The argument against the pope doesn't fly. He actually lives like a priest, not as a pope.. the older pope lives like a pope.

I think it hurts Trump a bit.. maybe 5 points? The bigger question is who gets the 5 points. I don't think it makes a difference at this point since Trump dropping from 38 to 33 is hardly significant.

It hurt the pope more then it hurt Trump.

for exactly the reasons sportage said. The Pope was getting to people who were not religious (such as me) then he sprouted off on the Trump. I have no love for Trump and no plans to vote for him. But I do think the Pope overspoke,.

The Pope needs to keep his nose out of our politics, or any politics, for that matter. Since when is a Pope political? I guess Frank is the first I've seen.

Since forever. Less in more recent times, but still forever.

Hey! I don't like DOnald, no way, but...
This crossed over the line for even a Pope.
Not over the line for a Trump possibly, but FYI Donald is no Pope.

I was convinced one of the other republican candidates or the GOP itself paid off the Pope to make this Trump vs Christian comparison.
Now, I think it was all motivated from Mexico and immigration.

Such a odd and weird election I can not remember.
I just hope the rapture hasn't taken place, and none of us made the cut.
And THIS our just torment.

I'm just telling you what the Fundies would be raving about had Donald declared himself to be a Democrat. But now that he's a Republican they can easily forgive any sin he might commit. Like he said, he could shoot somebody & they'd still believe.

What does that tell you?
That they're just like you, just on the other side.

I'm gonna jump in here and I know it might be off-topic..

I'm a moderate to liberal Democrat. I'd love for Bernie to win if he could actually turn even part of his agenda into law.

But he can't.

And I'll vote for Hillary because she's actually a great candidate who will get some things done.

But. There is a Republican candidate who I know would work his butt off for this country. And isn't crazy. And could actually lead this country and the Congress into the future.

That's not Trump. It's John Kasik.

Who do you suppose they'll vote for if Trump is the nominee?

Trump. What's your point? Can you show me all these evangelicals on record claiming to NEVER vote for someone that had divorced a few times or whatever else? That's not hypocrisy if they still view their vote as going towards the person closer to their interests.

Feel the same way. I'd rather give up my citizenship than vote Trump.

I liked Kasich until I heard his plan for Isis, "Planes in the air & boots on the ground". Just another neocon looking to play soldier.

In other words, they'll vote for a volatile narcissist of highly questionable moral values because they're convinced he's on their side? A guy who's obviously just on the biggest publicity driven ego trip of his rich kid ego tripping life?

To be President? Are you out of your mind?

That's why Repubs can't run Trump. Dems will be right there to help voters remember their values, you know?

You are such a hypocrite. You talk about moral values, yet you support a candidate who has been morally bankrupt her whole career. You are strictly partisan and wouldn't ever turn a stink eye on your own side of the fence. There are turds on both side of the fence.

No Christians I know profess to be perfect or without sin.

No, but you aren't supposed to keep doing those things while at the same time professing to being a Christian.

Also the Pope has also always been a political office, he is the head of state for the Vatican.

The S/N ratio is really poor in regards to searches on the history of this issue atm, but while it's common for the Pope to make pronouncements that relate to politics, it seems unusual to make such an overt condemnation of a candidate for President.

Everyone one of those other candidates, Kasich included, will pull policies from the same broken Republican playbook, and install people from the same corrupt Republican bench, that they've been using for the past three and a half decades to drive this country into further into the ditch. Like it or not Trump is the only one that can operate outside that bubble.

I think you just hit on that status quo thing that America is pissed about. This is the message that is resonating and is carrying Trump and Sanders. I'm not going to speak for everyone, but I'm tired of the same old shit and the political establishment in Washington DC. It has to end. There has to be a candidate that gets elected that makes it end. I feel the Democrats are terribly afraid of anyone, other than another Democrat, getting in the White House, for very good reasons. Many unsavory things have been going on for a long time and shit could hit the fan for many Democrats, as well as Republicans. They feel threatened by outsiders, frankly, any of us would, if we thought our ill gotten gravy train could come to an end. I'm sure many of these politicians have mortgaged their futures, upon, being able to carry on "business as usual". Poor things might have to go bankrupt and even prison, in some cases.

I forgot to mention multiple creative bankruptcies by the Donald.

And, uhh, Hillary is morally bankrupt because of what? Vince Foster? Ben-fucking-ghazi? Her email?

Or maybe it's her support for the Methodist church & all kinds of programs to help the disabled, veterans, kids & families on the skids? 40 years of monogamy? Co-founding of an international charity?

That's definitely one part of it, but with Trump in particular there's one more, very profound, thing at work. Trump is one of the very "job creators" the republican base has been turning up election after election in support of after being told time and time again by the establishment that if you give these guys more tax cuts, less regulations, that prosperity will trickle down to you. It's been bullshit all along, the base was finally starting to wise to it, and now one of the very people that benefited is openly calling it the BS that it is. And when the establishment attacks him for it it just further gives away the game, legitimizes his argument, and strengthens his support. Honestly at this point I don't see how any reasonable Republican can not support Trump. At worst he's a better kind of terrible than the rest of those jokers.
