MB PC3200 or PC3500. This memory is pretty cheap compared to the premium you'll pay when buying Corsair or Mushkin memory.

I think the fact that not many guys running them kind of speaks for itself... Why not go with either Hyper-X or TwinMos/Winbond? I think these are more proven modules than Geil, and they comparable in price as well, IMHO...

Some of the reviews seemed to indicate that they were a major player in the DRAM market, but not here in the US as they just got into the market here. Maybe that's why not many people are using their memory yet?

From the Elite Thugsrock himself:

Kingston Hyper-X or Corsair XMS

BTW, I was in the same boat, but will get XMS3200C from newegg, only $110 for 512mb!

the higher end geil products are very good quality. esp w/ winbond
if your going with geil get their platinum or ultra platinum cas2 series and you will be fine.

lots of people use geil and twinmos, have you ever used them?
geil ultra platinum series is very high quality. with many ppl, first hand experience, getting 220+ easily with relativly high multi.
geil CAS 2 6-3-3 1T and usually considerably cheaper
corsair CAS 2-8-4-4-1T
yes corsair and hyperx is very good ram, but other brands should not be disregarded as inferior, especially considering many performance reviews

forget the preformace reviews ~ very few have been able to obtain those same results.

it comes down to this:
do you want XMS LL? or do you want the bargain ram? (not that there is anything wrong with bargain ram)

Hey! I'm using that Bargain Ram. After having a lot of trouble with Some Kingston pc2700 in my MSI Nforce2 board I decided to take a shot with the GeIL pc3200 dual channel kit. It has been working flawlessly for me. Can't speculate though on the high end for it though since my board only goes to 200mhz fsb.

Thugs. Have you used the GeIL ram?

I agree with Thugs but he is also very partial to XMS...Geil may be worth a shot, but there are a lot of good and bad reviews out there more bad than good by real people. If you want soemthing proven to be good get the XMS or if you don't have that money then get the HyperX...deal with companies that have proven reliability and support.

never have never will

After a comment like that, I don't think you should base your decision on anything Thugs has to say. I have a 256 MB stick of OCZ EL DDR 433 that will do DDR 440 at 2-6-3-3. Would probably go higher, but CPU says stop at 2.97 GHz. I would say give them a chance, you may be surprised.

Another thumbs up for OCZ EL DDR 433...very nice ram.
Can do 2-3-3-4 @450MHz easily on my bro's comp.

Lay off Thugs man, sheesh. He's got quite a lot of experience when it comes with motherboads, CPUs, and memory, so I would trust his decision. I for one, will never try GeIL memory either. After the burnings from OCZ I received, I'd rather not take the chance of getting burned with GeIL ram also. Corsair, Samsung, Kingston, and 5ns Winbond modules(including TwinMos), Crucial, amd Mushkin are all tried and true RAM. Meanwhile, the likes of OCZ and GeIL are traditionally a bit more on the shady side. You're a lot more likely to get sub-par performing RAM from those two companies then you are any of the previous ones I listed.

lol u can't even judge it if u haven't tried it. There have been great reviews for geil all over the internet. I see them as the next major ram company. You have to start somewhere right?

True, BUT I also heard that OCZ and Geil send "hand-picked" modules to these review sites... (also, if I remember correctly, don't Geil modules need 3.0v+ to really "shine"?? sorry, none of my boards go that high... ) If I'm going to spend my hard-earned money, I like to spend on "proven" stuff tested by my peers rather than reviewers who gets their stuff for free.. If a lot of guys come out and say Geil and OCZ are really that good AND backs it up, then I'll think about switching... but I'm not that brave just yet...

I'm not partial to XMS either, but my first hand experience tells me they're the best. I'm running Hyper-X's in my IC7 (Canterwood) right now, and I have 2x512MB Winbond BH-5 modules coming to me next week.

Hmm, so Corsair kicks butt and Geil sucks. Ok, pop quiz: Whose EL DDR 400 will not run on a SIS 655 board until you boot the computer with another kind of RAM and change it from using SPD timings? Hint: It's not Geil!
