How much should it cost me to get a *good* job done, including materials and labor?

Also, I heard that tinting the rear window (where the defrost wires are) can cause some weird looking lines in the tint after using your defrost for a while. Some have said it leaves "cracks" of lighter color running through the tint - has this ever been an issue for anyone? Cause I need my defrost

Locally in Lawrence KS, about $150.0-$180.00 for a 4 door car, cheaper for a coupe or truck.

Ensure they do the rear window with a single piece of tint. Last thing you want is an annoying seam in the middle of your field of vision.

I paid $145 for my 1996 Eagle Talon to get tinted in Massachusetts about two years ago. I haven't encountered any problems regarding my rear defroster.........yet.

But like "Slag" said, "Ensure they do the rear window with a single piece of tint. Last thing you want is an annoying seam in the middle of your field of vision."

I have two pieces of tint on my rear window and it's not the smoothest transition. My Bitch

Got my car tinted a couple weeks ago

here's a pic

Cost about $289. The key is to go to a GOOD place and to get the BEST tint.

Definitely get a fully metallic one (which won't fade or crack) and definitely try, as was mentioned above, to get one piece across the back if possible.

3M or Formula One are the brands i'd recommend...use a certified installer and you can get a lifetime guarantee with free replacement....

I'd like to get my car tinted because it gets so hot and my AC can barely keep up. Does tint help?

heck yeah! ever since i got 38% all around it's been noticeably cooler after the car has been sitting in the sun. AND, i don't need to turn the fan up so high on the A/C

I got my tint for 120 driver side and passenger side and back totaling 7 pieces for 2001 accord in Orange County in California. I have had mine for 4 month now. Generally, I got it to protect the fabric in the car and it does cool a little bit. The place you get it at is very important because craftmanship is different everywhere.

Also, I heard that tinting the rear window (where the defrost wires are) can cause some weird looking lines in the tint after using your defrost for a while. used to work at a certified 3M install shop. it cost about $150 to do 4 doors and the back. it is nearly impossible to just use 1 piece of tint for the back window. what we did was slice it up into 3-4 pieces depending on the size, but we only cut where the defog lines run across. this way, you wont notice any spaces or strange lines. if the shop u bring it to knows what they're doing, you'll have your car back in 4 hours

wherever i went they had a machine with patterns for every car that used a laser to cut the film pieces to shape....therefore making one piece for the rear window wasn't a problem. don't know if that's unique or not.

took about an hour to do while i waited, which was cool.

Kinger,

I have a question about the wing. I have the same year talon (green, tsi awd,5 spd) and im curious how didi you get rid of the rear "spoiler" (the ulgy lip thing)? I looked underneat and when i take if off, it leaves several holes, especially one 1in in diamater. How do you patch those up?

Bondo and paint are pretty much the only wait to get rid of those holes

If you've never done it before, buy a practice piece of glass and test it out on that first. Newbies always leave bubbles. (Most places will redo the tint on the entire window if there's even one bubble)

I had my Integra tinted for $150 that included the driver side, passenger, two smaller side windows and the rear. Make sure that you get metallic tint and not any type of film that is just dyed. The dyed tint turns a purple color after prolonged time in the sun. I didn't have any problems with the heating strips on the rear window, but some glass manufacturers put raised dots at the top of the rear window. This causes the film to look a little grey in this area if your car has them because the film does not adhear to the glass all the way. Llumar film is one of the best to use and their gaurantee is great. Hope this helps...

I'm taking my Dodge Ram to have the front 2 windows done. 50% tint...its legal...anyways they charge $40/ window.

Not true.
Fabricate a metal patch and tig weld in place, grind down welds, mule skin and hammer to perfection.
No bondo needed.

I wish I had a Supra! That's actually an Eclipse wing on there so my car has a major identity problem hence the decals.

halik,

My Talon didn't come with a spoiler so I didn't have to worry about patching any holes. I didn't even put it on myself. I brought it to a shop and left it in their hands. It cost some $$ but the piece of mind of knowing that it was done right was well worth it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't tint referenced by the amount of light it lets in? For example, if I said I had 5% tint, this is the same that a limo uses, and only lets in 5% of the light from outside. Legal is typically 35% I believe, and a fair amt. of ppl. will do 20%. If this is the case, isn't 50% barely noticeable?

My car has 35% tint.

On my 91 Mustang, I got 5% on the back 3 windows and 20% on the front 2. The total cost for me was 180 and it looks sweet. You can check it out here . Sorry it's geocities
