First things first....
It IS your own fault if your fat and people need to stop being obtuse on this point.
Personal experience:
I'm 5'9", had steadily ballooned up to 212lbs over the past few years. That's fat!.. it's officially obese in fact; you can check any chart you like.
I'm a pilot as well and recently decided to get some Acro training in a Citabria... (it's a small aerobatic rag-wing). With my 212lb fat a$$ + parachutes, and an instructor who weighs about 170, we were over the utility weight and balance envelope and we could only take about 1/2 fuel.
That was a little embarrassing and also my wake-up call. So did I continue to eat burgers and frys and drink gallons of Coke? Nope, I changed a few simple things. I cut sodas out completely, started taking my coffee black, cut back on foods loaded with carbs, and started hitting the treadmill 3-4 times a week. No other lifestyle changes, didn't even reduce meal portions.. Just cut out the soda, sugar, reduced carbs, and began running.....
I'm up to 5 miles steady running without getting winded and down to 187 so far AND my BP is down about 6 points. 170 is the target and it's only taken about 8 weeks to get rid of 25lbs so far. I've already dropped 3 inches off my waist so far and if I can do it anyone can.
All you people crowing about fat-shaming how and it's so unfair and the world is against you (insert X-Y-Z here: ___________) need to get over yourselves and take charge of your own actions... Barring some major physical disability, you're not some unique snowflake who can't benefit from some simple lifestyle changes and no, I'm sorry, but it's NOT your Goddamned thyroid...
