Might be a bit off topic, but this is still hardware related so....

Last nite my genius son put his gameboy color in the microwave for about 3 seconds. He said it was cold, so he wanted to warm it up!! It wont work any longer DOH! Is it totally fried or can it be saved?

BTW the game cartridge still works fine. Tested it out in the other son's gb color. It just had it's saved games wiped out.

Thanks

He's probably at least fried the screen, I somehow doubt that LCD's like microwaves.

Ever seen what a microwave does to a CD? Open that biatch up you'll probably find something similar.

Yep, the Game Boy is dead. Probably prohibitively expensive to repair, may as well tell your son he has to find another toy. (By the way, don't get this kid a laptop any time soon.)

I have two young boys, so I feel your pain. :frown:

Isn't the new GameBoy Advance supposed to be out soon?

Get one of those, and then put a lock on the Microwave.

Throw one of those twist ties from the bread sack in your microwave oven and turn it on to get an idea of what happened to the Gameboy.

is that safe? sounds like fun BTW Gameboy advance is coming out in the next few months or so, so if I were you I'd just wait and buy a Gameboy Advance instead of getting another Gameboy Color.

<< He probably secretly wanted a Game Boy Advance >>

lol. you may have a genius son there after all.

SnoopCat,

I don't think it did warm up, but I was not there before it entered the microwave ...

he is 10 and actually quite smart. he regularly tests in the 98th percentile in the national standardized tests and is in the schools gifted program.

He felt real bad and I explained to him that most great discoveries where discovered by accidents similar to his.

<<BTW, what mirowave does to a CD?>>

CD's have metal in them. Microwave + Metal = Indoor Lightning. (And an altogether too high chance of a busted microwave.)

Glad to hear that he does feel badly about it. You might also want to start working real hard on the actions and consequences aspect of "great discoveries".

As a couple of others have noted, metal in a microwave is trouble. Ever seen one go up in flames, literally?

(Once long ago at work, someone tried to use one of those old-style JiffyPop popcorn containers [the aluminum ones] in a microwave. That much metal caused so much sparking that the inside plastics caught fire, which quickly spread to the outside. Fortunately, a fire extinguisher was readily available and someone had the sense to use it in a hurry. The fire department still had to come and help clear out the smoke - melting plastic is nasty stuff.)
