We should form some play groups for stuff like Battle Dome & QuiVR. It's actually pretty fun talking to people on the Vive, the audio is remarkably clear without having to do any effort on tweaking the input levels or anything.

Haven't tried Battle Dome yet, but QuiVR rocks.

I'm trying to figure out Holopoint. I start the game, i shoot two targets, and rinse and repeat. HTF do I advance forward in this game?

Holy crap. I cannot believe that this thing is tracking my headset and camera in a completely separate room.

Computer desk/monitors is in room #1. The next room over is room #2 and it is an empty space with my two base stations covering the entire floor area.

Went to play one of my favorite games (Luck's Tale), and it completely tracked my headset, and tracked the Vive controllers.

So now I can play desktop/seated games at my desk and if I need to play room scale games I just pop over to the next room and i'm all set.

This really exceeded my expectations.

Basically, elements in the game change: you start out with one box that explodes. Then the box shoots back at you. Then there are two boxes that shoot back at you. Then the boxes go on a timer & turn pink and auto-explode at you. Then there are boxes behind you. So now you have boxes on the floor & on the second floor all around you on countdown timers to shoot at you. Then the ninjas come

I haven't read this entire thread, but is there a VR for FS2004? I don't play FSX, although I have it, but my FS2004 is my main sim weighing in at about 55GB.

Wait. So was I supposed to dodge the shrapnel coming from those boxes after I shoot them?

LOL. I was about to uninstall this game. I'll try it again after my shoulder heals up. I can barely move it for some odd reason.

Why don't you play FSX? Just curious about that.

I used to fly Flight Sim regularly. It sucks that MS stopped making it. If FS2004 is better than X then I might have to dust my copy off.

I'd love to see a Flight Sim in full VR.

Anyone else have fans setup in their VR room? Really adds to the experience and keeps you cool.

Correct, the first boxes you shoot simply explode. The next boxes shoot back at you, so you either have to dodge or duck. Then the boxes do a color-changing countdown & auto-explode and THEN shoot at you. Then they start showing up behind you...then two at a time...then the pace goes up...then ninjas & samurai holographic warriors show up. I don't know how many levels there are, but there are at least 50 or 60.

The game only gets fun if you let yourself get into it. You get kind of a dance rhythm going between the music, the shooting, and the weaving away from getting shot. If you end up liking it, try getting some wrist weights to make it a bit harder, that's what I use with Holopoint & Audioshield. Both are pretty basic games in terms of gameplay, but it's almost a bit like running or jogging where you can kind of turn off your brain & just enjoy the movement for awhile. Kind of a zone-out & have fun type of game rather than a thinking game. Even though Holopoint is pretty basic, I play it just about every day as part of my morning cardio routine now.

Yup! And if I'm doing movement-intensive games, I wear a Training Mask (restricts breathing) & 3-pound wrist weights, as well as my 5-pound Subpac subwoofer backpack (adds 16 pounds of weight total, plus the tactile sub gives you a nice kick in the back). That's overboard for most people, but I've pretty much only been doing exercise in VR for the past month or so because it's so much fun between games like AudioShield, Holopoint, and my Virzoom VR bike.

I ordered a pair of the VR Lenses today, and goodness... if you're worried about the initial cost of VR, just wait until you start getting all that extra stuff. The lenses (without Blueguard VR) ended up being about $83. I think it will be worth it since it's so uncomfortable for me to wear glasses with the Vive. Honestly, it's one of the reasons why I almost never use the device as it gets painful after a while. Although, that may not affect most people as I seem to have a big head. To give you an idea, my IPD is 173.3, which is only 2 below the max of 175!

I've actually been considering a HOTAS setup for Elite: Dangerous & would really like an awesome flight sim. DCS World, AeroFly, & as Mutilator mentioned FlyInside for FSX/P3D are the big ones that I'm aware of. Downside is the games are pricey (well, DLC's on DCS at least...$700+ for everything rofl) AND the hardware is pricey, and I don't feel like anything is really specifically designed for the Vive yet, you know? If I'm going to pay the money, I wanted tailored experiences. Like I mentioned with Adr1ft, it's really cool in VR, but you can tell that the Vive support they tacked on is just a little tiny bit off because it wasn't originally designed for it (it's good, just not...100% perfect with the controls).

I also thought about getting a steering wheel, shifter, and pedals for some racecar action, just lightweight stuff, but dang, the high-end Logitech setup is like $400! (plus another $60 for a shifter, plus each of the race sim games are $$$) Granted, the hardware is crazy-good now with motors & 900-degree steering & whatnot, but dang!

I still need to find out my eye details. I don't wear my glasses with the Vive because they are too large to fit.

Are the lenses easy to attach or are they a chore? I share my headset with family & friends who come over so I think it's better to have the stock lenses in there most of the time for maximum compatibility.

Elite is pretty fun in VR. I do recommend Voice Attack with one of the HCS packs to go with it.

One thing that made me do a few double-takes is that my prescription uses the old nomenclature of "OD" and "OS", and the VR Lens site uses right and left respectively. The last thing I want to do is get my prescription mixed up!

I read that it isn't too hard to attach them. I think I read that it was maybe a two minute process? You may also want to consider ordering some non-prescription VR Lenses simply to protect your Vive's built-in lenses. The only thing that might be a pain is that their FAQ says that you shouldn't adjust the IPD with the lenses attached, which means it will take longer to swap between people.

anyone get VR blindness after using the HMD for a while?

LOL. when I first started I played for like 3-4 hours straight, when i took the HMD off and blinked, I saw a ghosting like effect from the HMD screen during each blink.

Is there a negative effect on the eyes from using VR?

Does Elite play without any issues for you in VR? I have a nagging issue where my video card goes into sleep mode when trying to play Elite or Space Rift in VR.

I think most of it is in your head. Getting disoriented when you're reaching for a real object after a long stint in VR - those who have experienced that will know what I'm talking about. Also, you'll retain some of the screen-door effect or the chaperone grids for a while, hours or even days later. I think it's your brain remembering the visuals rather than retinal "burn-in".

I also feel that the peripheral distortion around the edges of the lens causes some amount of eye fatigue.

As long as you're not an 8 year old with still-developing eyes, you should be fine. My non-opthalmologist opinion, of course.

If you want another flight sim to try out in VR you can play War Thunder. I didn't feel too good the first time I used it with mouse + KB but the second time around I was on Teamspeak and using a joystick... that was an amazing experience. Personally I'll probably just stick to my 34" monitor + TrackIR when I play that but it was realistic to the point where when I rolled out of a bank after a dogfight I busted out laughing because I damn near threw myself out of my chair. I'm use to how things feel when flying a real plane so my body naturally tried to compensate.

Whoa, was not familiar with HCS packs, COOL!

http://www.hcsvoicepacks.com/

We have a selection of official celebrity voice response packs to choose from. Most of which are professionally voiced by classic SciFi legends from Red Dwarf, Star Trek, Doctor Who, Flash Gordon, Blake's 7, Star Wars and others.

William Shatner, Tom Baker, Brent Spiner, Paul Darrow, Norman Lovett, Brian Blessed, Silvia McClure, Hatty Hayridge, KSi and more...

The packs are designed for use with or without Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, although it is the BEST all round experience with a virtual reality headset.

All voice packs have 1000 + command responses, some have additional educational information in the form of the "GalaXapediA, Constellations & Quantum Theory" facts.

Other sci-fi genre related stuff from your favourite movies or tv episodes can alsobe found within the packs.

I'm thinking about it, but I have a really low drop ceiling & keep hitting my hand on it when playing stuff like Racket NX.

Hmm, maybe I'll just order a second set of smaller glasses from one of those $39 stores online...
