The Vive has a 3.5mm headphone jack onboard, so no need to run another wire. I use wireless and am totally happy with that.

Wow, that's news to me. I remember this video of a guy who had to plug in his headset to his PC, unless of course he'd use a wireless headset. But thinking about it, he might NOT have demoed the final version of the vive

So the Vive HAS a jack where you can simply plug-in some headphones?

Where does the "wireless" come in there? Sorry I didn't get that.
Or do you mean you're using a normal, wireless headset rather than plug in headphones into the jack of the vive?

Indeed it does. There's a pigtail coming out the back of the headset harness.

Just saying that mine plug into my computer wirelessly, so I bypass the issue altogether.

Vr is legit going to kill people from heart attacks.

Lol I thought the same thing when I saw that. There is also some game where enemies sneak up on you and you turn around and they are there... My heart is ok (I hope...) but I suffer anxiety so I am not sure I could even handle some VR games! I really want to try though

One of my nightmares, HEIGHTS. Not in a plane tho for some reason.. But the idea of being on a high-rise or a ledge or ANYWHERE where one could fall. It makes me sweat and extremely uncomfortable just thinking about it.

I always wondered how this will be in VR when your "logic" tells you nothing can happen.

Ah..and..showing another example of something the Rift could never do, am I right?

Any cliffs why they think "VR is bad"?

From what I see, they are running demos and some of them have AWFUL graphics, on the level of HL2, if not worse.

I guess this is because devs are coding for max. FPS and smoothness for VR...but then the entire rendering is just awful? Or they just ignore the rendering aspect in general and have more a priority on the 3D environment "because it's VR". You understand what I am saying?

Those aren't demos those are the games..which amount to pretty much demos. If you watch it, they tell how much they cost (which is pretty expensive overall, but expected being new tech/early adopter).

Rift has much more polished traditional games (given no touch at the moment). However, even saying that, most of it still seems pricey for what you get. On both ends, most of it is nothing more than tech demos.

It's a funny thing at first because you really have to fight your brain, even for games with really simple graphics. For me, it snapped pretty quickly & doesn't bother me at all now, but I also grew up doing a lot of CGI & video projects, so I'm kind of used to how 3D & stuff works mentally. But sometimes stuff will still get me, like the first time I watched the new hot-air balloon ride video on MilkVR, your brain kicks in that "ahhh!" moment for a split-second

nobody is spending money on vr games because the install base is shit. Its gonna be a minute before we get into the good shit.

If you ever get the chance, check out "Agent Omega" - you get to fly a jetpack around an island & can land and jump off buildings and stuff. One of the few games that can make me feel a bit quesy at times

That's really my only problem with the GearVR...it's amazing technology, but the content is lacking (and what is there is expensive), but that is to be expected for early-adopter technologies. I'd really like Adventure Time to be a full 20-level game, but it only has like 3 levels iirc. Just gotta hang tight for more stuff to come out!

I always worried that this might kill VR before it even begins. It is totally catch 22, because the majority of people are not going to want VR until there are some killer games. And nobody is going to develop killer games when there is only a small number of potential customers. And of course the early VR adopters are split already into 2 camps which is really bad.

I hope it can catch on though. I assume it is great for all the little indie devs around these days, because they are the only ones who can afford to make small games for a small audience and still make it pay off.

Well, I canceled the pre-order for my Rift CV1 today. Going with a SubPac & Vive setup instead, along with my existing Sennheiser HD-280 headphones & a cheap Leap Motion I picked up used. The universal mount for the Leap is on pre-order for $20: (curved mount, 3M adhesive, and 15' USB cable for Room VR)

http://store-us.leapmotion.com/products/universal-vr-mount-pre-order

The Revive Injector project just added support for Oculus Touch and Oculus Remote using the Vive controllers, so along with support for Oculus games like Lucky's Tail, I see no reason to stick with the Rift at this point: (especially since mine got pushed back to the end of June)

https://github.com/LibreVR/Revive/releases/tag/0.4

The only thing that the Oculus really has in its favor right now is better comfort (from what I've read). I haven't gotten an exact ship date from HTC, other than "we start shipping in May". I'm in no rush because I'd really like to get a Pascal GPU, although I'm strongly considering a laptop because I like to travel with my Gear VR & I'd really like to see what the user sees on-screen. No way I'm paying $2800+ for a GTX980 laptop tho, haha! Especially since they're not out until July anyway.

You might regret cancelling that Rift.

I am lucky enough to have both and imo the Rift is the better HMD. Not only is it far more comfortable, but it has a very large "sweet spot". The overall display is a lot sharper in comparison to the Vive. No matter how I adjust the Vive, the areas outside of it's sweet spot are a blur. On the Rift it's hard to even identify where the blur begins because it's so minor.

I absolutely love the room-scale and motion controls and it has totally blown me away unlike anything the Rift has offered yet. But the Vive content is lacking. There are some amazing Vive games available now but they are extremely short or simply endless/wave based that I get bored of after a couple hours in total. I really hope it doesn't get too much shelf time waiting for content. Everything right now that has long playability is seated and in that situation the Rift wins by a long shot.

Hmm, good to know. Do you play them off the same computer, no issues?

So, I gave up on my stipulation of trying to force myself to finish my house's wiring (been having some issues drilling the hole to go between the first and second stories) before I'd setup the Vive. I have an extra PC lying around (equipped with an i7-4770k), and I had a friend convince me to just buy a GTX 980 Ti. I figure that I SHOULD be able to get in on EVGA's Step Up program if Pascal comes out when they say it will, but if not... oh well!

I'm setting it up in one of my spare rooms, and fortunately, the closet is the perfect size to put the computer and such. So, it will be out of the way, which gives me the most room for the room scale entertainment. Now, I just need to go to Staples tonight to buy a small, generic desk that fits right inside the closet's opening.

In other words, I still haven't tried it out yet.

Works fine. If I leave both plugged in then SteamVR seems to have a problem deciding which one to use and shows only one lighthouse and one constellation, so I generally just leave 1 plugged in at a time (HDMI only, leaving the USB connected seems to cause no problem)

No way that's reasonable for a laptop anymore. I'd say the Razer blade with external GPU is the way to go. But I did a build in a Corsair 380t case for VR. It's not perfect but you can carry it.

Yeah. $1000 for the 128gb QHD Razer Blade Stealth:

http://www.razerzone.com/gaming-systems/razer-blade-stealth

$400 for the Razer Core: ($100 discount if you buy it with a Stealth)

http://www.razerzone.com/store/razer-core

$315 for a 4GB GTX970:

http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce-Quieter-Graphics-04G-P4-2974-KR/dp/B00NVODXR4

$1715 seems like the best deal you're going to get for a laptop & GPU for VR. Plus you can upgrade to Pascal later simply by swapping out the GPU & reselling the GTX970, which is nice. Stupid expensive cutting edge technology!
