Wii games have to use wii controllers because you have to go into "Wii Mode." These new downloadable games are for the Wii U (and aren't played in wii mode) and have Wii U controller support.

I read that they need the wiimote and nunchuck. If that is the case, I will pass on every Wii game that comes out.

I looked around and it looks like games that could be played with the classic controller (the twin stick controller) can be played with the gamepad. Games that could only be played with the wiimote and nunchuck still require them. It looks like this is the case for Galaxy 2

SMG2 is on the eShop now. I am going to pass on this due to the controller requirement. Oh well.

Anything that requires the old wii motes to play I am out for.
Stinks about SMG2, I loved SMG1.

Never played the Prime Series. Can that be played on the game pad? More importantly can it be played on the game pad alone without a TV.

Edit: Nevermind it looks like it is a Wiimote only game too. Pass....

I've got 4 WiiMotion Plus controllers (Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, and White, as well as 1 black Pro controller), so that's not a problem. However, I have no nunchuck, and I'm not really interested in spending the money to make these old games work with it. Does SMG2 REQUIRE a nunchuck? I ask because I played Sonic with just the controller, no nunchuck, it's just D-pad walking's a bit awkward in the 3-D parts.

I wish they could reprogram the game for HD (1080p) and wii-u pro controller.

I'll stick to complaining, "where's my Fire Emblem?"

Oh, and I still don't get the point of the Amiibos, but I'll be picking up a Charizard anyway.

I heard the Amiibos quality is high, but I suspect it is a childish thing. Isn't it similar to that hotswapping game children play, skylanders?

I can't wait for Star Fox or Zelda, Zelda is going to push consoles like no other. When Miyamoto perishes, Nintendo will go down with him.

They're not quite the same thing as the Skylanders and Infinity figures for a few reasons:

1. Amiibos are made to be compatible with multiple games. however, it's now been made to sound as if an Amiibo can only support one game's data at once, as I think they said using one in Mario Party 10 will mean its data from Smash would be wiped.
2. Amiibos aren't playable characters in anything I've seen so far (they give you character costumes in Mario Kart 8 and act as A.I.-controlled support or enemy characters in Smash).

I just don't find them to be as cool as their competition, even though I care nothing for the Skylanders and Infinity games (Infinity 2.0 might have interested me if it wasn't turned into Marvel garbage). They're not playable characters, and the degree to which other games will use them (along with which ones) is still unknown, so I'm just not sure how much I care. They'll hopefully still have some Ike ones out when this wave launches, because I'd like to see Best buy put a B2G1 with the launch, and then I could pick up Ike, Charizard, and Pikachu.

So I was slightly wrong, I believe the eShop games (SMG2, etc) are not running in Wii emulator mode, they are running in 1080p. The textures haven't been upgraded, but the game looks "sharp" from reviews. The slight problem is the wiimote/nunchuck requrement.

I guess they assume most Wii U owners already have a Wiimote and nunchuck. It's really stupid that Nintendo sells them separately. Why would you want just the remote and not the analogue stick? Be nice if they bundled them with the console too.

This was the first time a game I wanted to play required the 'chuck. I always thought it was a convenience accessory, and I'm not buying one to play old games.

I mean I have a chuck and mote, but I've been using the gamepad/pro controllers for a while now. Nintendo has way too many controllers...

They should have spent more money and redone galaxy one and 2, made it HD and converted the controller scheme, then sold it for $50 retail

That would have required re-doing both, then selling them as a pair for $50. I couldn't buy a single-game remake (even if I hadn't played it yet) for more than about $25, I'd say. They really do need a way of getting the GamePad and Pro controller compatible with the Wii games though. I don't know why it would be so difficult.

I'd buy it. Twilight Princess would be another great candidate. It's already coded for conventional controls thanks to the GameCube version. The Wii U does not upscale and that game does not look as good as it could, even on my CRT HDTV.

Nintendo is slowly realizing that HD remasters can be lucrative.

With any luck, they'll extend the life of Mario Kart 8 for a couple more years, offering us more and more DLC packs for $12 per-pair. I'll gladly pay $6/pack when you get 3 drivers, 8 tracks, and a few vehicles. I mean, given the depth of their character well and the number of Mario Kart iterations they can re-release tracks from, I don't see how Nintendo can't milk that. In fact, they should do something similar with Smash, offering up DLCs that add omitted fighters and levels from past games.

The only downside to such endeavors is that they topped out at 32 GB of storage with their consoles. They'll need to push it to--GASP--64, or even 128, GB. I guess that's what the external drive support is for, but we could sure stand to see them release a console with more storage.

why would anyone NOT play a game they WANT to play..because they don't want to spend $10 for a proper controller the game was designed for ?

I wonder when they are going to announce that Zelda is coming this year or getting pushed back? If it is indeed coming this year, any smart company would confirm it, makes people want to buy your console sooner than later which to me means that it's getting pushed back until 2016. I know it's just the start of 2015 but I want to know whether to buy an Xbone or WiiU this year.

I don't really want to play it that badly. Having to buy it, then buy another accessory, it makes it not worth it. That's like asking why we don't just say all games are $60, but if you actually WANT the game, it's $70.

So you'd pay $60 for a game you don't want to play ? But not $70.
