Get F@H off my computer

I posted this on the F@H site also. I have removed every file related to the program, deleated it to the recycle bi, then emptied the recycle bin and the program keeps coming back. I've stopped/deleated the program in task manager numerous times. I have no virus's, adware, spybot, and all the latest updates. This is acting just like a virus. I want it off my computer.

search for the .exe of that file on your computer and find out where its running from and delete it.

Perhaps you have it running as a service, and haven't uninstalled the service and the files where you're running the service from ???

I have done that....about 10 times. It keeps showing up after an hour or two. Even though I deleated it, its still there. Just like a virus.

have you tried reinstalling it
then shutting down the service

then uninstalling it

also you might want to check your temp files depending on where you extracted it from

Did you run MSconfig and uncheck the box under Services marked FAH@C:+Program Files+Folding@home+FAH502-Console.exe

That should remove it from services that automatically run on startup.

Good one Hyperfocal!!! I had not found that in MSconfig, nor did I see that listed on the F@H site as a place to check. We shall see now if it works.

Just deleting the core, "fahcore_65" only causes the program to download another. You need to delete the program .exe, named something like: winfah.exe or FAH502-Console.exe.

Do a search for "winfah" and "fah*console", and then delete the containing folder.

F@H is not a virus, by any stretch of the imagination what so ever. However, some "trojans" have stealthily installed a F@H client for the benefit of the trojan's originator.

Now, the proper way to uninstall the CLI-as-a-service is to shut down the service from the Services panel under Administrative tools, then go back to the folder where the CLI is and run it with -configonly, saying NO where it asks about running as a service. This will officially remove the entry from the registry.

However, you may well have screwed things up by deleting files so many times already, that you may just have to use regedit to get the F@H stuff out of your registry, if the proper method doesn't work. If the uninstall process is followed properly, things shouldn't be this hard.

One more thing to think about... Do you have the WinXp (or ME) recovery console enabled? That will restore you back to your "save point" which could be before you uninstalled F@H. Since you had it running as a service I could see it trying to restore you once you deleted the files.
