You should be able to find it cheaper than that. You can usually find some deal that gets it to around $250 (brand new) that may be a straight-up (temporary) price drop or through things like a gift card (Target does that a lot). As for expanding upon the memory, you can attach USB storage (just like with the XBOX One) -- Nintendo Storage FAQ.

A couple things you may also want to consider are...

  • Larger Gamepad Battery - The Gamepad's battery is a bit small at around 1500mAH where the larger one is around 2500mAH. Note that Nintendo does not sell these in the United States, which means that you'll have to buy one from an importer like PlayAsia to which I've linked. I did see an $18 battery charger on Amazon, which acts like a smartphone charging case where it charges your Gamepad when it gets low. Personally, I'd prefer a larger battery, but the charger is 1/2 the price (including the hefty shipping from PlayAsia).
  • USB Ethernet Adapter - Personally, I've had some rather flaky performance with the Wi-Fi on my Wii U, and what made it worse was that it quite literally sits right next to a switch, but Nintendo didn't put an Ethernet port on it. However, you can buy one of these adapters, and hook them up. Note, you do need a specific adapter as not all chipsets are supported. The one that I linked is the one that I own. It's a little bulky, but it works well.

I've got more than 64 extra GB laying around. One 32 and two 16 with many more assorted ones. How many USB ports does it have? The battery sounds nice but I've only got wifi in my house.

Thanks!

I think the Mario Kart free game deal is still going on. If so, you can get Wind Waker for free by purchasing Mario Kart 8.

That ended back in July, I think. I'm pretty sure that you had to get the game code entered by the end of July, you had to pick a game by the end of August, and you had to claim the game code by the end of September. It was something like that, but it's definitely long gone.

Is the 32GB WiiU (with the two super bros games) worth the ~$300 or should I wait? Is there any way to expand the storage on it?

Wal-Mart gives you a $25 gift card with a 32-GB console bundle this week (meaning it ends 10/11). You can get the 2 Bros. games, you can get 3D World and Nintendo Land or you can get MK8 and Nintendo Land. All 3 bundles are the same price. You can also get the 8-GB, white bundle with Trap Team but that sucks.

I'd definitely vote for the MK8 bundle, by far the best game on the console right now.

By the way, all we play on my console is MK8. We beat NSMBU really quickly with the Boost Mode crap, though we didn't get all the big coins and beat the bonus world. We barely did any SLU. I had SM3DW and DKCTR but we played them maybe 5 times combined, so I traded them in to Wal-Mart for more than I spent on them. I also got Wind Waker HD as my free game with MK8 but I've played maybe half an hour or an hour on it (just to the part where you're about to leave the island, I think). I just am not big on the franchise, and it starts REALLY slowly, so I struggle to play it.

As for the future, SSB or bust. I might pick up Bayonetta 2 because it comes with the highly regarded first game (which I've never played). I MIGHT get Toad Treasure Tracker (out 12/5/14) because it's only going to be $40, rather than $60. Next year, we get MP10 and Yoshi's Wooly World, which will be a great pair of additions to the lineup of games.

Lastly, on a long-term basis, I'm begging for a console Fire Emblem to come back. GameStop wants $65 for Path of Radiance from mid-2008, and eBay is not much better ($45 for game only), and I can't bring myself to pay $15+ more for a game than it cost at launch so long ago.

How many USB ports does it have?

I took a look, and it has 2 on the back and 2 on the front.

The battery sounds nice but I've only got wifi in my house.

I finally decided to order one of the batteries when I saw that it was only $30. I've usually seen it between $32-35, so any discount helps with the hefty shipping. I'll let you know if I run into any issues.

I just picked up the Wii U a few weeks back... really liking MK8 and I'm a fan of the SM3DW.

Yup, 2 USB ports in the front and 2 in the back.

Might be more than what's needed for most users right now, but those "extra" USB ports are going to come in handy soon. The Gamecube controller adapter uses 2 of em'.

Please, no. Don't do this to me. I JUST got to Shadow of Mordor and NBA 2K15 is till in its plastic wrap. I've gotta get through those before Halo in December, and I'll probably be looking at The Crew and Sunset Overdrive at Christmas or something. I have to get SSB on the Wii U when it launches. I can't take a phenomenal release for another 6 months or so, considering the early-2015 release of Dying Light as well.

This is where new consoles can get crazy. The last generation of consoles were getting really stale with content, but now the new toys are bringing us a LOT to do, and it's overwhelming.

If it helps your choice any, I've heard some negative rumblings about Sunset Overdrive. Apparently, it's just a lot of style over substance. They would tell people playing the game to keep using the rails and stuff yet they would easily rack up more points just staying on the ground and killing stuff. The only thing these people previewing haven't really seen is the whole story, which could be a redeeming quality, but I'm not too sure.

I originally had it pre-ordered, but I cancelled it last month.

I'm not really worried about that. I mean, I guess it depends on what that means, because I don't see why fighting on the ground would hurt the game. Unless on-rails shooting makes the game impossibly hard, I wouldn't worry. I'd just have fun with the mayhem.

However, what you're saying's going to have me thinking more about the game and trying to read up on it more before release. As I've said, I've got enough games on my wishlist to miss this one, if it disappointed.

Meanwhile, on-topic: 38 days to Super Smash Bros. If you guys haven't heard, the GameCubs controller will ONLY work on SSB. Personally, that has me wanting to skip the bundle now, because I'd rather go with a Pro controller that will work on other games, but that's me. Just thought I'd mention it, in case someone else is affected by it.

I bought Shadows of mordor and NBA2k15 last night. I haven't played 2K in a while, it's fun, but I'm not sure if I'll get into the career. I sort of forgot I didn't think you could really do an NBA game well on a video game system (dunno, other than NBA jam? lol).

Shadows of Mordor has potential.

Mordor is great, with my only complaint being that Captain replacements take too long (I usually have 4-6 dead on the Nemesis screen at a time).

I got NBA as well, but at the same time, it's still in the plastic. I last got an NBA 2K game when I got the MLB/NBA combo for the 2K12 titles, but I only got that because I wanted baseball, and the combo with basketball was $10 more. I barely touched it, so now I'm debating taking basketball back, and just playing Mordor for now.

I killed 2 captains I think, but I'm trying to get intel and I'm forgetting the button strokes to do that. That's my only minor negative, I sort of like games like Limbo that have basically one button lolol

Came in the mail today. Other than the sticker on the bottom, you'd never know it was a refurb. It's pretty cool so far. Haven't had a chance to crack open Nintendoland yet though.

IDK if the GamePad works at all. In trying to play Sonic Colors last week, I couldn't use the GamePad--I had to use a WiiMotion Plus. I think it was the same story for Mario Party 8.

Wii games have to use wii controllers because you have to go into "Wii Mode." These new downloadable games are for the Wii U (and aren't played in wii mode) and have Wii U controller support.
