George Lucas lied! There may be a third trilogy

gl has always said he never planned a third trilogy, but there is proof otherwise.

I was watching this movie Unauthorized Star Wars Story.I think it was made by the Star Wars Insider Magazine editor. They have a tv interview with Mark Hamill from around the jedi release. Hamill talks of a conversation he had with lucas, where lucas asked how would he like playng a kenobi type figure handing excaliber down to the next generation..
Hamill asked him when it would happen, Lucas replied " about 2011"

I think after lucas sees how easy and fast it is to shoot digitally he will change his mind. He said himself they can shoot 20-30 shots a day compared to 2-3 a day before. source

thats a long time ago, lucas has said in recent times that he would not be doing one.

Yeah the third trilogy was about the emperor, but after ESB(palpatine should not have been in ROTJ in the original scenario, to make him misterious and unknown for third trilogy) he realised it would take too much time or something and crammed it in ROTJ, where basically the meporer is introduced and killed in the second half of the movie.

i thought the third trilogy revolved around Leia.

ep 1-3 - Anakin Skywalker
ep 4-6 - Luke Skywalker
ep 7-9 - Leia Skywalker

I hear that Luke goes Darkside for a while and Leia pulls him out.

true but as I said Lucas was very pleased at how fast filming went, watch those making of videos at starwars.com, it shows lucas almost like a kid in a candy store, never seen him like that.

as far as the third trilogy being about the emporor, the question was posed to hamill after jedi was done so he must have more ideas.

As much as I'd love to see a third trilogy (well, assuming it didn't suck like Episode 1), I don't think it'll happen... first of all - there is wayyyy too much post ROTJ-fiction out there. That'd leave GL 2 choices:

1. Try to incorporate some of it, which means he's not using his ideas at all
2. Piss off a lot of people by simply blowing off whatever's been written & doing his own thing.

It's a lose-lose situation, imho. I'd like to see some books about what his original plan was, but... I just don't think the movie thing will happen...

OTOH - I can't *wait* for Ep3 - after Ep2, I recovered some faith in the SW magic

this is what Rick McCallum and george lucas planned before 1980, i don't know why he or others deny that there was to be a 3rd trilogy, there just isn't anymore:

EPISODE 1: Was to focus on the origins of the Jedi Knights and how they are initiated and trained
EPISODE 2: Introduction and development of Obi-Wan Kenobi
EPISODE 3: Introduction and life of Vader
EPISODE 4: There were seven different drafts of the film. At one point, they pursued buying the rights to Hidden Fortress because of the strong similarities. At one point, Luke was a female, Han was Luke's brother, Luke's father was the one in prison (interesting point for some debates) and the film featured 40 wookies
EPISODE 5: Once written, the screenplay of Empire is almost exactly what is seen on screen. The only cut scenes were those involving wampas in the rebel base (cut because of time and unsolved technical glitches) and about two minutes of Luke/Yoda Jedi training with no real dialog.
EPISODE 6: Leia was to be elected "Queen of her people" leaving her isolated. Han was to die. Luke confronted Vader and went on with his life alone. Leia was not to be Luke's sister.
EPISODE 7: Third trilogy was to focus on Luke's life as a Jedi, with very few details planned out.
EPISODE 8: Luke's sister (not Leia) appears from another part of the galaxy.
EPISODE 9: First appearance of the Emperor.

and the first 3 eps were about obiwan orginally, not anakin, and return of the jedi is really eps 6-9 condensed now.

And for the record I thought PM and Clones were both entertaining just not particularly good. There is no reason to believe Lucas will return to making good movies so why on earth would I want another trilogy?

normajean: to be more specific, that is what rick told some old magazine, so i guess he didn't plan it like i typed. i don't think rick came alone til empire. he said that is what george lucas originally planned and george showed him some book of notes he had. this was posted on theforce.net news page in 1999 from some old magazine interview and i saved it. it also sounds very similar to a los angelos times mewspaper article my dad read to me around 1983, i wish he saved it.
