"A gun used to shoot dead unarmed Florida teenager Trayvon Martin is to be auctioned by the man who shot him, George Zimmerman.

Mr Zimmerman, a neighbourhood watchman, was cleared over the death of the 17-year-old in February 2012 after saying he acted in self-defence.

He said he was selling the gun partly to raise funds to fight "Hillary Clinton's anti-firearm rhetoric".

The Martin family would not "comment on the actions of that person", they said."

I still think the acquittal was the right outcome but JFC does he have a way of making himself look like an asshole. I'm sure this has ruined his life, and I'm sure he has massive bills to pay and likely no real income. But is the $5k or whatever he gets really worth pissing off the entire world again?

When the President of the United States goes out of his way to have someone charged with murder and they are then found not guilty, chances are good that they are not guilty.

I don't understand why Zimmerman keeps throwing gasoline on the situation. If I were in his shoes, I would avoid all attention for the rest of my life.

Not that it matters much considering the whole "Not guilty" verdict wich is really the only thing that matters.

It shouldn't have even gone to trial in the first place. The "didn't do nuffin" crowd and the race baiting agenda driven media forced it to go to trial. And of course, he was found not guilty due to the overwhelming evidence he was defending himself, but the media continued to fan the flames and continued to portray him as an evil racist monster hell bent on killing innocent school children.

George Zimmerman, although not the smartest guy in the world, has been under the microscope even since this event was reported. Every move of his has been scutenized to the highest degree. The only reason this auction is getting attention is because people still think TM was some little innocent kid that was gunned down in cold blood. If this was the gun of person that shot a known serial killed, this wouldn't have the same vibe.

The TM family doesn't have any comment? Who gives a shit? They should be reflecting on how they screwed up as parents that put their son in that situation.

See, that's where I see things differently.

I don't buy the idea that zim 'hunted down' trayvon; in fact, the most logical story to me (as well as what the court seemed to find) is that trayvon didn't like being followed and decided to 'teach zim a lesson' by confronting zim. I firmly believe Trayvon initiated the confrontation and likely did so in the form of a sucker punch.

Maybe it's because I'm from St. Louis and I have first hand experience about how crazy the young black inner city youth are, but the idea that trayvon attacked zim is far more plausible to me, especially given Trayvon's history. He was a young thug punk that liked to fight. Zim didn't like to fight because he was a pussy, and that's why he was armed.

All facts point to both guys being assholes, but Trayvon being the far bigger asshole. Trayvon was easily the stronger dude (athletically), too.

My takeaway from this case is young, unchecked black wanna be thug attacked the neighborhood patrol guy and got shot because of it. /story
