Besides, there are much better ways to insult others than to use profanity!

yea...instead of using profanity, just say something in the line of "your comp sucks. it cant even play HL1 on lowest video setting"

While I can't see myself ever doing this...why must everyone have such a thin skin these days? I can see how it can be offensive, but what's the point of life if we aren't ever pushed out of our comfort zone a little bit and have our feelings hurt? Surely you have enough self confidence to not be crushed by the mere words of your fellow man (or woman as it may be). Maybe in dealing with others you'll gain a new perspective on other people...or maybe you'll learn that many people are just asses in general. It's a private forum and I respect the decision, but I feel rather sorry for whoever had to go and ask for this protection.

Sorry, just throwing in my two cents.

Nobody asked for this protection, as you call it. Someone was observed calling another member a vulgar name for a female's genitals. Once more, that is unacceptable behavior here.

If all we do is to insult, for the most part, what is the point of trying to carry on conversations. The intelligence level goes down, on any forum, when flames are allowed to be fanned, and not controlled.

Plenty of people have been banned over the years for being nothing more than trolls, I never questioned that.

To the moderator: Fair enough. As I said, it's your discretion to moderate as you see fit.

I agree totally. Wouldn't it be great if we were an instrument of developing tact in the technical young ones that frequented our boards? Truly, it would be a service to not only the posterd, but also the potential (although not imminent) spouses of such techies.

Good move,

Gravity
Sadly, all it would do is cause those offenders to leave, and given the proportion of them in our user base, we'd be left with few meaningful posters.

Hostility, negative comments, immature attitudes will only get you so far, and things will never change unless we do something about it.

You've been here a few months? and you've hoped for this for a long time? oh wait you been here for years but just signed up a few months ago right?

That goes for a lot of forums, you spam, you troll, you're banned.

So we're still allowed to insult each other on this forum if the particular words we use have no sexual connotations?

No! Personal attacks are never tolerated.

Forgive me, mods, but that'll be the day...

If you mean to enforce this, then please do it (although I don't possibly see how you could given the sheer post volume of this board). But saying you will and then doing it inconsistently will just make everybody angry.

It is unacceptable and demeaning, not to mention that it sheds light on the absolute immaturity of the poster. Anyone using such words to any member will be banned hard...possibly forever. Don't test it. It's a "Fail Only" test.

Thank you for keeping this forum a reasonably decent place.

i've seen mods post under their regular accounts breaking this rule. why the double standard?
