whats the backlash on Red tails? the Tuskegee airmen were amazing and it is a story worth telling.

I've seen the trailer for it, looks pretty entertaining. I saw an interview with terrance howard and he was saying it's pretty much an action movie using the tuskegee airmen, not a civil rights movie like the original "tuskegee airmen".

I'll probably still watch it, i'm a sucker for action and good surround sound.

SO my Niece and Nephew are 5 and 3 and have watched starwars. they love the og 3 but HATE TPM, thr 5 year old cant stand any scene with jar jar

kid friendly my ass

My 4 year old has seen episodes 1, 4, 5 and 6 and probably loves 1 the most. Jar Jar notwithstanding, episode 1 has lots of action: light saber battles, dogfights in space and pod racing. Plus Anakin is likable/identifiable to a little kid. I'm not a huge fan of episode 1, but I think it clicks with kids on a number of levels, and it certainly helped introduce the Star Wars universe to a whole new generation.

This. They were good entertainment at the very least, minus the romance scenes (cringed at every one). Honestly my share of Lucas-hate comes from the bastardization of the original trilogy.

I'll be glad if he finally retires. To me, he always appeared to be a jerk. I think he's been EXTREMELY fortunate to have very talented people around him at key times.

I heard a piece about it on the radio this morning, and it sounded like something I'd be interested in.

So, whenever a black guy stars in a white guys's film....it's exploiting????

WTF?

I'll see Red Tails. Sounds like fun.
Preachy movies aren't needed anymore in today's age. Sounds like Red Tails sidesteps as much as one can.

Waggy, its not really backlash. The issue was getting the movie made. Hollywood just will not fund an expensive movie with a mostly all black cast. Heck they rarely fund any movie with a mostly/all black cast. Most movies with mostly black casts are paid for by the small studio who is producing it(typically owned by someone like Tyler Perry, Spike Lee, etc).

It has got a lot of bad reviews for just being a pure action flick. But it being an action flick is not why Hollywood wouldn't pay for it to be made.

I thought the original trilogy was kid-friendly enough. Okay, so there were a few violent scenes (the bloody arm in the cantina was probably the worst) but it wasn't too over the top. I mean, it was still a PG movie.

Jar-Jar was an insult to the intelligence of the younger viewers. You don't have to stick a stupid comic relief "mascot" character in for children to enjoy the movie. I grew up watching the original Star Wars movies on VHS and loved them from an early age. What's especially stupid is that you've got Jar-Jar, who was obviously meant solely to make young children laugh and to sell toys, but then you have a ridiculously convoluted and frankly nonsensical plot about trade rights and political intrigue, and every scene is contrived and doesn't tie into anything. I certainly didn't understand it at age 15 when I went to see Episode I in the theater.

I think the problem is there were no interesting characters in the prequels. Obi-Wan was probably the most interesting but that's not saying much.

Disney, Glory Road?

You're confused. The movie was about a white coach starting 5 black players in a basketball game. The lead actor in that movie was a white guy, the movie also had a mostly white case. Also IIRC the movie was more about/revoled around the coach than the actual team. It also had a $15million budget.

And Hollywood has a reason. Mostly/all black casted movies do next to nothing in foreign markets.

Waggy and all the others wondering about the production of Red Tails, should watch this interview wit Lucas on The Daily Show from last week.

I would also suggest that if any of you haven't watch RedLetterMedia's review on the 4th Indiana Jones movie, I highly suggest watching it. I agree more with their assesment that Lucas, not Spielberg, is the reason that movie got made and why it was so horrible, unlike what the South Park fellas would have you think. Spielberg actually makes REALLY good movies, where Lucas got lucky with one franchise and now he's a pioneer of the film industry.

It's simple, give Star Wars fans the original trilogy in 16:9 theatrical release (Blu-ray) and we'll get off his back. He can do whatever he wants to the other crappy trilogy.

Best movie he ever put out was American Graffiti - a masterpiece and launched so many careers.

Genius when young now we get formulatiic garbage because the youth of America love their chop/cut fast edits and complete lack of intelligent dialog/writing.

Meh, in all likelihood when the next format comes out in a few years he'll come out of retirement for a few days to make some "essential edits".

The stormtroopers will all be holding walkie talkies instead of blasters?

honestly, i think he could only go out on a low. his focus on the business of art has cost him any integrity as an artist decades ago. to illustrate this point, here's an interview from the rain delay of the 2011 canadian grand prix.

when asked about making a formula 1 movie, george says:
"generally speaking, films about sports don't work. people like to see the real thing."

by "work" he means "make more money for me than where i took it from."

meanwhile, senna was among the very highest-regarded movies last year. ron howard's rush is filming at germany's nurburgring this very week.

To be fair... I think he meant you couldn't do the Hollywood treatment on racing movies without making you gag. *cough* Driven *cough* Le Mans and Grand Prix exempted (which are 40 years old btw), the only other films about racing that have been noteworthy of late are documentaries (Senna, Faster 1 & 2, Love the Beast, etc.) because they present the 'real thing'.

Meh, as a kid I thought Jar-Jar was hilarious, and that's whom he was marketed to. Lucas has openly stated his desire to make Star Wars more kid-oriented. IIRC that was one of his stated motivations for making Greedo shoot first.

I just hope whomever takes over Lucas's role wises up and releases an unaltered original cut on blu-ray, but that's probably wishful thinking.
Lucas is a retard. He likely can't remember his own childhood and he should be kept away from children. He's that bad.

When I was a kid, my favorite movies were filled with swearing and violence. I thought Total Recall was a nice fun adventure film. I didn't really get what was going on, but I still liked watching it. As I get older, I like the film more as it seems a lot more complex. I liked Robocop like that too. Simple movie as a kid, but it seems more complex and emotional with age.
Movies like the Star Wars prequels are the exact opposite of this. They look flashy and interesting but then you get older and realize they're just a jumbled mess of crap.

The prequels were a lazy attempt to cash in on the success of the original trilogy. Lucas may have been a visionary 35 years ago. He's mainly a special effects artist. ILM's contribution to filmmaking has been massive. However, he's not a good storyteller. I think he gets far too much credit for creating Star Wars. Filmmaking is a collaborative effort. Back then he had people to flesh out the story, create visuals, add an acting dimsneion, and most importantly, question him creatively.

Today he's just a businessman. Which is okay. However, he's become another Michael Bay. I'm thinking Red Tails has become his Pearl Harbor. That's why he's leaving. He knows it.

This.

I don't mind him releasing the Special Editions (I can choose to ignore them), but he should also release the Originals as well.
