Yes they can..

They deduct it from your account and if enough isnt there you end up with a negative balance..

I got a $5 referral bonus, but I had to e-mail them because a few days passed without it. The e-mail worked well, got a response in a day or two saying they reviewed my account, saw I was due for the bonus, and would send it to me within 24 hours, which they did.

I signed up and used it to place a bid on an item I was already at the pc watching. Cell phone rang, I placed the next minimum bid and was then outbid(no biggie since I was watching anyway). I let the call play till the end of the auction. I did however win the auction by bidding myself via pc. I got the $10 today.

After listening to the call and hearing how it works, I can say that it will be useful for those items you really want, but can't be at the pc for. It's not as fast as being at the pc, but still useful.

I just signed up. I used it for an auction, I love the phone call thing. Makes sure I get the auction when I'm not at home (I was driving). I wish they coulda used a human voice for listing the phone options, since the synth voice was a little hard to understand the menu choices initially, but they have a listing of menu options on thier site if you need it.

Thier FAQ page says they have some sorta ebay certification, and that they make money with an affiliation with ebay where they get paid per bid from them. So thats why this is free to users.

Note: I had like 20 items being watched, I didn't want to get phone calls on all of them, so make sure you log in and pick which items you dont want to get phone calls on if you have a lot of them.

Anyway, this gets my thumbs up.

re: Sniping...I'm surprised everyone doesn't snipe now. But, I guess there's a lot of newbs who just don't know the concept. Honestly (and selfishly), I wish no one else knew about how to snipe. I've won many an auction that way.

Before I found out about it, I used to wonder how on earth people could successfully bid at the last possible second for my previously highest bid! It drove me nuts. I'd keep refreshing the auction page and watch the countdown clock. I'm winning at 10 seconds...I'm winning at 6 seconds, I'm winning at 4 seconds!, I lost?!?!?! I was sniped.

Sniping's a great buyer's tool all around. It helps keep down unnecessarily high (and dopey) bids. I can't tell you how many times I've wanted to bid on something and found that some jerk had made a bid higher than what the same item could be purchased for retail.

so now they'll give the user 10% back on any & all items won during the 1st 30 days? This might be good if one buy a lot of items (but only up to $250's worth). I wish I'd seen this post earlier as I TRY not to spend much on eb.
