Another thing is i signed up within the past year. I didn't come from AT&T. I bet if i call back they are going to pull the IVR thing. She just seemed like she was repeating whatever a supervisor told her to say because thats all she could say.

I would probably just ride it out but the phone i have is a piece of garbage and i'm stuck with it right now. I used to be with Sprint and i liked it better since they have 1 year contracts, so if you hate your phone you only have it for a year.

Ok I just got off the phone with a rep and he told me that because I have a texting package that this doesn't apply to me. He said because the increase is only for pay per use and not on texting packages, so I canceled my texting package so that I might be able to call back in a couple days and see if I can try again, I would appreciate anyones input or help on a way to handle this?

I was also reading through the fatwallet link and noticed another way, asking to get a copy of my contract and then won't they don't provide me with one filing the FCC claim and getting out that way.

So any advice?

Thanks

I would try the contract thing, over the text messeging thing. It's been working alot more...plus read through this whole thread....You'll see exactly what you need to say to the CSR.

Yea trying to do the text messaging thing is a pain in the ass.
They'll frigging argue with you the whole time, saying that's not what the contract states.

blah blah, you're not subscribed to the texting plan. blah blah bs.

Tell them you want a copy of the contract.
They'll ask you whether you signed papers : Say yes.
then they'll put you on hold for like 5 min and come back and say hold again that they're looking for it.

They'll come back and say I'm sorry, I am unable to find blah blah and let you off the contract.

With the lady I just spoke to I asked for a copy of my contract, she said that she filled out a request but couldn't give me a time that I would be getting it in the mail, she took my name and number and said a manager would call me and let me know.

So what do I do now? Call again in a few days and ask where it is?

Wait for the call from the manager for a day or so.
If the manager doesn't call u back... Call the CSR again and tell thme this is the 2nd time you're requesting a copy of your contract.

and repeat the process I guess.

yeah, not gonna work at all, so don't even bother trying. I have spoken to 5 different supervisors and CSRs all with the same arguement.

"Text messaging is an option, I can cancel it for you if you'd like" is what it all boils down to. I was also on a plan and dropped the pay per use about 2 days ago, but they see that and know what the deal is.

Contract thing didn't work out for me because I purchased a phone online which is now a huge mistake. I'm just gonna pay the ETF and get the hell out of that company

Someone made a good point on another board regarding this - Isn't it funny how the text messaging increase took place a little before the new season of American Idol?

I got the President of Cingular (Central regions) phone #. He called me back and left a message,I am currently awaiting his responce. I filled a claim with BBB....Like I said before they do take this very seriously.....and I made sure of that from a hookup I have at my local BBB office.....I will see what he has to offer, and leave his responce here....According to the message he left me, he wants me to close my dispute with BBB because they have cancelled my account with no ETF Fee and done what I'verequested.....=)~ Like I said before to peeps on here....file a claim....

Thanks for the heads up on this! Both my wife and I have Cingular plans and we really dont use the phones as much as we used to and I cant justify spending $100/mo on them.

I think both of our contracts are already up, but if not this should still give us a free out.

On an aside (sorry if it's too off topic) does anyone know of any cheap share plans for 2 phones where you do not have any initial up front costs (like having to buy a new $200 phone)? We really only need something to have on hand for emergencies.

Under my current play I have close to 10k rollover minutes since I only use 100-200 a month (all the other Cingular plans currently available are the same price as my plan or more, so I dont see an advantage to staying with Cingular). So a bare minimum plan should work fine for us.

Thanks!

Cingular has just made changes t their contract. This note was posted in my latest bill I received today.

NOTICE OF DISPUTE RESOLUTION AGREEMENT IN CONTRACT
We are pleased to advise you that Cingular has revised the
ARBITRATION CLAUSE in our standard Wireless Service Agreement
to make it even better for consumers. The revised arbitration clause
can be found at www.cingular.com/disputeresolution.
This revision is effective immediately.

Apparently, now if they change the rates on you, you have one month from the date they inform you of the rate change, to cancel your service without incurring any early termination fees.

My November bill did not say anything about a fee increase, however, this month, on my December bill, a text messaging rate increase has been noted on my bill.

Im gonna call today and begin the process of closing my account as well as my mothers account who is on a family shared plan.

Wow, because of a bunch of morons crying over 5 cents they had to change their policy that will most likely screw over a bunch of people who aren't trying to abuse the system. Bravo.

Actually, the morons are those who think this policy change has anything to do with that. It was a revision of the arbitration clause, the "change in fees" proviso was always there.

And 5 cents is a 50% increase in fees, and a coercive measure to induce customers to spend more. No need to crap all over others who have found value in this post.

So the person I was quoting was incorrect? Guess that's what happens when I assume to much. Either way this whole thing sucks and Cingular is getting a bad rap over it for no reason, they did nothing wrong, plain and simple.
