Getting 3D to work with my GeForce2MX

Hi, I am running:

Abit KG7-Lite
GeForce2mx200 (noname)
win2k pro
service pack 2
amd agp driver patch
via 4in1 (not AGP patch)
directx 8.1

And I'm not getting any 3D. Dxdiag says direct3d isn't available.

Funny thing is, upon installing the latest nvidia reference drivers, the installer says everything is ok and I restart my computer. When Windows reappears, I still have VGA standard adapter. I CAN, however, choose an nvidia card from the usual windows list (I am now using TNT2 M64), but this does little in the way of 3D.

I've been working on this for days now, I'm getting desperate. Please help...

If your Vidcard came with a driver, install it. If not, yet the manufacturer has a Web site, DL it. The latest "reference" driver from nVidia isn't necessarily the best driver.

My card came with an install CD that said that drivers for my particular card were not yet available (yes, it does sound absurd). The card itself has no markings, the only way I've been able to tell that it is a geforce 2 mx is that it says so before the memory test starts when booting. I did try the pixelview mx200 drivers when I installed win9x - they gave me 3D but were decidedly unstable.

Like the tree said to the lumberjack - I'm stumped.

It is probably just an MX, not a 200. Try the Older Detonator drivers.

Nvidia reference drivers have given me strange problems before. Not crashes, but peculiar things like options and settings not being accessible. Since I use a Guillemot card, I use the Guillemot revisions of the Detonator drivers. Right now I'm using the 14.10's, they work great.
