Well I e-mailed them so I guess I'll be the guinea pig. Basically here's what I wrote:

Hello. I ordered an Inspiron 8000 on Tuesday and noticed today that you have added an additional $50 off promotion. And, as far as I can see, this is the only promotional change that has been made since my order was placed. Is there a way I can take advantage of this new promotion as well and not put my Passport rebate in jeopardy? I made this order online, through MSN Passport, and have already recieved my e-mail confirmation for the rebate. I would just like an official word on this before any changes are made to my order. Thank you.

So hopefully I'll get a straight answer on this before anything is actually done. But surely they won't have to cancel & re-place my order or do anything else that might f*ck up my rebate just to make a billing change.

zeppelin - I wish I had a digital camera then I could take pictures of the Dell Nylon case but I am really happy with it. Offers plenty of padding and two velcro straps which keep the laptop in place. A nice small Dell logo which is barely visible which is nice and incognito. Plenty of inside and outside pockets for AC adapter, cables, peripherals, and a whole lot more. Unfortunately the case adds to the overall weight but you want your laptop to be both weather protected and padded which it appears to Dell nylon case does a great job. I was worried that it would be a cheap POS because I saw "nylon" but I think it'll take a beating and keep on ticking.

Dx-treme, Rossman stated he has s-video on his TV so that's why I suggested he get that cable.

John, actually I was just assuming that my 2000 Toshiba 27" Cinema Series has S-Video which I am about 99% sure of.

"If" it turns out not to have S-Video, then what are my other options?

I'm guessing that S-Video will give me the BEST quality video? I don't mind sound through the TV.

RossMAN, that's a pretty nice TV. You should have all the inputs covered with that- composite, S-Video and color component. The component inputs will give you the best image quality, but that's not an option if you are going to use the laptop. Use the S-video, that's going to be far superior to just a standard composite cable, which would be your only other option.

This really pisses me off(first post so be nice). For one thing dell delays my shipping date because they say they are short of P3 700 processors and now they reduce the price of the 8000 by 50 bucks. What should I do. I can cancel and get a nice case with that 50?

8000 P3 700 14.1
64MB
10GB
16MB Video
DVD

It was 2007 last week when I order and now its 1957.00.

loudmouth,
Just wait until Dell Shipped your notebook, do you know that Dell have 30 days pricing guarantee.
It means if you bought Dell system and within 30 days there is price reduce, you can call your sales rep. and ask for price reduction. But remember this only can be used once. So use it wisely.
I'll wait until day 25(from your invoice date) to check the price then if there is price reduction call your sales rep quickly.
Good Luck man ..

<< If I want to show DVD movies on my TV what kind of cable do I need to get from Radio Shack? My TV has RCA, S-Video and Composite jacks. >>

You sounded confident that your TV had s-video, so that's why I decided to recommend the s-video cable.

I have a simple request. If anyone received their i8000 already. Can you post Pics of this thing beside something that's familiar like a book perhaps?

The pictures on Dell's site just doesn't do it justice (they're either too small or too close-up'd). I've never owned a Lappy before and i really wanna know how big and/or beautiful this baby is.

By the way, just how heavy is 7lbs.?

Thanks to anyone who helps

RossMAN: I could've sworn my 4000 came with a video adapter cable. It was very short though, and you'd have to connect it to another cable.

The order in Video Quality is:

Component Video
S-Video
Composite Video (RCA)
RF

Texstar, What is a DC? Well, i would have to agree that Dell has performance power , but the touch pad alone is making me crazy. There is one odd thing that i notice, my laptop came with the battery charged, FULL! What did you guys have? My dell is a i8000 and 32 mb rage ati128 which allows me to play diable without any problems, and i like it to have a full screen feature when playing games. Well, there is a tool that i want to share. Dell has a command that can restore the unit to shipping time, and all you have to do is to boot the computer, and type zztop in c: .

Cool find WallyKid. I was digging around the Dell site the other day, looking for info on my 3800 ($964.00 shipped) and the specs show a S-Video to Composite adaptor coming in the box. If you don't have a S-Video enabled Tv, but have one with front A/V jacks, this would make it easy to test the Video Out feature of your laptop.

Hi i got my inspiron 4000 about 5 day ago however it seemed to have a problem on the mouse. When i plugged into the ps2 port the mouse is very very inaccurate and it tended to be constrained on the corners. Then, when i switched to USB it became a littlbe bit more accurate but still had problems on the corners. Does anyone have the similar problem? Please let me know
Thanks.
P.S. my mouse is a new microsoft intellimouse optical. i tried it on my desktop and it has no problem whatsoever.
My configuration for Inspiron 4000:
Pentium III 600.
10GB HD
64 MB RAM

i'd say the DVD playback from My inspiron 4000 to the TV is acceptablefor but not quite as good as my standalone Toshiba DVD player. One thing that's kind of annoying is that you have to plug the s-video cable into the laptop before you boot the computer otherwise it might not work since the ATI driver won't detect the TV. Also, you have to set the TV to the primary under setup otherwise only your desktop will show on the TV.
just my 2/cents

WallyKid DC = Digital camera, I been looking at all pics on Dell's web site and can't get a grasp if I'm going to like the size & style from what I can see. After seeing your post I went out today to BestBuy to look at the HP 5195 again and ended up buying it (call me crazy) $2149.00 plus tax & 3yr war. So far I'm really happy with it size, weight, style, eg and the 15" display is really nice clear, sharp & bright. I know its not going to perform as good as the Dell performance wise in games but I really don't play games on laptops.

Loudmouth I just placed the order last night haven't recieved shipping date e-mail yet. I would just call them if I was you and ask if you get price guarantee for 30 days. If they do I wouldn't give them your order number or any infor and just wait till you get it then call.
I wouldn't risk 20% rebate changing order over the phone for $50.00

UPDATE: Returned the HP 5195 couldn't take it anymore keep thinking about the 32MB ATI & 815MB waiting for my DELL 8K.

bigmouth, I just now tried configuring the same system I bought on the 5th, and I am getting an increase of $80 over what I paid then, even with the new extra $50 off promotion. So maybe they increased the prices across the board. This was not the case last night, when I configured the same system to check out the new promo, it was indeed coming out to $50 less then what I intially paid. I haven't heard back from my e-mail to Dell about the new promo, but if they have indeed gouged the prices to make up for it then I doubt I will. It is also entirely possible that I have configured something wrong here and that is causing the increase, but I have been over the config twice now and do not see what it could be.

Edit: Ok, I see what was going on. MS Office 2000 adds $130 to the price over the Works Suite 2001, so that's where the difference was coming from. Here's my config:

Inspiron 8000
PIII 600
14.1 SXGA+ TFT
64MB SDRAM
10GB Hard Drive
32MB M4? 3D Video
8X DVD-ROM Drive
V.90 + 10/100 Mini-PCI Combo

$1957 on the 5th vs. $1907 today

hi, mragrimm, it seems you got caught at the same situation with me. I posted the same question yesterday, but no answer. I spent a whole day in digging very badly in eshop.msn.com, trying to find a link to configure a Dimension 4100 933M. Guess what, I finally got it!!!

It's actually very simple. Go to eshop.msn.com, type "dell" in [search]. You will be given 240 different system configurations. In page 7, you will find what you want. I'm so glad to get my dreamed P991 trinitron monitor by a free upgrade.

I have ordered my Dimension 4100 933M. The order was placed around 12:00 noon today, and i was told that the expected shipping date is 12/14. Surprisely, when i checked the order status around 6:00pm, it's ready for shipping (UPS)! So i'll get it around Wednesday. That's great! However, here comes a problem: i probably have no chance to get the 20% rebate confirmation email before receiving the system. Do you guys think i should call Dell to verify my eligiblity for the rebate first, or just trust Dell and accept the system without the confirmation email? Your suggestion will be appreciated.
