I kind of felt like a creeper watching that lol

but man, that game looks fun!

Right? Her immersion in creeping around in the game was practically oozing to the point you can't help but feel like a creeper watching her play.

VR is amazing.

And they said VR was going to be a gimmick. Maybe it's just a fad like Wii was.

I got 5/9-5/19

It's not too bad, but have to say I'm a bit disappointed. I'm usually patient, but I haven't been this excited about anything tech in a long time. This means I'll be getting the Rift and Vive about the same time. :/

I'm hoping that someone releases a wider field of view, like the StarVR. The problem they have is resolution and current graphics technology. It is at 5120x1440 resolution vs 2160x1200 for the Rift and Vive, but that means the computer also needs to push almost 3x as many pixels (7,372,800 vs 2,592,000). And that is just not really possible with current graphics cards, and I suspect not even possible until the next-next-gen cards (i.e. the ones this summer/winter are not going to be 3x faster than current top of the line cards, so without SLI, there is no way a single card will be up to the challenge for another 2-3 years).

My Oculus ship date is now a month later than expected:

Estimated ship date 6/20 - 6/30.

I'm actually glad about this, because I wanted to get a Pascal GPU for extra future-proofing & didn't want to have the headset sitting in a box for a month or two until the new video cards started shipping. Although right now, the Rift CV1 is going for over a grand on eBay, so if I flip it, the profit would easily pay for a base GTX970. Based on reviews, the Vive is probably the one I'll end up keeping. Speaking of the Vive, the ship date is weird on that too:

Thank you for your HTCVIVE.com order – We will start shipping May 2016. Your pre-order's estimated arrival will be based from the date you receive your shipping notification. You will be receiving a notification once your product has been shipped with a tracking number for your convenience. Please note that your shipment will require a signature upon arrival from the person who placed the order to ensure a safe and secure delivery of your new HTC Vive product.

So:

1. Vive starts shipping in May
2. My pre-order ship date is based on the date I got the shipping notification...which means what exactly?
3. I'll get a notification that my order shipped...so...when does that $881.65 hit my card??
4. I have to be home to sign & can't have someone else sign?? I work like 70 hours a week & I'm on the road constantly, so that's going to be pretty annoying. I'd imagine people who

I don't mind the delays - it's a new product that is in high demand. What I do mind is not being told when I'm going to get charged (not sure about anyone else, but I don't usually keep eight hundred bucks just lying around) & having to be home to sign for it...I mean, I can arrange for someone else to be there because I understand why you'd want a signature on an expensive product, but it's pretty lame that only the person who ordered it can sign for it. The cost of modern VR! #firstworldproblems

1.) You're in the May batch. You'll see it ship sometime in May.

2.) You'll receive a notification when it actually ships and that indicates its estimated arrival.

3.) You'll receive an email that they will be charging you sometime before so you can notify your financial institution and prevent a repeat of the mass denials they saw last weekend.

4.) It doesn't have to be you, just someone at your address. They're using direct signature service by FedEx in the US. You can look up the requirements on FedEx's website.

And conspiracy theories abound about Oculus:

I'm at the end of May now. I was supposed to be April ship. I'm thinking I'll probably cancel. I'll give it some thought.

HUGELY disappointing if you realize you can't do anything like shown in the video with the Rift, at least at this point, due to no motion controllers.

Edit: Thinking about this...makes the Rift actually look like crap.

That's been a lot of people's take, but as we've seen on here not everyone is looking for room-scale. Though, if a seated experience is what you want, the Vive can deliver both. It's just more expensive if you have no intentions of using the motion controllers (but, c'mon, who wouldn't want to when you have it?).

Saw this today. Thoughts from one of the lead engineers who developed the Vive/SteamVR on the Oculus Rift. There is a serious potential for bias there, but he makes good points. He has (had?) a Rift on preorder.

Edit: Taking another look at the above video, y'know for science, anyone concerned about "but teh cordz!!" should check out this timestamp. She handles it like a baws. You're saying you can't do as good as her?

It's not so much about "room scale", as the video clearly shows. She is not walking about much in the room really, but at least she can actually interact with the 3D space w/ the controllers. Watch when she throws whatever at that boss. Or when she wipes the stuff from the shelves, or picks something up. And now realize the Rift (right now!) can't do any of that. It can only "simulate" this with a static Xbox controller.

Uh..this kind of stuff is the not knowing what you are talking about that is BS and causes controversy due to misconstrued information. You CAN do exactly what is shown in that video on the Rift with what is shipped now. The big difference is the 'leap' around that she's doing which can be done with any controller because it's a push button movement, not motion controlled. There are a few things she does that are motion controlled, but the vast majority of what she is doing can be accomplished on both devices right now.

I will find the videos of room scale Rift with 1 camera.

Also, that video was not at all showcasing the Vive. That guy had ulterior motives.

So you can "throw" something on the Rift like she does? How should that work with an Xbox controller?

You aim with the motion controls, which involves leaning them around a corner without moving your head around; the button only initiates the portal. You throw knives with the motion controls; the trigger only releases them when you say so they arc a particular way, but they're thrown by motion predominantly. You grab and drag fallen enemies with the motion controllers. Etc

You'd lose a lot of the essence of the game if you started to bind those finctions to a gamepad.

I mean, now looking at the video, as un-representative the video might be, those things might APPEAR subtle. But I think it's those things like being able to interact in 3D with your hands which ultimately would make a true/better experience.

I am not trolling, in fact I am still unsure about Rift/Vive....

I know that the Rift will soon have controllers too, but here my concerns:

- I heard about that the rift controllers will use CPU power, would like to know how significant this is compared to the Vive.

- Software devs for the Rift *possibly* treating the motion controllers as optional and "not so important", means we'd see less titles on the Rift who make use of them while it would be standard on the Vive with more titles that allow actual 3D interaction.

By the way..roomscale..whatever...but I can see it somehow possible to play a shooter even seated...HOWEVER being able to do things like holding a gun etc. and use it, without the requirement to really "walk about" a room.

Imagine the difference in experience playing a shooter where you actually hold a gun, target, shoot, throw, whatever. Interacting with stuff..that's huge.

As for now I am strongly tending towards the Vive but I would not make a decision until the Rift with controllers is out, to see whether there is any difference in how the two systems handle things.
