Ninensei, Good job. The reason now i haven't get the laptop is that i still haven't figure out the UXGA. I saw the comparison on the website, and it was impressive, but i'm not sure if i will be using it. I will be doing mostly watching Movies, and playing games. Anyone has any comments? I am learning towards the 5000e. But i notice that they have that color pad which the 5000e doesn't. Correct me if i'm wrong.

Well, joined delltalk in dell's website today. There is bunch of issue complaining the mouse cursor noise in early Nov. Some people suggested it's related to SmartCPU. Did some one here notice this or just me? Did Dell fix this problem but sent me a unfixed one? This is really annoying. You get background sound, HDD sound, mouse cursor sound, and PC card sound(I am using wireless networking)....

Gonad, you really don't get any sound from earphone when you drag a window here and there? If so, I will report this as defective. Thanks.

The 4000 one. but I saw the complains covered 3800 through 7500. So I think it's a common problem.

Good news for those that ordered memory from Crucial Direct!

I just got my PC-100 SODIMM today and to my suprise the chips on it are actually PC133 parts! -75 B Although rated at PC133 CL3... these suckers should run at 133MHz CAS2 fine.

Hey Braxus--

How do I find out about my SODIMM? It arrived last Friday from Crucial, and the labels on the anti-static bag and on the SODIMM itself say PC100-222-620.

The chips temselves are covered up by the stickers, but from what I can make out one of them says

0038 4-2
MT 48LC8M16A2
TG -8E B

I'd appreciate it if anyone could help me ID it.

The thing that really gives you info on your stick is the text that's printed on the chips. For example mine is like this...

48LC8M16A2

then on the bottom right is where the most important info is:

-75 B

that number tells you the nanosecond rating... Which in this case is 7.5ns. Other popular parts from Micron are -8E which is 8ns and -7E which is 7ns. To find the maximum CAS3 Stock rating use the following formula

1000/x (where x is the ns rating)

Usually Micron parts have a higher tolerence though. Seen quite a few of 8E parts get past the rated 125MHz mark and run at 133@CAS2 fine (I have one )

You have -8E chips which is a PC100 CAS2 part. Guess they just started to ship the newer -75 units...

Are dead pixels just pixels that don't light up or ones that stay one color? (I guess technically one that doesn't light up is always black).

Well there are sorta few things that can qualify as dead pixels

completely dead pixels are ones that don't light up at all... partially dead ones are ones that may only display part of the colors (ie only a green pixel). And the most annoying.. stuck pixels which are pixels that may be stuck at a certain color (usually white). Stuck pixels can usually be fixed easily by adding some pressure to the affected area for couple of seconds.

I also got my rebate confirm! A nice $445.40 off $2,227.00.

Braxus, did you ever know dead half-pixels?
I kept eyes wide open staring at the LCD and finally found there is one spot(square) split into 2. One half is bright and will change color, the other one is always black. How to define this? Or we define the half-square as 1 pixel?

Gonad-- that's why today I cancelled the replacement request. Here is my story

Called 2:00pm, complaining 1 dead pixel and noisey earphone. The lady is too nice to promise a replacement immediately( , I was waiting for some accessory offer!)
4:00 called again to confirm replacement. got told that the replacement might interfere with rebate!(ridiculous, it's just replacement not return) The guy said since the replacement will involve another order number blah blah. Although it's not nessecarily the truth, I decided to not risk the rebate. Cancelled the request for now.

6:00pm, received the confirmation.
Still want to talk to them about this issue.

if you changed cfg, make sure the order number is same. If any person involved in modifying your order, I don't know if they will argue it's not an online order. If you still receive no email, you'd better call them.

Good luck to you

For those of you who received your confirmation from Dell, I'm glad to hear that - however several of us including myself haven't received it yet.

1) When did you order?
2) Which model Dell Dimension or Inspiron did you order?
3) When did your Dell ship?
4) If you ordered using your Hotmail e-mail address during the MSN Passport logon, was the confirmation sent to your Hotmail account?

Here's my info:
1) Ordered 11/28
2) Inspiron 4000
3) Shipped 11/30
4) N/A

Rossman,
1. Since you use MSN, you customer profile will be your hotmail profile as default. So you will receive the confirmation via hotmail. Hotmail sometime does delay. Thus you need to be patient for a while.

2. If you modified order after purchase, and what the CSR told me is true, I guess you need to worry about it. Seems dell's system is kinda stupid. When you modify order, they generate a new order for you and cancel the previous one. This is the case even for replacement! My feeling is don't let any HUMAN BEING invloved in this order to keep it a pure "ONLINE ORDER" through MSN Network.

3. I ordered I4K. But I don't think the rebate is model sensitive. However, I am not sure for those who ordered 3800 with 14'1 TFT. Seems only 3800 with 12"TFT was included in the offer.

Hope everyone work out.
