Class action against garment maker incoming. "The label says I am a size zero how can I not fit in an airplane seat?"

Thats incredibly common for smaller planes although a 767 doesn't really count as small. Still I could see an issue if all the weight was clustered on one side of the plane. I've seen large groups of extended families and if they all want to sit on the same side of the plane and are all overweight that could be problematic. And its not like they are charging by weight like Samoa Airlines

The concern is if the weight is concentrated too far forward, or worse, too far aft. If the plane is too tail heavy it can easily stall.

Eh... I've been on small planes where they asked people their weight for that very reason. Of course a 4-6 prop aircraft is a bit different than the larger commercial aircraft but its the same principle.

The obese are truly a blight on our society.

They are. Watch cowspiracy on netflix. Its pretty amazing. The meat lobby gives money to greenpeace and all the others so they wont talk about how damaging that industry is to the environment. Produces more global warming gasses then all of the energy sector.

Eh - There is 2 sides to this:

1. Fatties need to stop being fat and believing others just need to "deal with it". They need to stop finding it socially acceptable to dip into other people's seats and pay for 2 tickets if they can't contain their fat. There is nothing more disgusting than someones fat seeping through to the next chair and having to have it rub against for an entire bus or plane ride. I blame liberals whom find this to be socially acceptable in anyway. We would go a lot further as a society if people felt open enough to fat shame people.

2. We need more airline regulations. If it were up to airlines, they would slim those fucking chairs to the point where only a 110lb person could fit. It's ridiculous. I always feel bad for people that are over 6' and have to have their kneecaps rubbing against the end of the chair in front of them the entire time. We either need to cut them off with where they currently have the seats sized to, or mandate that they are what they were ~5-10 years ago.

I say this - as a former fattie. I went through all my of school years being 330+

I wonder how many airline passengers have heard of the Loadmaster and the important role that person plays in the loading and balancing of a plane. Basically, the Loadmaster makes sure that load in the plane is arranged to keep the center of gravity of the plane properly located. A properly loaded plane requires less trim to maintain level flight, thus lowering the resistance of the aircraft moving through the air and reducing the power necessary to maintain altitude/level flight, improving fuel mileage. Knowing the weight of what you are loading allows you to accurately place it for best effect. I would take improved safety and lower costs over the hurt feelings of any passengers.

If you are heavy and want to ignore it, fine. It doesn't mean everyone else has to, especially when it comes to public safety.

Well if the next candidate instead of hating women and foreigners hated fat people, I know which way AT is leaning.

If you are overweight it is all your fault and you are fat. If you have anorexia it is a disease. How convenient.

If you are charging more for fat people when someone is extremely skinny, are they getting a discount?

They should weigh people with all their luggage (including carry-on). That way people pay for all their weight. All that carry-on luggage has to go somewhere also. Some of the rules should also factor in how some body styles mean some people put weight on in the stomach area and some people (Often Black) put the weight on in their hips and ass area making them wider in the Buttocks.

Maybe the real problem is that all or some airplane seats should just be wider and that maybe everyone should be charged by the weight of themselves and their Carry-on and checked luggage.

You cant just have a rule that applies to fat people. Weigh and measure everyone and all their luggage and carry-ons. If you weigh more and fit into a seat that should be taken into an account. What about people who are taller and shorter? Should women and children pay less?

First things first....
It IS your own fault if your fat and people need to stop being obtuse on this point.

Personal experience:
I'm 5'9", had steadily ballooned up to 212lbs over the past few years. That's fat!.. it's officially obese in fact; you can check any chart you like.

I'm a pilot as well and recently decided to get some Acro training in a Citabria... (it's a small aerobatic rag-wing). With my 212lb fat a$$ + parachutes, and an instructor who weighs about 170, we were over the utility weight and balance envelope and we could only take about 1/2 fuel.

That was a little embarrassing and also my wake-up call. So did I continue to eat burgers and frys and drink gallons of Coke? Nope, I changed a few simple things. I cut sodas out completely, started taking my coffee black, cut back on foods loaded with carbs, and started hitting the treadmill 3-4 times a week. No other lifestyle changes, didn't even reduce meal portions.. Just cut out the soda, sugar, reduced carbs, and began running.....

I'm up to 5 miles steady running without getting winded and down to 187 so far AND my BP is down about 6 points. 170 is the target and it's only taken about 8 weeks to get rid of 25lbs so far. I've already dropped 3 inches off my waist so far and if I can do it anyone can.

All you people crowing about fat-shaming how and it's so unfair and the world is against you (insert X-Y-Z here: ___________) need to get over yourselves and take charge of your own actions... Barring some major physical disability, you're not some unique snowflake who can't benefit from some simple lifestyle changes and no, I'm sorry, but it's NOT your Goddamned thyroid...

in Aug i flew from Denver to Chicago on a United Airlines Embraer aircraft. its a small 2 engine under the wing aircraft. there were 4 of us flying from work and we were on a very tight build out timeline. Anyway due to very hot temps and high altitude they kicked 17 people off the plane due to being too heavy for take off. United gave them 1000.00 vouchers and put them up for the night with a guarantee they would be on the first flight out in the morning. they picked people by lowest fair paid first. Luckily none in my crew got picked or our project would have been delayed and cost a shit ton of money. And i was really not wanting to make that call to my boss.

my point to that story is, The United pilots knew the weight of the aircraft with its passengers and luggage without weighing people.
