Berlin, Germany, Oct. 13 (UPI) -- Germany has indicated it would possibly send troops to Iraq if Democrat Sen. John Kerry is elected U.S. president, the Financial Times said Wednesday.

Defense Minister Peter Struck said the German government welcomed Kerry's proposal to convene an international conference on Iraq including countries that opposed the war if he were to win next month's election.

Struck said it was "a very sensible proposal," and because of responsibilities Germany has taken on in Iraq, "would naturally justify our involvement in such a conference."

Berlin is providing financial assistance to Iraq and training Iraqi troops and police officers in the United Arab Emirates. It also announced last month a shipment of 20 armored vehicles to the Iraqi military, as part of Berlin's increased involvement in NATO-led reconstruction efforts there.

While Berlin has refused to comment on the outcome of the U.S. election, the newspaper said Struck's comments are significant as Kerry said he would try to draw in countries to work in Iraq that opposed the war, such as Germany and France.

I'm not to thrilled about other countries making statements in the media about one candidate or the other like this. If?? then we will?.. seems a bit biased, but on the other side it helps Kerrry.

It goes to other countries not wanting to be aligned with Bush's policies. It isn't gool local politics to be associated with a madman.

LoL!! So people were asking which countries might join? They just got an answer. If this get's enough media coverage I am sure it will turn the tide. Especially Bush constantly saying that meetings don't accomplish anything and here we have Germany saying it would be "a very sensible proposal" and they might join in. Wow!

well if you had any argument of substance I would have replied with substance, but as you again demonstrate, "garbage in, garbage out".

They should be biased. Considering the way in which Bush stepped in their faces, they have every right to want him out.

So you'd rather have another nation not helping the global cause because of someone in power d!cked them over? Wouldn't you prefer other nations to help us because they don't have a problem with our would be new leadership?

I dont understand why Kerry would want germany to join us in Iraq and Australia to pull out? Is it just the socialists he wants to partner with?

Perhaps they'd rather not condone by association the actions of our sitting President.

(and I do mean sitting. )

I would just rather that US choose its own leaders and not allow statements like what was said from Germany.

Here is my thinking on this: (FOR EXAMPLE) say that China decides that it endorses Bush, Japan Kerry, France Kerry... and on and on and on, who really has control over our elections? China says as long as Bush is in office we will not stop our trade relations with the US, Germany says we will help in Iraq only if Kerry is on office... and so on.. So we as voters are not voting on a viable candidate, are voting on who has better allies with other countries, hence they start to dictate who we vote for and don't, putting us in a bad situation.

I realize that is general, its intended to be, what other things good or bad do people see about this? Could this be a snowball effect?

If there is one thing the Germans are good at, that is how to clean up a mess
