I just received this in my email from Coinstar. About once a year I turn my jar of all my loose change to get counted at a Coinstar machine.

Turn in at least 40.00 in change and opt for a Gift Card or eCart and you will get another 10.00 in the form of a gift card or eCert by filling out the printed receipt & mail in to receive your $10 Holiday bonus.

Offer good on qualified transactions made between November 7th and December 7, 2008.

You can locate a Coinstar in your area by putting your zip in the box of this link here

Totally depends on the bank. Several years ago I tried taking a ton of change in to my bank (Washington Mutual) to deposit it. First, they told me it all had to be in rolls (they obviously didn't have a machine), then on top of that, there would be a 10 cent per roll "processing" fee. Naturally I said screw that. As for banks that have change machines, most will be free if you have an account there. Some will charge you a small fee if you don't (last one I used was $3 for under $100). But generally banks are better than Coinstar machines, unless you opt for the giftcard.

So, go to the bank, buy $40 in quarters, convert to gift cert and get $10? Thanks OP, good deal.

Do these things count the $1 coins as well?

I can't wait to get me some Circuit City gift cards!

... why wont the machine locator work for me?

I always end up with a huge bucket of change every month, turn it into Amazon certs. Do it at the grocery store when I am there. The extra $10 sounds nice. And to the person who posted about buying rolls of quarters from the bank, interesting idea!

i think that's because of how the OP was worded.

it placed the stress on the lack of the 8.9% service charge on gift cards, instead of the free $10.

good idea w/ the quarters.

i might do it w/ pennies though. make that machine, person that collects the change work a little bit.

Good deal, I've been meaning to cash out my coins for years! I'm sure there's at least $40 in my coin box (I buy everything on a credit card, so I don't expect a huge amount)

None of the banks around here have free coin counting machines, so I was going to use the coinstar at the grocery store anyway. This offer just gives me motivation to stop being lazy about it

bump, since I'm doing this today

Edit: I cashed in $121, I thought about cashing it in $40 increments but the promotion is "one per household or name"

We used to go to gas stations to top up the air pressure in our tires for free too...

Recently I had about $120 in change and found that it was difficult to find a bank who did cash for free. My bank was small and did not have (or said they did not have) a counter. Eventually I found a bank with a sign: "Exchange your change for free." So, I stopped and indeed it was free, but a teaser for the 8% to come, though as somebody pointed out earlier it would be free with account.

Life is such a game lately, but heck, we play the other side here! Bravo to all you sage and courageous deal-seekers!

We shall play their games and win.

My best deal this year through Atech: HP 2600N color Laserjet Printer with 2000+ page cartridges (those alone cost ~$280) total cast after rebate, price-match, old printer turn in and I think second rebate was $80 and that included a Drop it Off at Staples 2+ year warranty.

well, removal of the mention of the fee isnt good either.

just stress the "free $10". there should be mention of removal of the fee.

though i suppose if people actually read threads before posting, there wouldnt be a problem :/
