Getting an error when trying to install Zune software

Finally got my 80gb black zune today. I went and downloaded the software that was needed in order to connect my computer to the Zune. As I got to install the software I get an error that reads:

System Updates Required
Zune software installation cant continue until you've installed one or more required updates.
Windows Update must be updated to run this program.

I try to click on the link, but it just redirects me to the Zune.net site.

I havent had Windows Update on for years, but I do have SP2 and all the other MAJOR updates.

Anybody know how to fix this problem?

Oh and btw I'm running XP Pro SP2

says on the zune support page that you need these required updates:

? The .NET Framework 2.0
? Microsoft Error Reporting
? XMLLite
? Windows Format SDK

do you hvae those?

Thanks for your help chris, I got it to work after I found a site that posted all the security updates that Windows Updates has had for the past 2 years. Downloaded all of them, installed 'em, and restarted. Worked perfectly after that.

glad you got it working. Enjoy your zune! I've been wanting to upgrade to an 80 GB from my 30 GB sometime soon.

Good luck with the software. I've had nothing but trouble with it since they release the new version. Hopefully they'll release a patch soon.

Yeah... the new version of the software made a mess of my music library and added a bunch of duplicate songs on my Zune. I really hope that they fix that soon!

I just stopped syncing my Zune. I don't get new music to often anyway. The hardware works great but the new software needs a bit of work. I do like the new interface though.

I've not had any syncing or library problems with the new software. What's irritated me is that I have to maintain my zune library/mp3 folders separate from my WMAlossless folder/files since it doesn't transcode audio on-the-fly during sync. One folder for my old old mp3 rips for which the CDs have been lost or destroyed. Another for my WMAlossless rips, and a third for their transcoded mp3s. Easily accomplished (complete with tags, filenames and folder structure) via dbpoweramp reference.

Once that was all done and I set Zune software to watch just the mp3 folders for its library, it's all easy and automatic from there. Just asinine that I had to do that in the first place....as well as being a waste of space.

The Zune is a good player, particularly if you use it for video. And there is a lot of promise with the wireless connectivity.

That being said, I gave away my 30 gig Zune and bought an 80 gig ipod. I like the interface/controls much better, and I LOVE the much wider selection of accessories.

Hello,

Even i am getting the error - "System Updates Required"

I am using XP SP2.

Now, i dont want to install all updates and thing, so please tellme what updates in particular does zune software require to start?

Also, is bypassing update and installing the software is recommended?
