Hey everyone,

I finally got fed up with my ASUS A7V133. I figured that it was the cause of all the problems I've been experiencing, so I got an ASUS A7A266. I just have one question.

On my current system, my CPU and heat sink have Artic Silver II thermal compound in between. When I get my new mobo, I plan on relocating them. What's the easiest way to get the CPU and heatsink out? I recall trying to get my AMD k6-2 out from a GlobalWin heatsink with Artic Silver compound, and it was a bit hard. The compound seems to act as a glue between CPU and heatsink.

When I re-install my CPU and heatsink, do I need to get the thermal compound off first or can I just re-apply a new batch and spread it over the old one?

thanks..

Why did you give up with your A7V133? I must have missed some of your previous posts.

Sorry, I can't help you with the thermal compound situation.

Hello..

all sorts of problem i've been experiencing...

1). soundcard problems
>> tried with two different kinds of cards.. no go
2). video capture problem [Studio DC10+]
>> tried using different pci slots.. no go
>> video capture is non-functional at random times
>> thought it was from my Gigabyte AGP GeForce2 MX card .. nope
>> tried using PCI video card .. nope

I figured I can just use the A7V133 and rebuild a new system. The A7A266, hopefully, will solve my system woes.

Wow, you have had more than your share of problems.

I can't suggest anything specific to solve your general problems.

My A7V133 has been flawless (I know you don't need to hear that).

I wish you success with your new mobo.

Can't see why you would need to clear it off, it should still be fine, you may want to even it out and add some if needed.

Remember to take the transfer slowly, those delicate amd cores!

Just undo the clips and keep the processor attached and transport heatsink and cpu togeather or let run for awhile and heat it up alittle so that the compound softens then separate and remove just be careful it didn't get too hot........ouch
