A few may remember the last time a posted a thread about a new puppy, and how that ended (RIP, Brody). Well my wife and I decided to try again. Before we got Brody we considered a Shepherd, but then we fell in love with little Brody. After the unfortunate situation that happened with him we decided to go for a shepherd this time. We wanted something a little different than the standard shepherd, so we found a breeder for American White Shepherds (a white colored German Shepherd).

We picked our little guy out a few weeks ago, and have been waiting for him to be old enough to be flown to us, which will be next week on the 19th. My wife and I are so excited, we just can't wait to see the little guy.

One cool thing is, my parents had been looking for another dog as well, and decided to get one of our dog's littermates. So the two brothers will be able to grow up seeing each other frequently, and have fun running around my parent's property together. They will also travel together, so they should keep each other company on the flight.

Anyway, here are a couple of pictures of the little guy, we are naming him Ronan. The green on his ear is the stuff they put over his ear tattoo he received recently.

Here is a shot of his entire litter running behind their mommy. He is the puppy on the right in the front:

This one is his brother, Kaiden, my parent's dog:

Ronan is a longhair and Kaiden is a shorthair.

We're so excited to get him next week!

Update 3/19

So we got our boy on Monday, two days earlier than expected. The flight details were better that day, so the breeder wanted to get them out earlier. He has been a little handful so far, I'm running on very little sleep. The first night we had a smallish crate for him, but the sides didn't have a lot of vents. Because of his big coat, he got so hot in there I had to let him out. Yesterday I went and bought a big wire crate, and that was much better, he slept almost the entire night. He's really starting to warm up to us and realize we're his new parents. He's been playing like crazy for the past few hours, but finally crashed in the middle of the floor. I haven't had a chance to get pictures of my camera, but my mom sent me this pic we took of both Ronan and his brother Kaiden when we picked them up at the airport.

Pic

Ronan is the one sitting, and Kaiden is the one laying down.

Just read your thread about Brody ...

It takes a lot (emotionally and financially) to go through something like that.

Glad to see you are ready for another try. Post lots of pics! Very good lookin' dogs!

Congrats trmiv, I hope this little guy fares better. That was a really sad ordeal before.

Question: Did the breeder guarantee against congenital hip problems? Pure bred Shepards have been known to have such problems.

Thought about it of course ... but not yet ...

I was just reading about distemper and it says:

One-dog households
If a dog has died from CDV infection, pet owners should wait about one month before introducing a new puppy or dog into the home. Contaminated objects and living areas should be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected with a 1:30 bleach-water solution.

It also talks about disease transmission and such. I'm assuming your other baby is still ok.

Yes he is guaranteed. Also, every dog on his pedigree was OFA certified for hips

Yea it will be over a month since Brody died. Our other dog is fine. We threw out some of Brody's toys, and other's that belonged to our current dog were washed with bleach (I've never seen her teddy bear so white!). Also, Ronan will have two full rounds of vaccines before he arrives.

Good luck!! Super cute. Sounds like a reputable breeder. Make sure to get him checked out by your regular vet.

 I would have hated to see posts 2-3 years down the road about hip dysplasia with Ronan.

Our family had a 120-pound white (not albino) German Shepherd that lived to be 12. We named him Ajax, after the Greek hero, not the bleach . He was the smartest dog my parents have ever had, was very loyal, and played frisbee like a pro. That picture of the puppies running after their mom really brought back some memories....I wish you and your pup the best!
