Question for Wii U owners. Does it let you output HDMI video and analogue RCA audio at the same time?

Edit- Yes you can

EDIT

Apparently it does now per here

http://thewiiu.com/topic/19062-wii-u-audio-over-rca-video-over-hdmi/

Yup! There was an update not too long ago that allowed this... It's a little confusing to do, but it's pretty simple once you figure it out. Just go to your Wii U's system settings, go over to the TV settings, then tap on "TV Audio-Output Type". Then, if you've got the latest firmware update, there should be a little button in the upper-right corner of the screen that says "Output-Cable Setting". Tap on that, and then just choose "Non-HDMI" or "Both", depending on what you want. Nintendo could certainly make it a little more clear as to how to do this, but whatever. Hope this helped!

I've been busting out the guitar a lot more recently.

FYI to everyone, Target is running a b2g1 sale on games, and the mario bundle is $275.

Up here in Canada, Target also has a 50% off sale on "over 100 video games and accessories". They didn't say which but New Super Mario Bros. U is pictured in the ad. Have to go up there tomorrow morning anyway so I'll poke around.

Nintendo needs to mix things up on the Virtual Console. Make all first party games available instead of a slow trickle, lower the price to about $1 per game, and make it a cross buy between the Wii, Wii U, and 3DS.

I think it's bizarre that there are no SNES titles available on the 3DS.

I was recently in the Post Office due to moving and saw that they have a 10% off best buy movers coupon, it would be pretty sweet to get them to match the target price and then use that. Really it would bring it down to what the online sales are for anyways though.

I have bought the Wii U finally! The deals were good and it was time to buy it. I got the Mario and Luigi bundle. Then got some games. I'm downloading Zelda: The Wind Waker HD right now.

After spending some time with the system, I have to say that I'm very impressed with the graphics, firstly. They pop out at you, literally. I started off playing the Mario U game, which is similar to the Mario of the 90s but with a modern take - much better graphics, enhanced soundtrack, different challenges and a lot more. I don't know whether its me, the gamepad controller or the game but I've been getting beat quite bit . I've already experience "Game Over" a few times.

When I first opened up the Wii U, it took a few minutes to find out what was what and how everything worked. One thing became clear quickly was that the gamepad is the main driver of the system. You control everything from it and it sends that information to the TV. In many cases, you can simultaneously see whats happening on the gamepad (such as browsing through menus) on the TV. It's a different take. I would say that it works just fine. Sometimes it can take a bit longer but nothing is perfect. All in all, it is fine.

One of the things I was wondering about was the Netflix and general video streaming experience on the Wii U. So far, it has been decent. The Netflix software, which is preinstalled along with many other media software, seems to be designed for the Wii U. Things generally work well. There is a search button where you can type in what you're looking for. I don't search for what I want to watch on the Wii U since it is much easier and better to do that on the computer. All I do is type in what I want to watch - so search on the computer and watch on the Wii U on the TV.

I was a bit concerned that the videos might not play in HD many times. This hasn't occurred much - sometimes the videos might get a bit blurry but that isn't the norm. The display quality seems to be excellent most of the time. However, the Netflix software has been slightly glitchy for me sometimes. I would get an error message that the video cannot be played. After doing a bit of a search, I found out that I have to uninstall the Netflix software and then reinstall it. I've done this a few times. It has been working well for the past few days though.

As you guys can see, I haven't played too many games yet. Some Mario U and some Mario Kart. Interestingly, I've played Mario U a bit more than Mario U. I have to say that Mario Kart 8 has excellent graphics in every way. Attention to detail, colors, special effects, water, crowds, karts - all top notch. The maps vary widely and have a huge number of differentiations between them. The graphics seem to be one of the best attributes of the game. Not sure why but Mario Kart doesn't feel as "sharp" as previous version. It doesn't seem to have that special feeling that Mario Kart on the Nintendo 64 had. Maybe its me but I don't seem as impressed by it. Maybe its because I've only played the 100cc setting. Maybe its because the racers are not properly differentiated like they were in the past. This time, the karts vary but the drivers' all appear to have the same qualities - someone please correct me if I'm wrong. Overall, its a decent game but seems to be missing something from the Mario Karts of the past - cannot pinpoint it exactly. Maybe its a combination of things.

I should mention that the music is excellent in the few games that I've played. Probably some of the best video game music around. Attention to detail in the limited games I've played is top notch.

I am glad to have bought the Wii U. It's a great system for both gaming and streaming content. I even browsed the web a bit and it worked well. Now I just have to play some more of the games I have!

That is going to be almost exclusively based on your source material, broadband connection and router. The Wii U has a dual band MIMO wireless chip. It is capable of handling pretty much everything you can stream.

We dropped our Netflix account but still watch Amazon Prime and Youtube (especially concerts) regularly. Ever since I upgraded to an ASUS dual band N router, our streaming on the Wii U has been nearly flawless, and usually at the highest resolution available.

My biggest gripe with the Wii U is probably the lack of Ethernet. I've had it refuse to connect over Wi-Fi before. I've heard tales of people who have their Wii U very close to their router (same room, no obstructions), and they still cannot connect. I mention that because the reliance on potentially spotty Wi-Fi would probably make me a bit wary of relying on it.

Honestly, I'd even be happy with paying a little extra ($15-20) for a USB Ethernet adapter for it. There's an 8-port switch quite literally sitting directly next to my Wii U!

I heard the one they made for the Wii works on the Wii U too, I got mine for $4.

Sounds good - what was the deal that you couldn't pass up?

Got the Wii U Super Mario Bros. U package for $274.99 and then got the Buy 2 Games and Get 1 Free deal. I price matched the games on Amazon and the price was lowered. Plus, there is Zelda: The Wind Waker free when you purchase Mario Kart 8. All in all, good deals. Thanks.

I have a good N router (not dual band) along with a good internet connection. There are times when speeds are lower or the latency is higher. For the most part the videos play on HD on the Wii U. I haven't tried Amazon Prime yet on the Wii U but Youtube plays fine. Maybe it has something to do with the Netflix application on the Wii U - but again, for the most part, the videos play fine. Thanks.

The driver of the kart as well as wheels vehicle type etc all have differences. Here is a comparison chart for the drivers

http://www.realsg.com/2014/06/guide-mario-kart-8-driver-base-stats.html

Ah, great

In the previous Mario Karts, the character classes were listed so you knew what characters were better in one category. In Mario Kart 8, this isn't listed (or I couldn't find it). Though the karts, tires and the gliders have different attributes that are listed.

Thank you.

The different characters are factored in when you press the [+] button to check the stats of the kart and mods. If you select a setup with one character, go back, then do it with another, the stats will be different. Sadly, they don't give you an indication of the character's stats until you have selected that character.

The other sad thing is no map on the screen (in game), just on the gamepad - and no TIMES except in time trial! Who doesn't display times in the actual cup races?
