Getting a new TV, help me choose between 2 options

I finally decided I need to upgrade my 40 inch LCD and have decided on getting a 55 inch model.

Selection where I live is quite poor and have narrowed my choice down to 2 models:

1. LG 55LA6200
2. SONY KDL-55HX850

The LG seems to be a 2013 model and costs around $1500 while the Sony seems to be a leftover 2012 model and is heavily discounted to around $1650.

Please don´t quote prices from US retail or online, because I am in Central America and electronics are just a lot more expensive here.

So which one would you guys choose?

I will mostly be watching HD rips of TV Shows via an HTPC running XBMC.

Personally I would get the Sony, but I will always take last years best over this years midrange.

I had a Sony KDL-55NX720 that died on me about a year and a month into owning it. The panel went out, it was not easily fixable according to TV repair company. Luckily I paid with American Express which doubled my one year warranty. I was refunded my entire amount paid.

So anyways, the point of my story...I found someone on craig's list to pick it up for $60 and that person said they had collected quite a few similar sony's which had gone dead for the same reason. Needless to say, I wont buy a Sony TV again.

I was also affected by the samsung capacitor issue about 5 years ago. The class action lawsuit ensured that I got that repaired for free though, at least. The Samsung is still working great, and I think my next TV will be either a Samsung or Panasonic.

Edit: I suppose this is anecdotal evidence, but I still figured I should share my story. Maybe the point of my story is...make sure your warranty is up to par.

Kind of an odd thought process... to side with the company that required a class action lawsuit to get things fixed
