I'm sure the Earnhardt children are proud of all the egay sellers profiting from their father's death. Boy, good thing Dale died so that all those kids can be fed and put through college.

well i am sorry but i agree with spec411 on this, it is basic suppy and demand, if people will pay more $$ than it can be had for, then i may as well sell them. I am not profiting from one's death, Profiting from death is when a family kills their young daughter and then writes a book on their childs life story, or murdering your ex-wife and her boyfriend then getting away with it (because you were famous and had lots of money) then making a book, movie, and doing several interviews for $$$ on the matter!

I think it is sad that he died, and i in no way would wish this upon anyone he was one of the true greats, but i stand by the fact that as long as i can supply to a demand i will (as long as it is legal).

stilinsm - what you are doing on eb@y would be known as crapping, this is the same thing as if you were selling something here on anandtech for sale/trade forum and i went to your thread and offered it for less, also remember you were the one pointing out what these went for on eb@y, now do you think you should really be throwing stones?

Ok, what is the big deal here.

I can understand that there are lots of Dale fans here... but come on. The fact of the matter is, this is a collectable that has gone up in price. Lots of people in this country make money off of collectables, and you can bet a lot of those items that these collectors sell are items that are worth MORE after somebody related to the collectable passed away. For example, I personally don't think people that sell valuable Elvis stamps, memorabilia, etc. are "a-holes" and "immoral freaks."

Dale knew he was a star and knew that if the day ever came where he would go, there would probably be mad money made from his passing, especially through collectables. How about all you people start realizing this too.

Please don't let your personal feelings and grief towards Dale's passing, which is understandable, make you unrealistic about this whole situation.

I can see both points of view on this debate.

On one hand, should I not be able to sell my mickey mantle rookie baseball card because it's worth more now then when he was alive? Of course not...if someone is willing to pay me $10,000 for it, he/she is doing so because he/she feels it's worth that much. So if someone on e*ay is willing to spend $127 dollars for a daytona 500 program then obviously it is worth that much to them...i mean nobody is forcing them to buy it!

On the other hand there are a lot of people who loved this man and would like the opportunity to be able to posess a piece of history that they can remember him by. And when people buy 100 programs with the intent to sell them at a profit then the people who lose are the 100 people who can't afford to buy them at e*ay prices and can no longer have the opportunity to get them at the lower cost.

So both sides are right, but nobody should really be screaming at one another. Did I buy some programs, yes. Did I buy as many as I could afford to buy, no. Am I intending to rip people off, no...because if I decide to sell them it will ultimately be the buyers decision if it is worth it to him or her.

Well, that's kind of the whole point of collectables right? You must have done something right to have that Mickey Mantle rookie card next to you and for me not to have one here by my side.

I might love, worship, and even idolize Mickey Mantle more than you... doesn't mean I DESERVE the card more than you. You got it first and it's yours, plain and simple. Doesn't really matter HOW you obtained it. End result is, you have it and I don't.

Furthermore, we're talking in a hot deals forum here. For crying out loud, it's all about first come first serve.

And, if you haven't noticed, there are going to be a ton of auctions for these programs pretty soon on eb@y once everyone gets theirs... even more than what's up there right now. Final auction prices are dropping even as we speak, so it really won't be as horrible as you all are making it out to be.

I called into Customer service earlier today and they said my order should be shipped tomorrow. I had 3 orders go in within hours of each other so you must have placed yours late even though you started the thread. Plus there wouldn't be this fuss over making profit if you hadn't of mentioned the line about selling over $100 in your original post.

auyong - You're right - what I did was a CHILDISH response to people making comments about me putting a couple of smiley faces in a previous post. What does that have to do with CLASS??
