I am building another DDR system and I am having a hard time choosing my ram. A year ago the best and cheapest bet was crucial PC-2100 as they worked like champs, but now Crucial does not offer anything over PC-2700 as you all know.

My current rig is an Abit KX7-333R, Alpha PAL 8045 w/delta 80cfm, Athlon AGOIA 1600+

So I need good ram to go along with it. But what ram do you guys prefer? Geil has good specs and price, but does it overclock well? Mushkin has ok specs, but I heard "they" are the overclocking chips these days.

Also....I am looking for a 512mb stick, so please keep that in mind, if it matters.

Geil=OCZ, ok?

Now, how about the Corsair CMX512?3200C2 or the TwinMOS PC3200? the Corsair has WinBond 6ns chips and the TwinMOS 5ns, they both doing 250MHz after a nice long burn in and "little" high voltage with no problems and stable as a rock.

I generally prefer Samsung if you can find them, they tend to be out of stock a lot. I've had excellent results overclocking these babies, when I can't find Samsung, I usually go with Mushkin or even *cough* Kingston in a pinch.

I don't understand the excitment about Geil and Mushkin, both are not producing any RAM. They buy the modules and plugg them into
PCB, that's all. And only the RAM modules determine the quality. Mushkin is using (not sure) DDR 400 from Winbond with the BH 5 ns modules. These are the best modules currently in the market. They work with all chipset and boards.

All I have to say is that Geil is crap... Tried a couple of them that couldnt run worth a crap. I am using the Corsair XMS 3200C2 now and I am very happy, well not as happy as I will be when I get my Abit IT7-Max2 board this week...

I tried my friends GEIL PC3500 stick, sorry to say, but it wasn't very impressive at all... I got more out of a Mushkin stick..
Corsair XMS3200c2 is still the very best overclockability and stability.. AWSOME ram!

one thing...the PCB can make all the difference in the world on how well a good chip performs
that's how the mushkin guys make their living, by producing PCB's that far exceed the specifications...in other words, they are tweaking the PCB so that you can get the most out of the memory chips...make sense?

That link wont work for me since i have to register to view it. And i have to give a valid (ie not free) email address to register. And the only non-free email i got is that of my office, and the only place that i have used it is anandtech. And i dont want to give it out on the internet anywhere else.
