PS4 and XB1 both have apps that offer second screen experience through tablet and phones. On AC4 you can view the map and set waypoints without pausing the game. It makes it much more enjoyable since most of your game is navigating on the water. Rumble functionality can be used in many ways to alert the player. It's become something of a standard to have.

Wii U will usually be the worst platform to play multiplats for; ps4 and xbone will likely be better. I don't see how anyone could argue differently. However, PC is better than the xbone and ps4 as well...

That is why I think the Wii U makes a good 'additional' console. I got it purely for first party games. I doubt I'll get anything not exclusive to the Wii U.

Right now I use my PC for the majority of gaming and my Wii U and PS3 for the excellent exclusive games they have. I also have a Wii and 360 but they are practically untouched.

I'll pick up a PS4 if it gets some exclusives worth caring about. All it would take is Demon's Souls 2.

We'll eventually have one of our own for Pikmin 3 and Earthbound at the least. It's been awhile since I've played a good Mario game (Galaxy for me), and 3D world looks like it will fit the bill.

Cue in other first party games and Nintendo has just been having a rough time getting out of the gate.

And they are all better on another platform. That's the main problem.

Rayman Legends is the ONLY one out of the gaming platforms that uses 5 players and the use of the Wii U gamepad. There could be other exceptions too.

As someone who owns a good gaming PC, as well as all current consoles (except the Xbox One), I've found that the Wii U's hardware costs are expensive, and the software library is both tiny, and expensive.

I would not recommend the Wii U as a primary console for obvious reasons, but also object to it as a "2nd console" choice, based on the size of the library compared to hardware costs. It's not a very good value.

eShop prices are insulting with stuff like New Super Mario, and Pikmin listed for 60 dollars, and 3rd party game prices are well over what you'd see on PC and competing consoles.

Accessory costs add up fast too. Consider that some games require Wii Motes, some might need a Nunchuck, some might be best played with a Wii U Pro controller... Wii games are not compatible with the Wii U Pro controller, so you need a Wii Mote + a classic controller for some of them.

I think in the long run, a Wii U is going to have a higher cost vs alternatives (such as the PS4), while offering you a lot less content. I have no reason to "hate on Nintendo" either, since I own a 3DS XL, Wii, and a Wii U here.

On the other hand, if you like Nintendo exclusives, and don't have a 3DS yet.... The 2DS or 3DS is definately worth picking up. First party Nintendo exclusives like Fire Emblem Awakening, Zelda A Link Between Worlds, and Pokemon Y, are all excellent on the 3DS/2DS, and it's totally worth your money to get one.

I play a bit of everything. The PC is the best option for certain types of games, such as first person shooters, or MOBAS, and you can get a lot of games for little cost, making it a great platform, arguably the best platform. Yet, you miss out of a LOT of stuff if you don't own consoles as well.

In the last year, I've played probably the most exclusives on the PS3. Tales of Xillia, Dragon's Dogma, Valkyria Chronicles (I was late to trying this one), The Last of Us, God of War Ascension, and Dragon’s Crown, are a few examples of some of the good games I would have missed this last year without the PS3. The backlog of good exclusive PS3 games I haven't tried yet, is still pretty huge. Once the PS4 starts hitting stride, it's going to have a lot of exclusive content as well. Basically, I felt pretty confident in Sony's ability to secure great exclusive content, after my experience with the PS3, so I got the PS4 a bit early. There was no rush, I figured it was highly likely I'd buy one before the first price drop, so might as well just do it sooner, so I can have fun with the system earlier.

I've been using it a lot actually, but not as much for gaming (the PS3 is getting the most use for gaming still, atm). The PS4 and Xbox One are great for media streaming and the like.... For example, I might pop open the browser on my PS4, go to YoutubeTV, and pick out some songs with my Nexus 7, and listen to them through my DS4+Headphones. The Wii U's gamepad is great in Apps like Netflix, but it's hardware is a lot less responsive, making the PS4 my best option there.
- Tried a PC in the living room, and didn't care for it much. We'll see how well SteamOS does though, I'm interested in checking it out.

As somebody who also has a gaming PC...

Speak for yourself. I'll buy a ps4 for Infamous alone, which is something you'll never get to touch with your current attitude.

I never was a big fan of infamous. Played the first one but this new one looks awesome. I will definately get it for ps4. I also have a good gaming pc but that doesn't mean games like last of us, uncharted, many others will come to the pc.

Cause you can't play killer instinct, have fewer cod players (there are people who like cod), can't play infamous, dont get madden, nba2k14 on pc is a port from ps3 and 360 and the ps4 and xb1 versions get an enhanced graphics engine, you will never get halo, forza, god of war, any naughty dog titles, dead rising 3, killzone (its good online), ryse, knack, and other console exclusive titles like destiny.

Reasons enough for me.

I have a ps4 and x1, and a beast of a gaming machine. Right now there is no reason to own a ps4 and x1 for the normal gamer, i think those of us who own it can say that honestly. I don't remember the last console launch that had a kliler launch title ... nintendo 64?

Exclusives are what makes a console, and if you're going to emulate or basically be a PC - my PC will crush you. Maybe it doesn't cost the same, but the game is the same and the PC is higher res, higher FPS, and better controls.

That is Nintendo's upper hand if they have any.

PC + Wii U definitely seems to get more really good game coverage than any other combination short of having every single system.

I think a lot of people underestimate the value of the Wii U's virtual console and backwards compatibility advantage as well.

The ability to gather a bunch of your buddies on the couch with a beer and play CoD and then switch to Super Mario Bros. from the NES and then to Tekken Tag Tournament 2 and then Mario Kart SNES etc.. is just really really fun times.

Nope I own both and you are just wrong. There is plenty of reason someone may want a ps4 or xb1. Most of the games are better with a controller and what do you use on your pc? That's right a console controller. The on or off nature of keyboard controls is terrible for most games. The game is not always the same either. How many crap ports have there been for pc games that make the game unplayable due to crashing or poor performance? Not to mention that some games on pc are ports from the 360 and ps3 while the engine is redesigned for the xb1 and ps4 like nba2k14.

Can do that on my pc with emulators and enhance the graphics with filters too. Also the wiiu introduces massive input lag on many old titles. Playing punch out is near impossible at some points because of it.

Tell me how I'm wrong. There is exactly, 0 reasons to own an X1 and PS4 right now. $15 titles and upgraded visuals on the same games available on other consoles/PC.

Mass Effect 4 is a reason to own a console. Zelda is a reason to own a console. Mario is a reason to own a console. Kinect controlling your cable TV, is not.

When is the killer title coming out for X1 or PS4? For me, it will be the end of 2014. ME4 or FF15. And even then, non exclusives.

Too bad. Cheapassgamer had a thread going where people were price matching a $200 zelda wii U ad at best buy and target.

You are wrong because there are massive threads right on this forum that even you have participated in with numerous people who are very happy with their purchase. You even admit to owning at least one of them so what is your excuse?

You make absolutely no sense. I named some games that are out RIGHT NOW that people want and are playing.

I would have to agree, and I also thought the same thing with the PS3/360 for the first few years. Thus why I just never got them, by the time they had any must have games I had moved back to primarily PC gaming. But then...I didn't get a PSX until FF7 came out. It's just a difference of game interests. A few people seem like the types who just buy up everything that comes out, which is fine, but doesn't mean it's for everyone.

This is similar to my comment about games on the 3ds where everyone tried to convince me there were tons of great games on it. There just isn't. Just because a handful of people buy every crap game that comes out doesn't mean everyone does. Some people actually have different tastes.

I'm an early adopter cmdrdredd, I don't think I'm the only one. There are no games out on X1 or PS4 worth owning those consoles for. I buy everything at launch regardless, I don't wait because I have enough money to throw around. if I didn't, I would probably wait - but I make it a priority because I'm into new technology.

My original point was there is no reason for a "normal" gamer to own a PS4 or X1 right now.
