getting dsl/nic vs usb2

Getting Verizon dsl end of july. The modem they are sending me can be connected via nic or usb2. Which would be better or more flexible in the long run? Would the choice effect connection sharing if I were to set that up in the future. Thanks for your input.

I would say the NIC is a better choice. You get the ability to connect through essentially any router, including linux based ones, with much more support than usb. On the other hand, you might have slightly simpler setup with usb, but I've never actually used usb dsl modems. As for speed, both connections can more than handle it.

USB also has higher overhead.

NIC is the way to go if you are considering trying Linux... finding Linux drivers for your usb modem may be difficult.

Go with the ethernet card version. I've set up the old usb 1.1 dsl for a friend, when he later wanted a home lan, it was too much trouble (multihomed, siblings turning off his rig accidentally, etc..)

NIC is much more flexible
in the future, you can add a router or hub to share the DSL, add a hardware firewall, add/switch to wireless...
