I agree, not many people would do that here. Though I already got in on this deal along with the lava lamp deal, thanks lobadobadingdong for sharing the info with us

Ya'll are right I don't spend much time in the hot deals forum, But either way, I did get XP Pro awfully cheap for a fairly new field engineer(only been doing this a little over 3yrs, just found out about anandtech about a year ago. Thanks, well at least now anyone else who didn't know about it already will be saved the $5 I spent LOL. Some links on e-bay went as high as $10 for this. the $5 guy was the cheapest.

BTW, I ordered this around 9/26 and I have yet to hear from them

I ordered mine on 9/23 and after a week of waiting I shot off an email to their CS dept. They said it can take up to 8 weeks for your order to be processed and shipped. Kinda gay IMO but whatever, i'm getting xp pro for under $50... can't complain there.

Hey, thanks for the reminder. After months of procrastination I finally went ahead and ordered the thing in spite of my intense ^@#$!!! for MS.

I've seen this deal posted here before too, but for some reason this time I decided to do it. Thanks to the OP for the tip!

You gotta like the description in this auction:

Dork

"$6.99 + cost of software = less than $58. Windows XP Pro retails at $300. YOU CAN LOSE!!! "

I can lose, huh?

See step 7.
You should get an e-mail from microsoft that ends with something like this, you get your authorization code, and use the link given in your e-mail to order it. I've removed the lcid to 0000 because that gives reference to the business you work for or just set up.

To validate your request, please enter the authorization code below on the authorization form at: http://register.microsoft.com/regsys/companyassociation.asp?LCID=0000&action=assoc

Authorization code: XXXXXXXX

Sorry been trying to return you pm's but it doesn't seem to wanna work right. Anyway, you click to create a new business account with them, you only have to fill in the required fields, and I think they are marked with red *'s, the tax id is not required(federal privacy laws prevent anyone from verifying this, so Microsoft shouldn't verify anything but your credit card at the end.) Fill in everthing that is required info, and finish the rest of the script on the first post of this thread.

Hope this helps, I don't have the best memory, but this should get you fixed up.

Shouldn't the title read "WinXP Pro for $5" ?

Man, I've always hated ebay! You're a good sport lobadobadingdong!

...and I'll give you a solid 10 for sharing this with the community. I had the first post going here that got locked by AT moderator because so many people think fraud is a good idea

The real fraud is ebay! Okay, not everyone on ebay, but for the sheer fact that it is a breeding ground for alot of low-lifes.

I was goofing around on e-bay and paid $5 to get info on this
Hehe. Oh boy.. I wondered who paid $5 for this information. I really hate the people that take this stuff to Ebay and sell the information. I want to skin these people actually. Hope that you didn't leave him feedback yet. I'd neg him for sure!!

BTW.. I got in on this deal twice. The first time, I got the lava lamp package last year and got a full retail box of XP Pro. This time around with the Go Pro! baseball pack, WinXP Pro only came in a cardboard sleeve and clearly says "not for resale or redistribution". Guess they got wise to people reselling the software.

Let me ask you guys this.. The original box that I got looks like the retail version. I haven't really looked at a retail version up close. Was there any difference between what we got with the lava lamp deal and what you can buy at the store for $299? Are there different markings on the box?

This forum is great. I can hardly believe that I am going to get XP for less than 50 bucks. Pro no less. I don't mind the wait. And to think I was considering paying 86 for home. I am one happy camper. Thanks for all the info guys.

This is a good deal and the fact that you paid a little to get it doesn't hurt the goodness of the deal. I have done this 2 times and I got both already. I dunno about the Big League Chew (Microsoft is trying to poison me... j/k) but it works and has the key and everything. Nothing like going legit for cheap. And yes, you can upgrade from home to pro.

I know that we all hate bringing a dead thread back to life, but has anyone found anything similar to this? Thanks.

Just set up a dutch auction for the same information for $0.01. Be sure to use a title similar to their's so they come up in the same searches.

How long did this actually take for you guys to get it? I know what the offer states, but just curious on what the actual time relly is roughly since I ordered it back in early october and I am building a new system now and would like to XP pro it. I don't really want to install Win98SE now to test the system and then have to reinstall everything for Win XP pro 4 weeks later and I cant just ait since all the parts are ordered and I will need to test them all before thr return policy expires. Thanks

I always wondered who the chumps were who bought INFORMATION off ebay. You always see those damn auctions intermixed in the real ones. Usually under searches for tech stuff. Search for Xbox, or IPod or whatever and you'll see a ton of "auctions" for $5. Clicking thru, it's always some ass nozzle selling INFORMATION about how to get one for free or whatever... Geeze...

Anyway, I've ordered two of these XP promo kits now. They come pretty fast (for Microsoft). Probably within 2-3 weeks. The kits are pretty nice too. The first one came with an XP lava lamp - which I promptly auctioned on egay for about 1/2 the cost of the kit. Works out to around $50 total w/ shipping, etc. Subtract $10-20 for ebaying the crap that comes with it and it's a pretty sweet deal. The second one came with a bobble head baseball guy and an XP baseball. Could barely get $10 on ebay for that stuff. Apparantly people like lava lamps better... who knew?
