Nope--got a courtesy call from Dell the other day saying my 8000 was delayed until 12/21... when I saw your post that yours had been shipped despite the delay I got my hopes up, but mine is still stuck at the manufacturing process.

I'm thinking of calling Dell and bitching that waiting a month for a computer is BS, but I might wait until it's actually built and/or shipped to do that--might make them more agreeable. Would love to get an extra battery and/or port replicator out of this fiasco.

It's actually kind of a relief that this promotion is over--it's been interesting to say the least. Now if we can just get our machines and rebates it will be a very good christmas!

OH DAMN!!! I got my Inspiron 8000!!! this baby is lovely.. I admit Laptops don't look good at all, but not this one.. damn nice. Flashy buttons.. looks real techy with all the fans and ports all around it.. It isn't sturdy like the IBM 707 Thinkpads..which I thought it might be but thats ok. my 15 inch screen doesn't appear to have any dead pixels (thank god). pretty fast... HOWEVER.. because it's still IDE it's darn slow, since I'm used to U160 SCSI 10K harddrives on my desktop... but it's ok. If they made 7200 laptop harddrives I'll be pleased. Battery comes in fully charged... small shipping box that has basics of Svideo cable, telephone wires, power cords, tons of great software (microsoft encarta, street map 2001..) lots of handout sheets.. argh.. defintely not as all out in shipping like gateway (with the big cow patterns all over the box)..overall everything is good. people are mentioning that the mouse isn't working well? I dunno know but both the touch pad and the finger mouse thingy work great... to help smoothen the mouse motion like a USB mouse, I changed the mouse settings for 'smoother' fast movement. Anyone interested in pictures? I scan get them, but I don't know where to post them

Hey this might seem a little off topic. But did any of you get referred or referred others? Being a Dell customer already, I referred my cousin to order under the MSN deal, and I just got a $25 webcertificate in the email!!! Argh, I helped my other friend order a comp through the same deal and never bothered to put my referral thing in. Shoot...

Concerning the 30-day pricematch policy.
Does the 30 days start when your order ships or when you place your order? Since Dell is now including a scanner, printer, or PC camera, can we request one of the three or the price difference?

Regarding a bag. Ebags is still on the MSN 20% off, but all their bags seem already overpriced. But they do have a huge selection. Personally, I want something small, that will just fit the laptop and charger. Like this one sumdex bantam brief
for $24.

dcdomain,

I referred one of my friends that ordered from Dell before and I just received a $25GC as well! :Q Thought only my friend would have been getting some sort of reward for my referal of him... Never thought I would. The referal GC reward isn't too shabby. Can shop at many places online including some of the favorite stores us Forum Mongers go to. This is basically the e-mail I got. Anyone else get a GC?

Dell's on site service is actually outsourced. The company they outsourced for in louisiana is Banc...something, i forgot. Well, he was extremely polite, and changed my touch pad, but that didn't solve my problem tough. Well, i guess i would just have to settle for a slower speed motion for my mouse.

Hey,
Is anyone else starting to get their confirmations? If so, does anyone have a way to contact the people in charge of this deal? I've tried calling MSN, MSN rebate center, Dell etc... As well as emailing the Dell promo address posted earlier. Any other suggestions?
Thanks.

You can try out DellTalk... from what I've read there, The rebate thing is very unorganized and it'll take some time before they start sending confirms.

While I haven't received my "final" confirmation (with amount) yet, I am now confident I will. In attempting to confirm my rebate, I first contacted a Dell rep. via the phone number provided in the order confirmation e-mail. While I didn't talk to my "official" rep, the CSR I talked to seemed informed on the matter and was as helpful as she could be. According to her, the MSN rebate list is being compiled *manually* so it's been a bit slow. The day I ordered (11/29) also appears to be a black hole (she couldn't find the list for that day... and only that day). She asked me a couple of questions about how I bought the laptop (Did you go directly from MSN? Did you see the rebate notice?, etc.). While she wasn't able to confirm my rebate immediately, she sent a notice to the Dell "rebate people" and said they'd send me a confirmation shortly. I also had her send me an e-mail confirming our conversation occurred.

In addition, I sent a notice to the "US_Holiday_Promos" address mentioned earlier. Today, I received an e-mail from them saying that they have confirmed my rebate and will send me the amount shortly.

If you placed your order on 11/29, I highly recommend you contact Dell since my guess is there's something messed up with the rebates for that day. Also, don't bother contacting MSN; this is in Dell's control. If you get a Dell CSR who says otherwise, then you need to speek to a different one.

Good luck all... RC

On a different note (~OT)
Has anyone installed Win2k on an Inspiron 4000 that shipped with WinMe? I now ~hate~ WinMe with a passion, but I'm concerned that installing Win2k on a Dell laptop ain't as straightforward as installing on a generic, owner-assembled desktop (what with the weird drivers for the power stuff). Any comments on that subject would be greatly appreciated.

RandomCoil - Cool nick name. I'm beginning to believe that my order fell into the "black hole" I ordered 11/28 and started from the MSN Passport link and didn't try to cheat the system by also going through eBates or anything like that.

ken2 - You ordered a Dell Dimension 4100 desktop, right? Frickin' awesome computer I must say. I wish I hadn't ordered mine in mid October because I could have saved $400 on my $2,000 4100 but I'm still quite happy with it. What configuration 4100 did you order? I heard only the 4100/866 was available when ordering through the MSN Passport 20% link.

Installing your own copy of W2K/NT/9x shouldn't be too problematic. Dell has all the drivers on their site for it.

I should be getting my I8K on Friday if UPS tracking is correct. Probably be the only one to completely disect a Dell notebook here to see all the nitty gritty hardware. I'll post up a little page on my progress if anyone is interested.

Heya guys, I found a solution to the mouse problem on the Inspirons. I know there was one person going nuts about this problem, but everyone will probably want to do this.

Go to the Touchpad Icon and then go to "More Features". Change the Pointer Refresh rate to FAST. Now you can set it to whatever speed you want. Although at some of the very high speeds it still screws up, no one will probably want it at those settings anyway.

Loving the laptop so far, it has become a nice "business expense" hehe. The one problem I have though is that spacebar, which is hard to press, but I've slowly gotten used to it.
