eVGA seems to be favored better with the population, but I do believe the XFX can reach higher overclock speeds. Then again, XFXs run hot.

EVGA. We need a sticky on this because it's asked every day (no offense)... EVGA is favored for all GPUs, not just a certain one (unless one has a bad HSF or something). We don't know if you mean in terms of warranty or in terms of the actual card itself. For cooling, I don't know how this one compares to others.

By all accounts EVGA makes an excellent product but I have to point out that the XFX can usually be purchased for less (certainly that was the case with me) and that it has an excellent warranty. The core clock is also a spectacular overclocker--I'm currently running at 510 MHz. I don't think you can go wrong with either manufacturer.

EVGA. It has its step up program and customer support is very good. Also, the lifetime warranty covers any damage to the card that isn't physical. That includes overclocking the card too far. I think it also means you can change the hs/f without voiding the warrranty, as long as you don't damage the pcb, break off a transistor, etc. (physical damage). I don't know how far an evga 7800gt can OC to, but if EVGA is consistent with the quality of their products, then I would give it a good chance. My 6600gt achieved a stable overclock of 595/1260 from 500/1000 stock with a zalman vf700 cooler, just as an example.

is the VF700 cooler compatible with the Nvidia 7800GT (XFX or EVGA)? I really like the XFX, but am trying to run a quiet computer, and the XFX would ruin that. I have the VF700 (ALCU) on my 6600GT and it is freakin awesome, and want to bring it along to the 7800GT if I upgrade

Yes it is. It should work fine for 7800 series . . .

Looking fine on a 7800GT though is another matter . . .

Can't really say much about xfx, no experience...first card was bfg 6800u and was going to get another till I ran across evga and their products/ support. Ended up getting a gt co for less than 3 bones (if you consider the free game worth $40). Not really excited about the stepup program, trying to put a pencil to it and it just wouldn't work out for me. I am not a proponent of the sli thing but I would go that route and mod the board instead of going with the stepup thing (not very cost effective). Forums at evga have quality people there to help you along with evga staff. Moderated exceptionialy well. Powers to be at evga have put a lot of emphasis on customer service and it has created a win/win situation for everybody.

I have a couple of eVGA cards and they are excellent. My 7800 GT is running fine @ 485/1100. eVGA has been great with support calls and parts. I asked for a replacement double PCI bracket for my 6800 Ultra, and they sent one to me for free. (I cut the first one to install an AC NV5.) I also like that they oc their basic 7800 GT to 445/1070 without hyping the "OC". Thumbs up to eVGA, by me at least.

EVGA. Their warrenty is better then any other brand, which should speak volumes of the confidence they have in their products.

My current card is an eVGA 6800 Ultra (AGP), and my eVGA 7800GT and NF41 SLI mobo combo will be here TODAY! I can't wait. My 1st choice used to be ASUS, but you can't beat eVGA's quality and prices. eVGA has won me over. I wish the step-up program time limit was a bit longer. 90 days isn't enough. Now I have a year-old 6800U that I'll have to post on ebay. I'll consider eVGA 1st for my next yearly upgrade.

so, I installed my new 4200+ XP2 and it seems to scream with my 6600GT, will I notice that big of an upgrade to spend $400 to get the 7800?

My BFG 6800GT is getting swapped out for an eVGA 7800GT. They both have great warranties but the eVGA was a better deal (with the free motherboard). Between those 2 choices I would say eVGA.

eVGA definitely. I ordered mine two days ago. Lifetime warrenty + trade up feature + low price = great. Sure not much of a bundle but who really cares about that nowadays?
