Get rid of Linux dual boot

I had a dual boot setup with Mandrake Linux and Windows 2000 on a backup computer. I put a new motherboard in there so I was going to reformat and just install Windows 2000 since I never used Linux. But now I cannot get rid of the Linux boot selecting screen. And since I already deleted all the partitions and reformatted, I cannot boot into Linux. I have no idea how to get rid of this and just boot into Windows 2000. Any ideas? Thanks.

i had this issue before. let's see if i can remember. i put in the original linux mandrake cd and booted off of that. you will be given some options to eliminate the linux partition or convert the partition to fat. i sort of forgot but that's all i remember. hope that helps.

oh yeah another thing to try. hope ya have a windows boot disk...use it and try this at the prompt...fdisk /mbr.

Or maybe you wanna go deeper and try to dissamble your MBR then rebuild it ! hehehe

No, seriously, FDISK /MBR should do the work.

I couldnt' get my win2k Cd to boot on my system, so could i use the win98 boot disk to use the fdisk on that? or should i create the 4 floppy win2k boot disks.

I bet it's the latter because of the difference in the boot loader with win2k/xp.

Uthiroid, there is way to make your win2k cd bootable. what you need to do is boot off your windows 98 boot disk and load smartdrv.exe. to do this make sure the windows 98 cd-rom is loaded then type in for example D:/cd win98 and then D:/ smartdrv.exe. I have to load smartdrv.exe twice for some reason. Then load your windows 2000 cd-rom. type in D: /cd i386 and then D: /cd winnt and hit enter. that should work. i do it often. you will not need the 4 disks provided you executed the commands correctly.

oops made an error. i am assuming your cd-rom drive is D in this case. anyways reboot with the windows 98 bootable diskette in the floppy drive and the windows 98 cd-rom in the cd-rom drive. from the a prompt change your drive letter to that of your cd-rom drive. D:\>cd win98 and hit enter, you will see D:\WIN98> from there type D:\WIN98>smartdrv.exe and hit enter and then again type D:\WIN98>smartdrv.exe hit enter. This will load up smart drive. Then pop in the windows 2000 cd-rom. type in from the D prompt, cd i386 and then from the i386 folder type in winnt and it will start the win2k setup process. hope that helps.

so in the setup process, it will redo the mbr, or can i get to a command prompt with the win2k disk and just run fdisk?

I'm just worried about losing service pack upgrades if i reinstall.
