I'm going to be purchasing a new LCD 17" monitor in the next few days and i cant quite decide which brand i want.

Which company seems to make the best lcd's? I heard NEC's were okay, or am i mistaken?

I'm hoping to spend around 500-600 dollars on my lcd. Or could i possibly get a really decent 19" for 750?
I'm basically looking for anything that will give me the best picture i can get for that price.

I do alot of gaming at high resolutions, and my vid card is an x800 pro, and amd64 3500 if that helps.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Well, here's my thread on the search for a gaming LCD monitor... just in case you decide your budget can expand a bit. I was looking at one between 19 and 21 inches, but a really nice 17" would definitely catch my interest.

A dell 2001fp costs $1500 in canada (rip off).

I purchased a NEC LCD1765 and it runs great for games. Little ghosting.
I also got the Samsung 172X and it ran very well, though all 3 that I had also had burnt pixels.
Those are both 17" though, but great and cheaper.

Get a Sceptre Komodo IV 19"... best image quality ever IMHO (700:1 contrast ratio) and it can be had for under $500.

You can't go wrong with Samsung as far as monitors are concerned.

Agreed, but I haven't seen a 2001FP deal in a while now.

Dell has them $100 off right now, but that's still makes them $899... I'm waiting for one of those 25% off deals with maybe another stackable coupon. Since it's been a while since they've had a deal, keep your eyes open, hopefully soon.

Only knock on the Sceptre Komodo IV 19" is that it has no DVI, I'm not sure how much that would affect image quality/text clarity.

I don't know how it is for ghosting though.

The BenQ FP951 you make mention to, is certainly a decent screen... but the 25ms isn't the greatest either. However, 16ms or quicker is only really common on 17" and 15" LCD's.

Get a Dell 1800FP or the 2001FP if you come across a deal anytime soon. They are both GREAT for gaming.

Seems like a lot of people are jumping onto a gaming LCD lately. I'm one of them.

I got a 7 year old NEC LCD, and I'm looking for a replacement. Dells look good for the price, except they got a big, ugly dell logo on them

172X looks like the best gaming monitor with its 12ms response time as an average. The problem is that the 172X seems to be getting quite a bit of mixed reviews. Something to do with the 6-bit color...? What's up with that? I don't quite get it yet...but it seems pretty good to me so far from looking at the reviews

Try looking at the Samsung 710T retails around $500 right now (sometimes deals on dell.com I hear). Ill be buying one for my new gaming computer soon. Almost all user reviews I've read were positive and the ones that werent still had nothing really negative to say about it. 12ms response time, 17in. (pretty much same as a 19in CRT), little to no ghosting, great for gaming and pretty much everything else. Check it out.
