get rid of windows messenger in xp.

how do i get rid of windows messenger icon running in taskbar in xp. Someone told me there is a registry setting or something you can change. my pc

I am sure someone in here will know a registry setting but the easy way to do it is double click the icon and open the messanger. Go into the options and deselect open at startup. Then close messanger and right click the icon and close it. It is still obviously on your hard drive but will not come up everytime you boot.

Start/run then type this in:
notepad c:\windows\inf\sysoc.inf

delete the word "hide' from all lines, then go to add/remove programs and you can now uninstall that, and many other items.

That has never worked for me, but the other methods have. They should add the outlook express regristry hack to the faq too, because if you remove msn, OE doesn't like to load quickly.

EDIT: Oh, stupid me, why didn't I see the 'windows components' before. I'm such a moron sometimes.
